PLEASE READ! TRAVELER ALERT! would give zero stars if I could. I've stayed in several Super 8's across the country. You get what you pay for at one, which is usually what you need: a clean bed, toilet, and shower. When the girlfriend and I needed to go to Ames for a family reunion, I had no hesitation booking with a Super 8. After staying at this location, I will always have a moment of hesitation. I placed a reservation for a King non smoking. Not super difficult. Went to check in. No non smoking available. I was upset, but I used to be a smoker so I figured a little tobacco smell wouldn't kill me. Upon entering the room, the stale nicotine and tar smell hit us and I wanted to vomit.
The ceiling was stained yellow and was dripping down the wall from the years of tar caked on it. The bed was clearly a full/queen that they had just moved in because there was a king size head board and the night stands were still in place where a king would have been. The carpet was sticky. Our BARE FEET were sticking to the carpet. The shower looks like it was built for someone 3 feet tall. The water came out at about mid chest level and the stream was like being urinated on by a homeless man outside of a Motel 6. Well, I guess a Super 8 now. We took a shower and the smoke detector went off. IT'S A SMOKING ROOM AND STEAM SET THE DETECTOR OFF! The only positive that came out of this disgusting experience was that my girlfriend and I laughed so hard because we could not believe the awfulness of this hotel. Literally we laughed for like an hour.
The staff is meh. When I went to check in around noon he said the room wasn't ready (after seeing it I'm wondering what had taken them so long) and said "around like 2 or 3 I guess?" When checking out, they didn't even thank me for my stay. It sounds elitist, I know, but it's the little things. Didn't even ask me how my stay was. Probably because deep down inside the tar pit of his soul he knew. He knew. Upon arriving home, all of our stuff smelled like a sports bar from 1994 and my girlfriends hair smelled like an ash tray, albeit a very pretty ashtray.
Long story short, don't go to this motel. It is absolutely disgusting. Unless they are charging $5 a night, stay the hell away from the...
Read moreTotal nightmare. My husband fell asleep and I lay in bed with my phone when suddenly 2 bugs caught my eye. They were small and red crawling across the bed. If I had gone straight to bed like my husband, we would have never known until we were covered in bites the next day!! I quickly woke my husband up and we immediately turned on the lights and looked for more. I was in denial but was too paranoid to try and sleep until I was satisfied they weren't bed bugs. Unfortunately, they were. Within minutes we found a few on the wall, pillows, and bed. I placed them in a cup and microwaved them to show the manager in the morning. (Pictures posted) The front desk individual did not sound very suprised. Which was not reassuring. She informed us there were no available rooms (not that we were willing to take a different room after this). Then she stated she can bring us new sheets. I informed her new sheets does not change the fact we are sleeping in a room infested with bed bugs. We are sleeping in our car tonight to speak with the manager in the morning and to show them the bed bugs I've caught. This is just ridiculous. I've never been to a motel or hotel with bed bugs before. Totally not worth staying here for more than $80. This is unacceptable. I DO NOT RECCOMEND. Go somewhere else or stay at your own risk!
Update 8:45am Manager did not come in today. He happened to be on the phone with employee at the front desk when we walked in. It was frustrating how the employee told the manager that we found "bugs" or "black specks" and never called them bed bugs. I showed him the cup with bed bugs that we collected and he takes a quick glance and says "yup those are bugs". We were told we would get a full refund and not be charged for the room. Going to wait for the email confirming that we will be refunded since the manager was not present to do it himself.
You guys have BED BUGS....
Read moreThis was perhaps the worst stay in a motel i have ever had in my life! We checked in about 8 pm after traveling for 4 hours. Immediately from the outside the motel appeared old and uncared for. Checking in the desk was easy, although the foreign nationality desk worker was hard to understand. We were placed in room 201 next to the stair well.
Upon opening the door one nearly gagged from the smell. This hotel was likely a completely smoking hotel at one time. However due to city ordinances was forced non-smoking. However, they never cleaned the smell from the room just reclassified it. To simply describe the smell, it was a cross between strong musk and the smell of cat pee. The floors were sticky, and for the first time while staying in motels I wouldn't walk in the room without my shoes on. At least somewhat of a saving grace was that you could open the windows which helped the smell some. However we both contemplated sleeping in our car or booking a different room at a different motel.
When checking out the next morning we complained about the smell to the front desk. The worker had nothing to say other than sighing and grunting. Obviously they are aware of the problem but the foreign ownership will not fix the problem.
We will NEVER stay at this motel again. The sad thing is that we've stayed in other Super 8 motels and have great times. This one stay may have soured our opinion of all Super 8 chain motels and could prevent us from staying at others...
