(2/29/20, from my Yelp remarks)
Despite the look of the hotel, it turns out this place was less coliseum and more UFO - the shameless lack of upkeep was fascinating, the foodservice was curiously dreadful, and the only redeeming factor of the room was that it didn't collapse on us. Given my limited space in this review, I will take care to thank the front desk staff and shuttle service for being great. The one shining star I do have to give is theirs.
After checking in at 2:05 PM, we made a beeline to Creeks restaurant/lounge, located in the hotel atrium. As we hadn't eaten since breakfast, our energy was low and our appetites high. Much to my surprise, only one person was on staff. This older gentleman was manning the bar, taking orders, and busing tables - too much work for one person. My girlfriend ordered the venison sliders, and I got the Del Rio Club; both of us got sides of fries and sodas with our meals. Then we waited...and waited.
Our meal did not arrive until 2:45 P.M. My sandwich was mediocre at best; it was the girlfriend's meal that was actually a cause for concern. The venison was undercooked in the center: a deep, squishy red surrounded by a wall of brown meat. The deer had may as well been alive, or at least not at 165 degrees internal temperature. It was disgusting, and much of the meal was left uneaten.
I am sympathetic that our server was working alone; he should not have been. Nevertheless, our dining experience and meal quality was unacceptable.
[later in the evening]
After an afternoon of revelry among friends, the GF and I returned to the lounge. With lunch service as bad as it was, perhaps after-dinner service would be better. We had some work to do, so we thought we'd pair the evening with a fresh pot of decaf coffee.
Behold, the lounge was staffed by only one person again - a younger man who was at the bar taking orders. We asked for coffee; he presented a counteroffer of decaf Americanos. We were not pleased, but we accepted. Shortly afterwards, the gentleman reported that their espresso machine was "down", and that he'd work on "figuring it out", like a math equation. Whatever plan he had in mind did not succeed; our verdict: no coffee.
Now, the Creeks menu does offer, for $6, a pot of "fresh coffee", including the decaf we requested. Seeing as we were at the lounge, I thought if we moseyed to the adjacent restaurant, perhaps we could get our coffee there. However, we observed that same barman sprinting - actually sprinting - to and from the restaurant quite often. It seemed both the restaurant and lounge were tag-teaming (poorly), so we deduced that there were no options for coffee available to us. Maybe we were wrong, in which case the man should have said, "I don't have coffee here, but if you go to the restaurant, they'll serve you." We will never truly know where, in this impression of a hotel, the coffee was located.
After an hour of work, we opted to quench our thirst with some water. I went to the bar, where our sole server was telling football stories to the patrons enjoying their beers. The appropriate thing to do, in his position, would be pausing the story to take my order. Although I was in plain sight, he continued his story for several more minutes as I waited. I was unimpressed by his lack of courtesy (also, his story was odiously boring).
A note about the upkeep. Strewn about the atrium was the same garbage for the duration of our stay: trays with empty cups, beer glasses, and used napkins.
Finally, the room: stuffy, odd-smelling, complete with a rogue thermostat. I woke in the middle of the night damp with sweat; somehow our room managed to grow stuffier and odder-smelling, and the thermostat was dispensing hot air. It was a dreadful night's sleep before an early-morning flight.
In summary, this hotel was unforgettably awful, and we shall not return. $166 poorly spent. In the future, we'll plan on staying at a cleaner place with a functional...
Read moreDon't use for conferences or events!! You can get a better deal at other hotels in Austin. I've run/help run a clinic here for 20 years so I know what things at hotels cost and everything there was overpriced. We paid $7300 for burnt, middle school quality pizza for one conference social for 250 people. Last hotel we did the same exact pizza social and it was $862 and was better (and non burnt) pizza. Was like that for pretty much everything. Last hotel, our same conference for 300 people was $16K less for way better quality. Was the Hilton $16k better in any way? Not at all. And when we signed with the Hilton the said they would be able to match most everything we did at the previous hotel which is why we signed with them. Right after we signed there was turnover at the hotel and they hired new people that were still learning so not a great experience. I had to keep reaching out them to get things done and they still didn't get food finalized until the week before the event. I've worked with other event coordinators in the past and at the Hilton they were the least on top of it than anyone I've worked with.
Also know that the restaurant in the hotel closes for lunch and Doordash doesn't deliver there so if you are staying on site for a conference you will have to leave and drive 10-15 minutes each way to get lunch every day. Not very convenient if you have presentations going on all day. Seem like if they knew a large party was coming in they would have opened up for lunch since they were open for breakfast and dinner. Might be good to mention to people hosting events that everyone will have to leave to get lunch so they'll plan a 2 hour break everyday to give people enough time to leave, eat and come back.
Other issues we had: -Wifi barely works in conference area so we all ended up using our personal hotspots -Our workers were supposed to get free parking and had free parking passes they showed at the front desk but they still made them pay for parking when checked out. -Specifically told the coordinator 30 minutes before a social to not serve people food/drinks until the official start time as people were still in meetings but they went ahead and started serving 20 minutes early which messed up our timing and margaritas were already gone before the event's start time when the people that were in meetings started showing up. -Was supposed to get 2 VIP welcome trays per our contract which were supposed to go to the president and vice president, they sent one to the wrong person and the president noticed and asked about it which put me in a bad position. Told the front desk about the mistake and they said they would look into it and get back to me but they never got back to me.
Pros: Rooms are very nice and spacious, Lobby is really nice with a large area. The guys who run the events are on top of it and were very attentive anytime you need anything. Hope they go to work at whatever hotel we move to next year as we will not see them if they are the Hilton next year.
Before you sign with them to host your event, have your food contract done at the same time. Don't believe they will match anything until you have it in writing. Whoever promises you something may not be there a couple weeks later. I was asking to settle food contract for months but we didn't get our food contract until 8 days before the event so very little time to make adjustments and zero time to change to somewhere else.
If you need a place to stay the night before a flight, the hotel is probably fine. But if you need a place to host a conference, look...
Read moreStay period : 05/06/2022 to 05/07/2022 reservation number That's what happened:1 - I checked in, and imediatelly went to my room, got undressed and turn the shower on...but there was no bath soap.I had to go to the front desk to pick up a soap2 - The electronic parking gate has a complicated system in which one has to scan two papers. One card that you get from the automatic gate when you enter the parking lot, and another one with a QR code given to you when you check in by the front desk girl. That, could even be ok, but the system was out of order for the entire day and nobody has warned us. So I had to, go back to the parking lot and go to the front desk again and ask the attendant to open it for me. Why didn't I call for help from the gate? Because it happened at night and there was no light to show me what to do with a broken gate machine!!!!3- At 11 PM I got to the lobby and all the bars and restaurants were closed. OK! So, I went to my room and asked for room service. For my surprise they don't have room service after 11. Imagine you, arriving from a flight after 11PM and hungry and thirsty, and inside an airport lonely and far from any restaurant area...NOTHING!!! NOBODY to serve you even a sandwich. Yes!!! That's HILTON Hospitality!!!!!!4 - I realized it when I called room service trying to get a corkscrew. Their line rang rang and rang, until the calling was automatically transfered to the (guess who?) the front desk. So I asked her for a corkscrew. She told me that she would try to get me one. I waited for 30 minutes an decided to call her back. And for my surprise nobody attended to the call. I tried again and the same...nobody there!5 - I went to the Ice machine that was near my room...and it was broken also. I got to walk thru the other side of the building to get some ice.6 - Next morning we went to the breakfast. (No, it hasn't ended) At the breakfast, there was only one hotel worker to seat people, serve them and clean the table at the same time.We ordered toast, scrambled eggs, sausage an fried potatoes, coffe and orange juice. She served me and said that my wife's toasts were comming soon. Unfortunatelly the toasts didn't come. (not her fault, she was doing the job of 4 or 5 people)And as a GRAND FINALE (Only for the breakfast, there's still more) , I asked for sugar and she told me that they had ran out of it. Period!!!!! Yes I'm not kidding...ABSOLUTELLY NO SUGAR IN A BREAKFAST SALOON IN A HILTON HOTEL. 7 - To finish this terrible adventure, my wife stepped in a puddle of feces (PHOTO ATTACHED) in front of the parking lot door. I went again to the front desk to warn the people of what has happened. They thank me to be warning them...No apologies at all.And that's It.HILTON AND NONE OF THEIR GROUP NEVER MORE!!!!!!...EVER!!!!!!!SHAME ON YOU HILTON AUSTIN AIRPORT!!!!...
