I made a 3 hour drive out here and spent the day with family in Ames Iowa . I drove an additional half hour just to make it to this hotel to put my kids to bed . I didn’t arrive until 10:30 at night and I was so tired I rushed my children upstairs. When I opened my door I was absolutely disgusted by our room. There were stains on the wall, sink, and floor. The fridge where I needed to store my food was in such bad shape. It was dented and rusted. There was even a Q-tip above the bed and I was not even going to check if it was used or not. Let’s not forget the chain lock on the door was completely broken. Leaving my family vulnerable. I didn’t feel safe. I brought my children back downstairs to ask for a new room. The lady said I had the last double queen room. I asked for a refund because I didn’t want to stay in that disgusting place. She said she couldn’t give one because I booked on Expedia . I spent the next 20 minutes on the phone with Expedia almost in tears telling them I didn’t want to stay in my room. A man walked behind the desk and was talking to the lady helping me and without even asking me for my thoughts on anything he very rudely told me I would not be getting a refund. I told him I pregnant and I have two children and I deserve way better than this disgusting room. The Expedia customer service rep got back on the phone with me and apologized and told me he was going to refund me right away . He even did it while on the phone with me. I told the man at the desk Expedia was giving me my money back. I gave the card back to them and stormed off with my children. We found a better hotel elsewhere. Do not give these...
Read moreBetter off across the street at the Comfort Inn. I needed a cheap room for a couple nights and generally have no issue staying at a budget motel like the Days Inn. I pre booked my room and arrived at midnight. The front door was locked and the front desk attendant was asleep. I knocked on the door but was unable to wake them. I called the front desk and was able to rouse them. Apparently a power short earlier in the evening caused the computers to malfunction. It took 20 minutes to check in. I then walked to my room and was greeted by ceiling plaster broken and on the floor and water dripping from the ceiling on to the carpet. I alerted the front desk attendant who was shocked at the discovery of the water. The next day I went to work and when I returned I asked the front desk for money back, or to allow me to go to the Comfort Inn. The front desk person called the owner with my request. According to the owner, water dripping and ceiling plaster on the carpet ARE NORMAL, and because it was after checkout time, I would be charged full price for both nights of my reservation. After a second call to the owner, they offered a $20 discount for one night. Conceding that this was the best deal that I was going to receive, I took it. To add insult to injury, as I walked back to my room, I discovered that the rooms immediately surrounding mine are currently being renovated. Nothing better after a short night, and a long day of work on the road, than coming back to the sounds of a construction crew renovating the adjacent hotel rooms. In summary, do yourself a favor and learn from my mistake, do not stay at the Days Inn...
Read moreThere was no hot water in the sink. This was reported at approximately 8:30 pm, and by 6:30 am the following morning the water was still cold. Very difficult to shave and wash face/hands with cold water. Despite this being reported to the front desk, no action was taken and no comp for the room was offered. The room had a horrid smell to it, very dank and musty. Several outlets had no switch plate covers. While they were not easily accessible, it looked awful and one could have been accessed by a small child. No phones in the rooms, so to report issues you have to walk down to the desk. Despite having a smart TV in the room, no smart apps were accessible. I've been in other hotels where you could get to things like Netflix, and then do a one day log in with your personal account. While it appears that they are attempting to fix up the hotel, there are still a number of things that show how worn it is, like the rubber welcome mat right outside of the office door. Most of the nubs are worn off and it looks terrible. There were no bath towels in the room. Of course, we didn't discover that until we were showering so we had to dry off with hand towels.
This was such a disappointing experience and had we been staying more than a single night in Des Moines, I'd have moved us to...
