I turned up and checked in through the restaurant. No staff wearing any masks or evidence of any covid protocols.
Saw my room - no window, save a roof skylight with a barely fitting blind but with nice water stain marks and plaster coming off the widow apperture. An awful skinny double matress that would hurt after half an hour - but curiously, just single single quilt, no toilet roll, no mugs. It did have kettle. Had a recently fitted shower but paint and grouting still on the floor and generally looking like it was a day or two from being finished.
A member of staff just walked into my room without knocking, no need - the door didn't lock itself! Whilst I was actually on a business call the man continued to randomly show me the contents of the wardrobe, and then engage me in conversation whilst I was still on the phone. In fairness, another man came back with a toilet roll, but not until the first man had inspected the toilet to check I really didn't have any.
The walls were paper thin and I could easily hear the staff talking in the empty restaurant through the wall. Family members do live on site, no problem with that but calling to each other from outside my door was an issue.
I couldn't see any fire extinguishers or fire exits and the external door was very flimsy and didn't shut properly. I didn't feel the doors offered any security or warmth, or the whole building come to that. The proper is right on the A10 so traffic noise is loud.
After 10 mins I decided this was possibly the worst place I'd nearly stayed in - in the UK. So I booked a Travel Lodge for just £15 more, loaded the car, handed the keys in and went to a safe, quiet, warm place with a decent bathroom and proper bed bed.
It is if the proprietors have tried to make as many rooms as they can on the plot. Good idea but the whole set up was well below par. However, it was very 'Faulty Towers' so 10/10 for the comedy value but 1/10 as a place to stay. On the plus side, to it's credit, the room was clean. Quite why it had a step ladder propped up in it, I'm still working that one. It does have loads of parking and lots of vehicles in it but I was apparently the only guest..... I guess calling it the 'Slap Up' and £27 a night or therabouts says it all. I can only assume the colleague that booked it on my behalf did as a bet or a practical joke.
Thanks guys working at the place for making me smile, and for innocently and comedically bumbling about and calling it service... and for a place I won't forget but for all the wrong reasons. Needless to say I didn't eat there!
Will never return - couldn't even contemplate staying the...
Read moreIt's not possible to leave no star reviews ... I have never left a negative pubic review before in my life. Where I have had complaints I usually manage to resolve them directly and privately with the business. However, I booked this place somewhat against my better judgement, and would like to advise others against making the same mistake.||||I checked in for my booking quite late at night; I had informed the hotel that I would be arriving late. It was immediately obvious to me that the place was uninhabitable. As it was close to midnight and the location was quite remote I had no choice but to stay until this morning.||||I attach photos here along with a list of reasons why the place was uninhabitable; principally being that it was filthy, unsafe and not secure. As a sole female traveller, I felt particularly unsafe.||||The door, which led immediately to the outside, was loose and could be opened from outside by shaking. It took the host a few tries to manage to shut it.||The gap in the door & door jamb meant that noise from the heavy traffic outside fed directly into the room all night.||The levels of noise (shouting, arguing) directly outside my room by neighbouring room and the hosts (it was not clear at all who the guests were, who lived there and who worked there) continued well until 1am.||I was not given a key to the room; the host opened the door by putting his arm in through the window.||The latch on the window was broken and could not be closed at all.||The sink, toilet and shower had not been cleaned; there was visible dirt, debris and stains in all three.||The curtains had heavy brown soiling on them.||The bed had bedbugs.||There was no hot water.||The sink was blocked and immediately filled up with water making any kind of washing impossible. I wasn’t brave enough to touch the shower.||The water from the taps was cloudy and dirty.||All of the furniture was stained and dirty.||The cabinet in the bathroom was hanging onto the wall by only one bracket and fell off the wall.||The bin had not been emptied and was full of soiled toilet paper from the previous occupant.||There was other types of insect nests on the walls.||||The things advertised - reception intercom, daily housekeeping, AC, tea/coffee maker - were simply not there.||||Thankfully the platform I had booked through gave me a full refund.||||Avoid...
Read moreStaff are very nice, we knew we were staying at a poorly reviewed hotel but as all other hotels were so much more expensive we took the hit.
I'm glad we knew what we were getting ourselves into after reading the reviews otherwise I would have been extremely upset.
Positives: warm tap water, comfortable bed, there was a wardrobe, working TV, desk fan if it was too hot and smelt of amazing curry food, private en suite, potentially clean bedding but due to quality of the room I can't be 100%.
Negatives: no reception or receptionist so no formal checking in or checking out, bin still had previous guest's rubbish in it, one hand towel for two guests, kettle had ants in, no tea/coffee/mugs in the room, bedding bottom sheet had small rips, floor hadn't been cleaned as it was dusty and had talcum powder on it, the duvet inside the duvet cover was yellow and could have done with a good deep clean, toilet still had a sticker from b and q on it, shower was dirty with the door covered in scum and so was the sink, shower base front panel was missing, light switch missing a screw and moved, no soap for washing hands.
Continental Breakfast consists of a few boxes of general cereals and I believe toast but we didn't stay for breakfast. There was no official breakfast sitting area, it's more of a free for all as if you were staying at someone's house.
No reception to check in, we called prior to our check in as traffic had held up our journey. When we arrived we had the to call the hotel number as we couldn't figure out the entrance. FYI the entrance is at the back and the door leads straight into the kitchen/breakfast area.
It's good for a night if you have no where else to go, I would have paid £20 at a push. We joked about the potential of picking up bed bugs and moved from the bedroom to the ensuite shuffling on a towel as everytime we walked we had bits sticking to our feet.
It wasn't worth the money, but the bed was EXTREMELY comfortable.
It's an informal place to stay and if I was by myself I wouldn't have walked in as I would have felt unsafe. There is a sense of safety behind check in procedures and basic hygiene, without this I felt uneasy.
A hostel would probably have had a higher level of hygiene and checking...
