We have stayed here several times previously as we visit family close by. It was always an 'ok' hotel, a bed and shower then we were mostly out and about so it's never been an issue. However this trip is a very different story. We paid c£100 for 2 nights so I guess you get what you pay for!! We arrived late at 9pm, the staff are, as before, welcoming and efficient. When we reached our room we were very tired but not as tired as the room itself. It's as if it's deteriorated faster than the now empty Brewers Fayre pub next door, which still doesn't have a buyer. The hotel is apparently going through a renovation according to the notices in the lifts but the only sign so far is lots of banging at 815am from the floor below. Everything else looks and smells like a dirty 1 star hostel. The room is very smelly and I'm not sure if someone (or many people) before us have been smoking in the room, or if it's the carpets, curtains or beds that smell. There are only a few sockets that can be used/accessed, only on one wide of the room. The bathroom is large but the shower is very very old and is like a tap rather than a shower head. The bed itself is 2 single beds, but one of them leans to one side and is the most uncomfortable bed I've slept on. And every time I moved or adjusted the pillows, it squeaked loudly. As we went to sleep last night, we confirmed to each other that we wouldn't stay here again. We checked out of another Premier Inn in Glasgow Hamilton yesterday and checked into this one on the same day. The difference between comfort, decor, cleanliness and standards are beyond comprehension. Repairs have been done but it is noticeable, some areas of the carpet are dusty/dirty, some light switches have been removed on one side of the bed, and the mould around the window with the hole in the smelly crinkled curtains says it all! This is not a Premier Inn standard hotel, these are not beds for a 'good night's sleep', this is no longer an 'ok' hotel and needs to be sold, knocked down or fully closed for a full renovation before anyone else stays here again. We will not be coming back and will find another hotel to stay at when visiting family, and will be advising our other family to do the same. Note: as I write this, loud drilling has commenced at 9.03am, so we will now be leaving the hotel to find somewhere for my husband to work remotely for the day!

Our stay at Premier Inn South Shields Port Of Tyne was marred by an incredibly disruptive experience from room 56. The incessant noise from neighboring room 56, caused by an unruly child and father who both needed their mouths washing out with soap (never heard language like that from a young child and it’s something my 11 old wouldn’t dream of doing, although she learn some new words on this trip), persisted throughout the night, making rest impossible. This started just after 2am Saturday the 4th and we believe the people in the neighbouring room had already been moved that night. Despite my complaint to reception in the morning and a request for a) us to be located or b) the people in room 56 to be moved I was told that the hotel was full on the Saturday night and a room location was not possible but not to worry as the “feral family” in room 56 were leaving that day. Fast forward to the Sunday morning (5th) as I sit on the bed writing this review, the situation wasn't appropriately handled. It's disheartening to note that I was lied to by the male member of staff on reception the Saturday morning as they did in fact stay the Saturday night. The disruptive behaviour continued on Sunday morning although starting at 5am and not 2am like the previous night, affecting yet another night's sleep, leading to an overall disappointing and frustrating stay. So much for the poster in the lift stating “staying at premiere inn means you’re welcomed into a hotel where everyone is kind and considerate towards one another”.

Placed in a good location for going out and about in South shields the hotel has free parking and a large and clean room with an amazingly huge and comfy bed. We had the usual Tea and coffee facility, iron and ironing board, TV and the price was very reasonable. A huge breakfast selection awaited is in the morning ready to start our day which we paid extra for but was well worth it. A bar and restaurant was available for lunch/dinner but we mostly ate out as we prefer fresh food. There was traffic and roadworks outside the window but generally we were unaffected by these. The bathroom was ideal as it had a bath for my wife and a shower for myself, thanks to the team we had a lovely stay 👍

Premier inn south shields has the best staff. I was devastated to call in last week to find the Brewers fayre had gone! As my wife and I got out of the car our stomachs hit the floor. What was once a little bustling place with lovely people who always had time no matter how busy they were both in the restaurant and hotel. SHAME ON YOU premier inn as a brand. You have completely ripped the soul out of the hotel by removing brewers fayre. You should have extended the lease. This is one of your very few hotels commended by myself and promoted across mental health platforms. The place to go in southshields as the staff were so considerate and understanding. Invest in modernising the restaurant and speculate to accumulate. Update the soft play!, install gaming stations e.g PS5 for kids who's parents can't afford it. Have a stage? Come on!!. You can't tell me builders book as often without somewhere to eat and drink. Have a attractive outdoor seating area. Change the name do whatever.. but you have lost the most committed, and dedicated staff that you had in that restaurant. My wife had tears in her eyes. They foyer needs to be more welcoming as it once was and why is Suzanne not the manager? That lady is so committed to the hotel and should be used as a role manager to other managers. Days off when we stayed she came in especially to sort out a burst pipe! Suzanne and her staff supported me through a nental health crisis. She sat with me outside on a bench one morning and changed my mindset. You cant buy that! If you want to increase profit listen to your customers. They know what they want. Get the lease and get your boffs to create the ultimate family pub/play experience. I live 20 miles away and would frequent if you could get the original staff back I don't you will find anyone of that calibre.crikey do taco Tuesday or something. Just bring it back to life. You're killing your customer numbers and your profits. Just do it right the...
