Cathedral Cottage Bed & Breakfast — Hotel in Winchester

June 2023 Quirky? Maybe... Shabby Chic? I'm not exactly sure what that is but it could be (an earlier reviewer used the term...). Our "room" was a shed at the bottom of the garden. Admittedly quite a nice shed, with en-suite facilities and a fridge, but a shed nevertheless...

If you understand and accept what that means, then you are going to enjoy the experience. We were almost at the end of a long (50 day) trip all around the UK, and this was the perfect antidote to our previous few hectic days. We decided to stay in Winchester at the last minute for a quiet evening before heading to London Hotel and flights home. We are glad we did. This one night in Winchester was one of the many highlights of our trip, made all the better by staying at Cathedral View. Our hosts were friendly and interesting people and we enjoyed spending time chatting. You will be asked if you would like to solve the "riddle" of the stone (edifice??) standing in their small but delightful garden. We enjoyed a lovely evening walk around the town (the property really is in a fantastic location) and returned to the quiet space that was our place for the night. Breakfast was an above average version of the classic English Breakfast. Cooked to order, with various options available on request. Parking was available via a Visitor's Permit by arrangement with the owner. Oh, yes.... There are rooms available in the main residence as well - but I think we'll take the shed again, next...
