We were very impressed with the hotel and the staff as they made a very difficult situation much easier to deal with. My mother passed away unexpectedly and we travelled from Denver to western Maryland for her memorial service. On Thursday, we checked in for our flight home and then drove 3 hours to the airport only to learn that our flight was cancelled due to weather in Denver. The next available flight would be Sunday. After spending hours trying to find a reasonably priced room in Washington DC we reserved a room at the Courtyard quickly and easily and were told that the shuttle would be picking us up within 25 minutes. Our first exposure to the hotel was the shuttle driver (I think his name was Frederick) who arrived promptly within the 25-minute timeframe. He was quite charming and funny and was able to make us laugh and smile despite our frustrations. Upon our arrival to the hotel, William greeted us with a smile, kindness and empathy which was very much appreciated. Every employee that we spoke with during our 3 days at the Courtyard was friendly and accommodating. Several times they expressed their condolences for the loss of my mother and asked how we were doing and if we needed anything. We were able to get an earlier flight out (one day earlier) though it was a later flight. Allowing us to have a late checkout and crediting us for one night's stay (I pre-paid for 4 days) was very generous. When we complimented the management on the customer service provided we were told that it is a Marriott standard. The facility itself was lovely. There is a laundry room, the detergent is provided and it is reasonably priced. The breakfast buffet was delicious, hot and well stocked even at 9:30 am. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The Wi-Fi was free and there were several computers we used to search for alternate flights and to print off our boarding passes. The staff has continued to make us feel like they care even after checking out of the hotel. I received a follow-up email from William yesterday to make sure we made it home safely and wishing us a happy Easter with our girls. The fact that he remembered that we were trying to make it home to our girls before Easter means a lot to us. We have shared our experience with all of our friends and family and encouraged them to stay at Marriott hotels when they travel in the future. This was our first stay at a Marriott hotel but it won't...
Read moreI usually only comment about a place if I had a really bad experience. I think this will go down as one of the worst Hotel experiences i have had........... The one star is a gift because that wasn't even deserved.
Lets first cut to the chase on the actual condition of the hotel. The ONLY thing thats nice in the Hotel is the lobby. When we pulled up we saw rats running into the bushes. The people that worked the front desk were very nice, but a bit unprofessional. They were in a group while I was in the lobby, joking and being very loud, that probably has to do with poor management. The elevators are old and rickety, and very hot on the inside. The hallways were very hot and humid as well leading to the rooms. The ice machine on our floor was broken as well. Looking around you could see where there hae been corners cut and "bandaids" put on things that require little maintenance. For example the door to my room was soaked with WD40, because of the the Door spring must have been creaky. somebody could at least have wiped the excess off.
Upon entering the room, it was like a flash back to the late 90's early 2000's. The paint job was very tacky. The beds were okay the room was clean, but i feel like it deserved a deep clean.
Now lets talk about the food , the wings were awesome! that was the highlight of the whole stay. But lets talk about that $10 hamburger on the menu.... stay away! The patty is precooked and cooked in a convection oven, the bun was a bit stale and they were tight with the condiments. the fries were pretty good too.
Lets get into the admin and billing part of this trip which is by far the why I rated this cesspool one star. If you do stay here and book through a third party, be sure to check your account after your stay! This place completely rebilled my two day stay and incidentals a few days later. They claim it was an accident, but they did ding my card for unauthorized charges, which they could not put right back on my card, you stole money from me in less than 30 seconds but need 7 days to return it? really? unacceptable.
In closing please consider before booking there is a Hilton a quarter mile away from this "3 star hotel" i would spend the 15-20% extra and stay there. You will at least have a...
Read moreMy stay at the Courtyard Alexandria Pentagon was an okay experience. I'm a man who is fairly simple and easy to please. I'm not picky, entitled or a neat freak. I'm very quick to sweep things under the rug like most men. Having said that its a few things that just made me uneasy about my stay there. Upon entering the hotel I went to the front desk to check in and started to read the posted sign about the hold on the cards. At first no one was there and when the lady came from the back her demeanor was just so blah and unfriendly. Now I understand people have long days and get irritated at work but that shouldn't be the face I'm greeted with when I walk into a places as a happy customer. I asked a few questions about the sign and she answered them to the best of her ability. She then looked at me and took a phone call as i stood at the desk ready to check-in. Then a guy (who was pretty casual) came out and assisted me. The check-in from there was smooth. On the way up to my room I stopped pass the table wit the cookies and infused water that looked so refreshing, especially after a long day at a conference. I grabbed a cup of water which was really good. Then I grabbed a cookie, bit into it, it was hard. Like c'mon who messed up the cookies?! I went to my room which was on the 7th floor. When I opened the door it had the mildew, wet carpet smell. It wasn't crazy over powering but it was definitely present. One other issue I had was I called room service for extra glasses and it took 2 hours to receive them, after calling back an hour later to figure out where the glasses were. They did comp an Ice cream to make up for the long wait. Aside from the dry personality, the hard cookie, the mildew smell and the long wait, the rest of my experience was pretty good. The shower was great, the bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious with basic amenities. Room service cleaned excellent. The pool and Jacuzzi was great wish it was open until at least Mid-night. Had a fun bonding night with some adults from the hotel in the Jacuzzi then 10 O'clock came and no one was ready to get out. Just a few things from my...
