To start I will say We did arrive a little bit early and the girl said our room wasn’t ready, which was fine with us. She said she would call us in about half an hour. We had parked our car in the lot across the street and had brought our luggage in with us. We were surprised when she didn’t offer to hold the luggage for that short time like many hotels do as a courtesy for you, and she watched us lug it back across the street to our parked car and then again lugged back to hotel when room was ready. We should have known from that moment on things were not what we were expecting from this hotel. We had booked the Ascend Hotel Collection thinking it would be an elite collection of Choice Hotels and be a cut above others. She did call us within half an hour and we went up to our room, which was a nice large room. Unfortunately when I opened bathroom door, it smelled musty like wet towels and mildew. My husband was tired from driving all day, so he didn’t want the hassle of trying to get another room, so I just went to the store and purchased some Febreeze Air Mist and also a jar of “Total Home Odor Absorbing Gel”, which did help a little. Also the bathroom door banged against the commode when you opened it and couldn’t be opened all the way, which was very annnoying. There were tiles also missing on bathroom floor. Then I proceeded to unpack and when I opened the wardrobe to hang our clothes, there were no hangers. My husband went to the desk and they said they would send some up. Unfortunately the girl brought two hangers, which she said was all she could find although there had to be some even in unoccupied rooms she could have borrowed for one night. In fact, I had to drape clothes over backs of chairs since we didn’t have enough hangers. I went to use the hairdryer and although it worked, the handle had what appeared to be a label peeled off all over the entire handle with sticky glue so your hand got sticky and disgusting. This was therefore unusable because if this. We were gone the entire day, from 9:30am to 4:30pm, and when we entered the room.when we got back, it was not cleaned and everything was as we left it-unmade bed, wet towels from after our showers and bathroom not cleaned or anything cleaned. The garbage pails were overflowing and the entire situation was very disappointing. We went to hotel receptionist and reported the uncleaned room. She said she would check in housekeeping notes then to see if there was a reason and she said nothing was noted or no reason. Again she never offered to give us a at least a clean room for the night as something I would expect from a hotel like the Windsor. We even had to go back down to the desk to get clean, dry towels and also coffee and cups for morning. This was totally unacceptable since we were gone all day, never returning until 4:30pm, so they had plenty of time to clean the room. I think the lack of training in the hospitality business is evident at this hotel. I do have to say we ate at the restaurant at the hotel for two breakfasts and one dinner and that was fine and the waiter and waitresses in the restaurant were very good, but that is the only thing good I can say about this hotel. We had booked this short getaway to celebrate our 58th wedding anniversary and unfortunately it was one disappointment after another and after another. You can imagine our frustration when we were hoping to have a nice little get away for our anniversary and this Windsor Hotel was a complete letdown. I feel there should be some compensation for all the negative things that happened and ruined our anniversary celebration. I do hope this gets forwarded to the manager of the Windsor Hotel in Americus and things can be corrected for further guests, as I would appreciate that. We have stayed in many historic hotels throughout the country and have never experienced anything like this. Thank you, Mr. & Mrs...
Read moreIt's a beautiful and historic place! But I did have ants pretty bad in the shower and bugs in my bathroom area. Also on our last night there, there was a roach on my bed... ALIVE! Freaked me out! My family had three other rooms and they said their rooms were fine. I loved the set up of the room I had though! The bed was very comfy too! It had a down comforter. Also it was nice that I had an actual air condition unit in my room that I could control. Unlike most hotels, they only have those units by the window that usually don't work. I wasn't impressed with the fact that they charge you to use a pack'n'play for a baby to sleep in. It was ten dollars a night. On top of being charged, they didn't even mention it until we checked out. They did end up refunded me though. Just thought for such a nice place they shouldn't charge you for amenities you need! They only offer the one queen bed that's pretty high up too. A 5month old has no place on a bed thats high up. Especially with no railings and hard floors. I do wish the place was a little more sound proof. I could hear my sister's family a few rooms down and vice versa. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful place to look at but not so great to stay at. Especially, if you have two children like me. It was a rough few days for us! The restaurant Rosemary and Thyme didn't have a kids menu and they're so incredibly slow/understaffed it's ridiculous. We ate there twice. The one night we ate there we did have a pretty big party I'll give them that. There was like 20 people in our party. But it took over 2hrs just to get our food! Not to mention there was no kids menu/coloring sheet or food for kids at all. There is no reason their ticket times should ever be over 30mins! I'm a server and have worked in the food industry for at least 10 years! They should of had another server on our party! We never got refills or napkins or anything we asked for really. Mind you gratuity is already added in! My sister's family and my family had to just get our food to go without eating because it took so long and our kids couldn't even eat. It was pretty pricey too. It was very frustrating! Then my daughter(3yo), my infant son(5mo), my dad, and I went there for breakfast. It was a total disaster! Worse than the night with a 20 top! We didn't even get greeted for 45mins! It was outrageous! There was 1 server in the entire restaurant and he was helping cook too. We were there for over 2 hours again! I mean the food was ok, not worth the wait though! So I mean something desperately NEEDS to change there. Poor guy was dying! He literally had 8 tables that we were 2 tops- 4 tops and 2 other tables that were 8 tops! That's just ridiculous to think one person can do all that! There was no hostess either! So also seat guests too! To be a gratuity restaurant they need to step their game up! To be a server with experience and see how this restaurants ran is just insane! That guy should of NEVER EVER been the only person there besides the cook! There was no manager there at all!? Just a disastrous set up especially to be a "high_class" place! I doubt that it'll...
Read moreWe have always loved this hotel. The history, the beauty and charm. Maybe a little run down but still an enjoyable stay. This time not so much. First let me say that the two ladies at the front desk were awesome through all the trouble. |When we arrived rooms were not ready because they only had 1 washing machine working and they were behind. Mina helped everyone with a smile and said they were working as quick as possible to get rooms ready. While waiting we made a reservation for tonight at Rosemary & Thyme, one of the onsite restaurants. When we tried to get off the elevator to go to dinner the doors would not open properly. We pushed them open and proceeded to the restaurant only to be told they were closed and we would have to eat at the pub. Not the kind food we wanted but I am diabetic and needed to eat. We were very upset about this and asked for a manager. The woman who told us the other restaurant was closed said that was her. She was not interested about our concerns and the conversation did not go well. I ordered a french dip and a salad. When the sandwhich came it was burnt to a crisp. The meet was crispy and hard. When I told them I could not eat it they acted like I was in the wrong. French dips are supposed to be tender juicy meat. The kitchen knew what they sent out was horrible and never should have sent it to the table! The salad was not much either. Lettuce and 2 halved cherry tomatoes. Unappetizing at best. I could not take any more. My glucose dropped to 50 and I could not deal with it and left to go back to the room to eat a breakfast bar. My husband went and talked to Vicki at the front desk. He was very upset. She told him she would have food sent to the room. They brought a steak, potatoes and a very nice side salad with better looking lettuce, more cherry tomatoes, carrot slivers and cheese. Vicki came up to check on us. We told her we had stayed here several times and always enjoyed it. We can’t understand what went so wrong this time. We told her we were cancelling our reservation for our return trip. She asked us to reconsider. We told her we would decide in the morning. If we do decide to give the Windsor anther chance it will be...
