This motel is fine if you have reasonable expectations and understand that you'll be getting an older, dated motel in exchange for a more economical stay. The positives are that the basics were clean, the shower had good water pressure, there are beautiful hanging baskets everywhere, which greatly improves the overall appearance, and it's pretty convenient to Denali. The downsides are that the sheets on my bed were worn and both pillowcases were quite pilled, so it made it hard to get comfortable. I would also suggest not looking too closely in the room, because beyond the basics, it definitely needed a deep cleaning. The vents were coated in dust. The main reason I'm knocking off a few stars, though, is because the proprietor raised the price after I had booked and after he had sent me an email confirmation with the price and his lack of courtesy in handling the situation. Admittedly, I had booked 14 months in advance, and I understand inflation is putting a lot of pressure on small businesses. Had he let me know at the time of booking that I would be paying the 2022 price or contacted me in advance to let me know about the increase, I would have been fine with that since it was still a good price for the area. When I calmly and politely asked him about the price increase upon check-in, though, he got very defensive and said that's what every hotel operator would do since I had booked so far in advance. (I booked every place we stayed on our trip around the same time, and no other accommodation changed their price.) I continued to point out that it's not right to just increase a confirmed price with no notice, and he just told me if I didn't like it I could find somewhere else to stay. Clearly his customer service skills...
Read moreThis not a lodge, but more in line with a motel. ||Check in was relatively quick and easy. ||If you are looking for an upgraded room, this is not the place for you. The reviews for this “lodge” are a little misleading, as this location needs to upgrade the rooms. The floors, including the bathtub are all very uneven. ||This review is based solely on unit 9. ||The good: bed was comfortable, heat worked in bedroom and bathroom, refrigerator was adequate, TV worked and room clean||The bad: door closed, but there was a large gap (could see daylight), floors uneven (from the front door to the bathtub room was uneven. This actually became a joke.), ||Huge plus: location, location, location. Very close to Denali and dinner at 49th State Brewing, basically across the highway was excellent. Outside of property was nicely decorated. I felt like I was staying in downtown Dawson City, which isn’t a bad thing. ||Pricing for this room is excellent considering its location. Would I pay this price in downtown anchorage, no, but considering pricing in and around Denali, it is a good find, even though it does need remodeling. Location and cleanliness are my top reasons to stay somewhere. ||Again, this place is “tired” so have an open mind if you rent. Do not rent expecting the Ritz and then complain that it isn’t updated and worth the money. ||I believe I paid for location and cleanliness, so if I ever return to Denali, I...
Read moreRoom #2 was the room we were assigned eventho my Sister (Ice) made the reservation early in March/April. Room #2 appears to have structural issues and mold running inside the wall that comes from the shower. The shower head cannot be adjusted and hits the back wall.. The tub is not level so when the water runs down the wall it runs along the backside of the tub rim and off into the floor. The wall/tub is poorly sealed and water has been getting into the wall causing the mold that I could spell pungently. Woke up with a headache both mornings we were there and left with congested sinus and a runny nose - some of the symptoms for shirt term black mold exposure. While the mgr was attentive there were excuses or he acted like he was not aware of he issues when we brought it to his attention. The wifi was very spotty in our room. In my sister's room #1 they had no wifi or TV. My spread on my bed had yellow stains on the back of it.... Not sure why it is still being used bc it did not make me feel like the place was clean. Was not offered any compensation for the issues of these rooms.... Still cost $200/night per room. I would not recommend white moose lodge and will not stay there again bc this room should NOT be rented due to the mold and the structural issues that they've...
