OK, this review may be a little long so bear with me, I come from a back ground of staying at many, many campgrounds around Alaska. I often hear or rather read the complaint, big gravel parking lot. I get it, I hate them too, but the why is often not mentioned. Its a matter of economics, unlike say California, or even Oregon, Alaskan campgrounds must make their money in four months, trees take up space and cost money; so this campgorund in that respect is no different. I also realized that the there are different types of campers, this type of campground is sorley needed in Seward. Valdez seems to attract a top tier Rv'er who wants amenties and doesn't mind spending more. Homer and Seward have lots of inexpensive not so fancy campground easy on the wallet, but till now Seward did not have the full package, full hookups, nice bath rooms and laundry, internet etc. Yes there is a campgound nearby but not near as nice, of course this place is brand new. Ok, so pros and cons, the place is spotless, and new this year. The office has coffee and items you might need for your trip. They have propane, and dump site and fire wood right there. Theres a cool, eagle nest on site. The owner, gave me a discount and gave me exaclty what I asked for, a site at the back of the park. The rules seem to be enforced, someone tried balring music late one night, he was shut down immediatley. The bath and shower rooms are nicer than any you will ever find in a campground in Alaska. Cons. well it cost, more than anywhere in Seward but again this is not just a space to plop down. Really no cons with the campground its the " neighbors". The famous Seavey clan have a Kennel next door so you will occasionly hear dogs bark and howl, no big deal. The part I hated though was the shooting on the river bed nearby, again not constant, but I want peace and tranquility not Baghdad when Im camping and enjoying Seward. One day it went on for hours, automatic gun fire. I guess for the right perspon this is the right place, no campground in Seward is withtout serious draw backs and most are gravel lots and most you are sardined in. Which is something I forgot, very spacious spaces here, lots of room....
Read moreOur GPS took us straight to this campground just before Seward on Glacier Road. Check-in was quick and easy, and we headed to Deluxe Patio FHU Site 14 with 50 AMP. From the Journey signage, it appeared this KOA had recently been upgraded to a Holiday. The campground was laid out nicely, with sites not squished together. The gravel pad was long enough for our 40’ toy hauler, allowing us to drop the rear deck and still park our F450. Utilities were well-centered on the pad, and having two sewer hookups was especially convenient since we have two black tanks. Along with the usual deluxe patio amenities, we appreciated the astroturf lawn for our pups. Trees lined the side and back perimeters, but with none along the road side we had a clear Starlink shot. The campground also provided Starlink WiFi with download speeds around 22.8 Mbps. Water pressure was steady at 35–40 PSI. Verizon gave us 2 bars, while T-Mobile had none. Amenities included a tidy laundry with three front-load washers and three regular-sized dryers. A fun bonus was hearing sled dogs barking at Turning Heads Kennel next door, an Iditarod competitor offering kennel tours and sled dog rides both there and on the glacier. We also enjoyed watching eaglets in the nest right across from our site. The staff were very accommodating, even moving a grill for us and delivering a propane fill back to our site. Overall, this was a well-run campground with thoughtful upgrades and memorable...
Read moreWe have been staying at the Alaska KOAs on our travels. This was another location that we had one of the patio sites. This site had a 4 burner BBQ, fire pit, picnic table, another table and chairs, and 2 Adirondack chairs. Everything was on a concrete pad except the picnic table that was on artificial grass. It was perfect. The staff was so nice and had great suggestions for places to eat etc. The sled dog kennel next door was so cool. The dogs never barked at night. In fact, we only heard them once during the day. The bathrooms were very clean as were the showers. They are individual rooms with the shower included. There are tent sites that have a great mountain view, a few cabins and plenty of RV sites. They have fun games and cool playground for kids. There is also mini golf that was popular with guests. The laundry was in the game room. There were 3 washers and 3 dryers. I am really short so I only had one dryer to chose from (I could've made my husband come do the upper dryers). The location is perfect for going to see Exit Glacier, since it is at the end of the street that the KOA is located. There is a restaurant and a Salmon Bake within walking distance. If we are ever back in Alaska in this area, we will definitely stay here again. Thanks for another...
