Somehow my review and photos have been deleted. I wonder why.... (this is lengthy, I apologize but it's really worth the read). The bathtub was riddled with black mold (in 2 separate rooms). The breakfast is simple, nothing to really complain about there. The front desk clerk that was there in the mornings was rude, nasty, and completely unprofessional. The guy that was there during nights was really nice and friendly. As we checked in with the nighttime receptionist, I was told that even though we were paying with cash, I would need to put a credit card down. Fine, I didn't have enough in my account to cover the 5 nights because I had just taken it out to pay cash. I was told that was fine, it was just for incidentals. The next morning we couldn't get into our room after breakfast. We went to the front desk and the morning receptionist informed us that my card declined and we wouldn't be allowed back into our room until our stay was paid for. "Not even to get your things, you have to pay to get that door unlocked or else you just have to leave without it". I explained to her that we would be paying in cash and the other receptionist said it would be ok to pay at the end, but If that's not the case, I would be happy to pay upfront. She said "when has that ever been how this works" and then said something that implied that we couldn't afford to stay there anyway. We paid for our one night and then we asked to be moved rooms because the bathroom had some mold in the tub. She said "we just got a complaint yesterday about that too, sure, take a look at this other room and let me know if you'd like to move into it". We took the key and went and looked. It was just as moldy. We went to the front desk and let her know that we would just like to cancel our remaining nights. She became a whole different person. "I'm so sorry your stay hasn't been up to your standards, if you can be out within the hour, I don't have to charge you for tonight, etc." We packed up and left, finishing our stay in Ames at the hotel across the street. As I was printing off pictures at the Sam's Club, I received a phone call. It was the receptionist accusing me of stealing bedding! Are you kidding me?! Why would I steal bedding from a hotel room that was covered in mold!? I told her that we didn't take anything- if there wasn't the appropriate amount of bedding in the room then it wasn't there when we arrived. I called corporate and told them everything. Hopefully it helps their establishment. We were in town for a funeral and this was very unwelcome stress that was added...
Read moreMy disabled mother stayed at the Baymont in Ames and things were fine the first two nights. The third morning her toilet was plugged and leaking at the base, around the wax seal. We requested that the staff fix the problem, and if unable to do so, to please try to find her another handicapped accessible room in town as we were off to multiple appointments and did not have time to do so. They quickly got back to us and said the problem was fixed. We knew they had not had time to replace the wax seal, and they told us the only issue was the toilet was plugged with tissue and that "there was nowhere else for the water to go." A plugged toilet does not leak from the wax seal - it overflows over the top. Leakage from the wax seal area means the wax seal needs replacing. Mom had the same issue back in September at this hotel and had to switch to another hotel, due to the fact that Baymont only has one handicapped-accessible room. That time, the clerk could not get the toilet to plunge at all. We had decided to give them another chance this trip. Mom decided not to chance this happening again this evening/night (what would have been her last day at Baymont this trip), so I made two phone calls before finding her a handicapped room in town, made a trip to that location to make certain she would be able to access what she needed in the room, had Mom make sure the Baymont wouldn't charge her for today if she checked out, had her pack her belongings, and had to move her across town to the new hotel for tonight. At checkout, I requested a discount for her stay. The male staff member in charge flat out refused any discount at all, stating that there was no problem with the toilet other than it being plugged and having to be plunged. I said I expected some discount for our inconvenience and he stated that there had been no inconvenience to us. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a hotel. I plan to take this up...
Read moreThis is supposedly a smoke free, pet friendly facility, but long story short, our room REEKED of cigarettes, and the worker literally told me I was wrong and he did not smell anything. Our bathroom door was also broken at the hinge and would not shut, and he demanded that he inspect it before letting us move to another room. Our shower also had black mold in it, there was hair INSIDE the hairdryer, the bathroom rack was broken and held together by tape, and the door had numerous screws holding the layers of wood together. At check out, I was reprimanded for having pets, when I CLEARLY told them when booking the hotel that I would be bringing TWO pets with me. The man told me only service animals are allowed, then slapped a $15 fee onto my card without even telling me. He handed the receipt to me and I left, not knowing about the fee until I actually looked at the receipt (and he had already charged me).
The new room we were moved into was great, very clean smelling and with a much better bed too. The bathroom looked to be in way better condition. Still, the service was horrible (the woman we checked in with was very kind, but the two men I spoke to...
