We visited Lost Pines October 12-15. We experienced multiple issues while visiting Lost Pines. This was our first visit here but decided to try it after having multiple wonderful experience at Hyatt Hill Country in San Antonio. We did not have hot water in our shower in the room which we discovered the first night we were there. We reported it to the front desk multiple times throughout the stay and were repeatedly told that someone would come work on it. We were given a different room, on a different floor to shower in one of the days we were there. No one ever came to our room to look at the shower or fix it. While we were at the hotel there was burst pipe at the hotel that caused both the pool and spa to be shut down and my spa appointment to be canceled. While I realize this is something that is completely outside of the control of the hotel staff, it didn't feel like they were doing anything to provide replacement entertainment or options for kid activities in the afternoons when it was 98+ degrees. We ended up spending several hundred dollars in the arcade at the hotel, along with a ton of other families it seemed, because we ran out of ways to entertain our kids. They could have shown a movie somewhere inside, they could have given kids game cards to the arcade, they could have arranged indoor games. The reason that we go to resorts like this, and pay the premium pricing, is to actually have a vacation where we get the chance to relax and there are fun activities for our kids to do without us having to provide the entertainment. Ultimately, that was not the case for this vacation and in my opinion the cost and use of points for this stay was not supported by the experience. The most shocking thing that happened while we were at the hotel was that my engagement ring, wedding and anniversary bands were taken from my nightstand on Monday 10/14 while we were still on property that morning playing games with our kids and taking them to meet animals. We immediately reported this to the front desk, but again felt like there was little sense of urgency related to the issue. No one ever came to our room for me to explain exactly where the rings were, why I knew that is where they were, or understand the full issue. I did receive a call from Lauren, the manager of the cleaning crew where she asked for pictures of the rings to be sent via text, and explained that they had asked the crew that cleaned the room and they said they "threw away a coke can" but there was nothing else there. Oddly, there were no coke cans of any kind in the room where the rings were (the bedroom) but there was an empty protein drink carton on the same nightstand and it was still present when we returned. She assured me they were searching the trash. I received a call from hotel security where they asked me the same questions about timelines and where the rings were and if I was sure, but again, no one came to the room so I could show them exactly where they were and explain why they couldn't have accidentally been knocked off or thrown away. Ultimately, I filed a report with the Bastrop county Sheriff's office. Unfortunately, the hotel will no longer talk to me regarding the missing rings as they said I need to deal directly with the Sheriff's office for information, but the hotel is not responding to the requests form the Sheriff's office. I understand hesitancy on the hotel's part, to blame an employee; however, they have shown absolutely zero concern or desire to help the Sheriff's office in obtaining information. Additionally, it appears the cleaning staff is contracted out and are not direct Hyatt employees. I'm unclear on next steps and am just praying that my rings magically reappear in lost and found at the hotel. In addition to the monetary value lost, they have invaluable sentimental meaning to me and my husband and represent so much hard work and dedication to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and I (wife, 3-year-old, 5-year-old) stayed here for the first time August 2023. Our stay was for 3 nights. We had heard so many great things about this place from friends and coworkers, but that must have all been a time long past.
The staff were very courteous and friendly. I don't blame them at all for any of the forthcoming issues. This is a management issue, as I feel the staff are doing the best they can with what they have.
The base rate had us at a 3-night stay for $1780. Keep in mind that is just the base rate, for the room only. We did not get a top tier room. This price is for a regular room with 2 queen beds.
The room itself is ok. Nothing special, couch with a large red stain on the cushion, sink that doesnāt drain well, usual things one would find at a $90 a night Holiday Inn. When I remind myself this is a $600 a night room, well thatās kind of disappointing.
Now the pool, which seems to be the crown jewel according to many, is a huge disappointment. I have been to Homewood Suites that have better maintained pools than this place. The pool itself is dirty, not well maintained. The lazy river is full of leaves, rocks, and bugs. The trashcans are literally overflowing around the entire pool area, which is attracting bees, which are everywhere. One got caught in my daughters hair! There are empty cups, cans, plates everywhere. There is food on the ground around the entire pool deck people are literally walking in it. This was basically the case all 3 days we were there. Very disappointing.
When booking a room for $600/night, one would expect a certain baseline level of inclusions with this. Not at this 'resort'. They charge a daily resort fee (to be fair other resorts do as well), but they nickel and dime you literally every chance they get. Daily self-parking, $18. You want to sit in the shade by the pool, guess what? You need to reserve (i.e. pay) for that as it is a 'prime' location. Want a cabana? Pay up (even though they were all sitting empty). There seem to be more 'private' locations around the pool one must pay for than are available for public use.
They offer many daily activities as well, but the fees are just ridiculously high. One could literally go broke with one activity a day at this place.
The food was subpar and extremely expensive. Nothing spectacular, but youāre still charged for the āresortā restaurant experience. Oh yeah, the website will boast 8 different restaurant options. One is a gift shop that serves coffee and premade sandwiches. Hardly counts as a restaurant. Of the remaining 7, only one is open for breakfast. 2 are open for lunch, including the poolside restaurant. We tried that, once. The food was largely inedible, we threw most of it out as the chicken and burger did not even taste fully cooked. As for dinner, there are really only 2 options for someone with kids (which is odd given this is a āfamilyā resort). One has a $50 per person buffet, and the other serves overpriced bar food. So be prepared to have less food options than stated if you have children. They offer bikes and helmets as part of the āresort feeā. There were quite a lot of bikes and helmets to choose from, but not one was in good shape. Every bike we checked had nearly flat tires. The seats were ripped, handlebars broken, my 3-year-old had one with training wheels, and one of them nearly fell off during the ride as the nut was loose! I hand-tightened as best I could every few minutes until we returned to the bike racks. And the helmetsā¦most had broken straps and were not usable. So, one of the few amenities covered under the āresort feeā was pretty much a bust.
We left feeling underwhelmed and will not be returning. The experience just did not seem worth it for the price they charge per room, and all the associated fees,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFully met expectations. I almost didn't stay here because of a few bad reviews left around the time of my stay, but I'm so glad I came anyway. This is a clean, well maintained 4-star hotel that is exactly what it claims to be. My family of 5 stayed 2 nights because we were in town for a concert. I think the people leaving bad reviews either had a random bad encounter with staff, or they don't normally travel to places like this.
Hotel rating: Lost Pines is a rock solid 4-star hotel that deserves its rating. I don't come to Austin often, so I don't have local comparisons. Here are 4 Texas locations similar to this category. #1 Great Wolf Lodge near Dallas is a great 3-star hotel, but it is not as nice as Lost Pines; it has a 3-star rating for a reason. #2 Lost Pines is nicer than Marriott Hill Country near San Antonio, which is an underperforming 4-star hotel (not well maintained and not that clean). #3 The Gaylord Texan near Dallas is an overperforming 4-star hotel. I've stayed there 5 times, and my expectations are exceeded every time (even though they are stingy with upgrades). If the Gaylord Texan was in Austin, I would have to choose it over Lost Pines. #4 La Cantera resort near San Antonio is a beautiful place that should have a 5-star rating. The design inside and out, the quality of the building materials, and the views just make it better than any other place on this list.
The daily resort fee is $46, and self parking is $18 per night plus tax.
Restaurants: We only ate one meal on site, and it was breakfast. It fully met expectations. Staff was friendly. The place was clean. The buffet selection was adequate. The food was good. Our drinks were never empty. My family ate for $106 before tip (only 4 were charged because my youngest was small enough to eat for free). If you think that is expensive, you don't travel to places like this very much. I'm not saying I like overpaying for meals, I'm just saying the pricing is exactly what you are going to see at any other place like this. Because I don't like overpaying for food, we ate the rest of our meals elsewhere. We ate here to use the $100 property credit from the American Express travel program.
Pool: The pool was clean enough. With all the trees, there are going to be some leaves in the water by the end of the day. The kids loved the single slide and lazy river. I couldn't get the hot tub to turn on. There were no employees around, but it was one hour before closing by the time I tried to use it, and there was only one other family out there with us by then. I get it.
Location: I don't understand the complaints about the location. I don't think you are going to find a sprawling 400-acre resort in downtown Austin. Are there people who don't use maps when they travel? Maybe they came because of a convention, but wouldn't the complaint be with the convention organizer instead of the hotel? If you are flying into town and get an Uber to a place like this, you should do enough research to know if that is something you really want to do. I wouldn't do it. You need a vehicle if you come here. It is about a 35-minute drive to downtown Austin.
Regarding upgrades: I try to plan stays in the middle of the week during the summer in the hopes of an upgrade via either the loyalty/points program or the American Express travel program. You can tell how busy a place is by just hanging around. If they aren't busy, there should be upgrades available. Some places will lie and tell you no upgrades are available, or they will say you have been upgraded when all they did was give you the same room in a different location in the hotel. This place obviously had availability and gave me a real upgrade to a suite, which I greatly...
