Our experience at this Microtel Inn Suites by Wyndham facility in Athens, GA was highly disappointing. We made our reservation in September 2023 for our son's UGA graduation on May 10, 2024. All other hotels near the UGA campus were previously booked a year in advance and this was the only available hotel. Entering the facility, it smelled of mold and mustiness. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very nice clerk. She noticed that my wife was in a wheelchair, so she changed our room from the second floor (no elevator) to the first floor. When booking the room in September, we had requested handicap accommodations. The handicap rooms were not available upon our arrival. Our room was a double queen. Entering the room, we noticed paint peeling from the wall, what appeared to be a stain on the headboard of the bed where something had been partially removed (see photos). The bathroom had only one towel and washcloth. We had to go to the desk to obtain to additional towels. We were unable to call the front desk as the telephone in the room was missing buttons and the cord had been torn from the handset. The bathroom floor was sticky. The hotel shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom had been previously used as the bottles were half full and slimy on the outside. The light switch plate had dirty fingerprints, as did the bathroom door. The breakfast, which was described on their website as “Read your free copy of USA Today while you enjoy a free continental breakfast” consisted only of small bottles of orange juice, yogurt, and an almost empty pot of coffee. No free USA Today. There were no tables or chairs in the breakfast area in which to eat. The restroom in the lobby had an “Out of Order” sign on the door. When checking out, the clerk pointed to place our room cards on the desk and said “Have a good day”. We checked out and had breakfast elsewhere. Had there not been a shortage of rooms, due to the college graduation, we would have left and sought accommodations elsewhere. The quoted price of one nights stay was $124. My credit card was charged $222.60. Unfortunately, at the time of this submission, I have been unable to contact the hotel to understand the overcharge to my credit card. The photos and description of the Microtel website are inaccurate and misleading. I have attached photos of the...
Read moreBooked a last minute hotel room to stay the night, price was great, but you get what you pay for. Pulled up to the hotel and it doesn’t look too bad from the outside, until I saw the front door. Very shady people standing by the door smoking weed, people hanging out in the lobby like it was their living room, and not in an inviting manner. The inside of the hotel smelled moldy and looked run down. I booked a non-smoking room and when I got in there it smelled like people had been smoking in the room for weeks. When I decided to cancel the room because of the lack of cleanliness and me and my girlfriend not feeling safe there the man at the front desk told me he couldn’t refund my money because I was over my 15 grace period, at that point I didn’t care, I just wanted out, I told him I’ll take it up with management and whyndham hotels. I decided to stay at the Quality Inn down the road and was sooooo much better! Worth the extra $20 I paid. I talked to the hotel company and they said they’d get back to me about the refund, unfortunately I had to talk to management again about getting it. When I finally got a hold of the general manager (her name is Atlanta) I explained what happened and she was extremely rude, she refunded my money but had a terrible attitude about it AND she hung up on me when she felt like she was done with me. Very unprofessional! Listen to your customers and the many reviews that have many things in common. The place is a DUMP and I do not recommend anyone even try and stay there. Pay the extra $20 and stay at the Quality Inn down the road, you’ll thank me.
PS. I filed a formal complaint about this hotel to the company and recommend anyone that has also had a bad experience to do the same. This place should not be up...
Read moreSept. 30, 2021. Judging from past reviews, this place has really improved. This Microtel is now a brand new hotel inside and out. Even the parking lot is new. This is definitely, hands down the best Wyndham hotel we have ever stayed in over the last 11 years as Wyndham Rewards members. And we have stayed in many. We always try to book with the points and some cash reservations. Fifi and Frisnel were working that night. Both were extremely nice. Lobby was crowded that evening checking in because there was a lot of ESPN Game Day crew checking in for the Georgia Bulldogs game on Saturday. I think most of them didn't have reservations, but FiFi did a great job of checking them in quickly. Our room was spotless, as you might expect from a new renovation. So new in fact that we didn't have a fridge or coffee maker. One of the ESPN guys said they were told they could put their food in the hotel fridge, and Fifi and Frisnel had the coffee and breakfast set up by the time we went down at 5:20am. I'm sure they are getting that stuff in, but if it is really important to you, I would call ahead to make sure. But I give them 5 stars even without those things. Even with the ESPN game day crew and military personnel staying there, it was very quiet. I was worried about the possibility of noise into the night. Frisnel told me he was working all night, and if I had any problems, just give a call to the office, and he would address it. After I post this review, I am posting a review for the Days Inn we stayed in on our way down to Florida. That review will be 1 star. So we are very thankful for...
