Now I can say I've stayed in every single motel in Big Pine! Wow, what an accomplishment! Haha, but seriously, there are only three in the whole town, so...||||Of the 3, I think I like this one the best. Starlight is close, but this one seems to be quieter in terms of road noise. Bristlecone is kind of a dive, though I didn't have a bad experience, necessarily. I like the cinder block construction of this motel. Keeps it a bit cooler in the extreme heat of the day, and is much quieter than normal construction. The bathroom was pretty small, but the vanity/sink was not in the enclosed bathroom space, so it felt bigger. The shower is tiny, but it's pretty much the same in all these motels. The room was clean for the most part, nothing untoward that made me cringe. The bed was very hard, with a sag in the middle, which is my only major complaint. The AC unit worked, but when it was 100ºF plus outside, it struggled to produce cool air. I noticed this was also true of the AC unit in my car, however. So I wondered if past a certain temp, they don't work really well. ||||The room had supplies of facial soap and a small bottle of shampoo, which was good enough for me to take a shower. There's also a tiny fridge, which I put my water bottles in. ||||The door has 3 locks. I didn't feel unsafe generally in this area. Big Pine seems like a sleepy, one-horse town. Maybe because it was boiling hot outside.||||SERVICE: The reception desk lady, who I assume is also the owner, is very warm and friendly. A big asset to this establishment.||||VERDICT: I could've stayed in a nicer place in Bishop, but in the end, I'm glad I picked this motel. It was comfortable enough. Plus, it shaved off a few minutes of drive to the forest and I also saved a good chunk of money...
