Shellers Barrelhouse Bar — Restaurant in Texas

I haven't been here in quite a few years, but wanted to take a friend to a nice relaxing lunch the Firewheel Cafe, only to find out that they do not do lunch anymore. So we went to the alternative, the Barrelhouse Bar. I will state right up front that the food was excellent. The brisket sandwich was delicious and the french fries are some of the best I've ever had. Desserts were good also, coffee was excellent. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. We were seated for about 10 minutes before anyone said a word to us. Drinks; ice tea and coffee, took another 10 minutes. My coffee was served to me in a GO CUP. A GO CUP! I had to ask for a real cup. I had to ask again for sugar and again for a spoon when she did not bring one with the coffee cup. And finally, no pen came with the check; I had to go to the bar to ask for a pen. Do they not teach servers the nuances of "serving" anymore? Pleased with the food, very disappointed in...

The bar staff is generally miserable without any customer interaction or acknowledgement and that's the cornerstone of any barkeep tending the wood. The ambiance seems welcoming, I recommend getting table staff, I believe they'd be a lot more attentive. My experience was, I sat at the barwood with 4 other patrons and one table in the restaurant, hardly a busy evening. Not even a hello, welcome or eye contact for a solid two minutes before...

Wait staff was wonderful! The queso, kids grilled z & wings were great...BUT, the brisket sandwich was HORRIBLE! There was some sort of spice all over it that made it spicy, sour and unappetizing (and I love spicy). Also, the buffalo sauce did not taste good (luckily, the bartender recommended it on the side).
