||||||The cabin at the Steller Inn was a good idea poorly executed. ||||We reserved the Elderberry Cabin, mistakenly thinking it was the charming old cabin, presumably updated inside, with the lovely covered porch, in the on-line photos. ||||No so. This very small and new “cabin” resembled an enclosed woodshed, with a roof sloping to only just above 6 feet in height at one side. ||||Storage is nonexistent. One is required to hang a couple of clothing articles on pegs so close together that half the pegs are unusable. How about this: a 3 foot long clothes bar to the left of the door to the bathroom? Simple to do. Wildly helpful. But not done. ||||The bathroom is so small that many Americans would have trouble squeezing between the edge of the tiny sink and the shower. The sink surround leaves little room for a hairbrush to teeter on the edge of it. Standing up from the toilet, a slender person almost encounters the sink edge. ||||The lighting is irritatingly substandard. One side of the room has ceiling lights with bulbs surely of the lowest wattage known to man. The bathroom mirror edge dimly lights up, and is highly unhelpful as a bathroom light. ||||We wished we had halogen headlamps to see inside our suitcases. ||||No food is provided on site, a big mistake in today’s lodging market. ||||The manager didn’t even advise us of the great Roadhouse restaurant down the road when we asked about breakfast options, which we luckily found by driving around. Or knew when the major construction closures were on the main road back to Anchorage. Both should be known to assist guests. ||||This is a visually charming property but, in the end, exasperatingly non-functional. It took unnecessary vacation time and effort to deal with the peculiarities of the space. ||||Unless you want to exhaust yourselves trying to maneuver the limitations of this room,...

Read moreWe had a brief 2 night stay at Steller Inn. We got in late, after dark, and there is no outside lighting in the parking area so had a hard time figuring out where we could park and tried to be as quiet as possible unloading our bags. We stayed in room 6 which was clean and warm. No closet space, but a few hooks hanging from a mirror. Breakfast nook half table with 2 dining chairs, twin bed and a full size bed. Full size was comfortable, good pillows. Cute little balcony out the deck with the stream to listen to, and see salmon going up to spawn. Small coffee pot with coffee grounds, filters, half&half and creamer (individual ones) in the fridge was very nice. There was also an assortment of teas and such. Nice fluffy towels. There isn't much room if you come with a lot of luggage but it was a nice, quiet stay and a quick 5 minute drive to the harbor in Seward. Mini fridge, microwave, paper plates, napkins and plastic ware was nice to have in the room already. The floors can be chilly on bare feet- especially on the tile floor in the bathroom. But it was a beautiful property and clean room. This was a last minute trip so next time, we'll see if there's a bigger room available for our...
