Alfies — Restaurant in Winchester

Worst service ever! The waitress tried to come and remove the used glasses from our table and while holding way to many glasses in her hands, she then pours the remaining beer from the glasses in her hands over my shirt and pants. It was quite a lot of beer but the waitress just left and came back with a couple of paper towels and left.

I then called her quietly back and asked what she wanted to do about the problem. She then replied me, that it was just an accident and she couldn't do anything about it. I then said. the least she could do was to buy me a new beer or offer to pay for the dry cleaning. She refused both and went back to the bar. I then went up there and tried to talk to her again. Without saying anything, she just asked me, "what did you drink" and I replied that I had had a Fosters (Cheapest beer there) and she poured me one. I took a sip from it as she turned away and I walked back to sit down. She then yelled at me and said I had to come back and pay!!! I turned around and was a little weirded out. She the said she had given me a 0,5 pound discount for the troubles!! I thought that was insane, but the manager then came and asked what the problem was. I then told the story and while holding the beer I already had a sip of he then offered me half a pint instead for the trouble. I found it so ridiculous and said he could then pay for the dry cleaning of my shirt instead, but he refused.

We were 15 people from IBM in the pub that night watching a football match. Instead of staying for one more round, everybody took their stuff and left due to the lack of incompetence and service of the staff. Essentially, one beer could have gotten them 15 more that night. My colleagues will definitely not come back, including me!

All in all, the place is not recommendable. The food is even bad and quite expensive!

UPDATE: As an update to my previous review, this is in fact a repost, but after reading the review on my Trip Advisor, I thought it belonged here as well. The owner is at a loss to understand how after 18 months this could still be an issue. Well, that might just be because it made a REALLY bad impression on me.

My good self was in fact NOT back, but as colleagues after me have been for trainings in Winchester, they might have gone to the bar for a first time. I can't say if they came back or not... People should indeed make their own opinion and from what I can see from many reviews here, the service needs a lot of attention. The owner now even responds to the review with a sarcastic comment about me only having given 3 reviews on google is odd. I don't necessarily use the time and the effort to give reviews, but when I do it's because they really made a bad impression. If you want to go to a place, where they make you look stupid and make sarcastic comments on your reviews afterwards, this is the place! I'm not trained in the restaurant/bar business, but as a minimum I thought the customer was always right. Seems like this is not...

Stopped in for a few drinks with my partner and children on a day out in Winchester. We ordered Peroni and Daura Damm gluten-free beers for me, Camden Hells for my partner and J20s and Fanta bottles for the kids. My partner and I shared a large portion of spicy chips, which as well as being vegan and gluten free, they were delicious and good value. The kids shared some chips and they loved those too and enjoyed a game of pool, on a pool table that takes card payments. Great experience inside this pub, lovely bar staff, good selection of drinks and a brilliant atmosphere! However the door staff were very rude and weren't willing to listen to reason. A friend of mine had a couple of drinks but was in no way drunk, she has a medical condition which causes her legs to wobble if stood up for too long, she went outside for a cigarette and the bouncers decided she was too intoxicated to re-enter!
