Subject: A Charming Day at Winchester City Mill with the National Trust Dear National Trust Team, I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the delightful experience I had at Winchester City Mill during my visit in August. As a member of the National Trust, I've had the pleasure of exploring various properties, and Winchester City Mill did not disappoint. The mill's picturesque setting by the River Itchen immediately captured my attention. The serene surroundings added to the charm of the place, creating a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The staff at Winchester City Mill were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly. Their passion for the mill's history and the National Trust's mission was evident, as they enthusiastically shared insights and answered my numerous questions. It's always a pleasure to interact with individuals who are genuinely passionate about their work. The milling demonstration was a highlight of my visit. Witnessing the ancient machinery in action was not only educational but also a mesmerizing experience. The dedicated volunteers provided a vivid and engaging explanation, making the history of the mill come alive. The National Trust's commitment to preserving our cultural and historical heritage was evident throughout the property. The well-maintained exhibits and informative displays added depth to my understanding of Winchester City Mill's role in the community over the centuries. I also appreciated the efforts made to create a welcoming atmosphere. The small tea room overlooking the river was a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a cup of tea, accompanied by delicious treats. It's these little touches that make a visit memorable. In conclusion, my visit to Winchester City Mill was a delightful journey into the past, and I want to extend my gratitude to the National Trust team for their dedication to preserving and sharing our rich cultural heritage. I look forward to exploring more National Trust properties in the future. Warm regards,
Ivor HumphriesIvor Humphries
This is a really lovely place to look around, you would not expect to see something so beautiful and picturesque in the centre of a city.It has been fully restored and is now a working mill, powered by the crystal clear waters of the River Itchen which in turn makes this mechanical marvel come to life and produce a very fine flour. As always it has been taken over by the National Trust who do a fantastic job on preserving some of our national treasures that would otherwise be left to rot and probably be knocked down never to be seen again. It is very interesting with a lot of information and lovely little on site shop, hopefully they will raise enough funds to put in a cafe area which they said is in the pipeline. The river is so pretty they even have videos of otters passing under the mill, with all its tranquility you forget you are in the centre of Winchester, itself a magnificent place to look around which we did on our day out.If you are visiting the city mill is a must see

I really enjoyed my visit here, the setting of the Mill is beautiful with the crystal clear waters of the river Itchen feed from chalk meadows flowing around the garden island to form two water flows, one of which powers the Water Wheel. The upper level of the Mill has a lots of information about the process of making flour and a short video detailing the history of the Mill and it's restoration. On the lower level you can see the Waterwheel providing the power which is transferred through cogs and gears through to the grinding stones. The water is so pure it has encouraged otters to visit the Mill evidenced by recorded footage you can watch. The National Trust has done a great job bringing this old Mill alive and into a working facility producing flour which you can purchase at the shop.
