To start I contacted them in April I on messenger. I was immediately responded to. The original person I spoke to said let her know she would quote me a price for a large group and help me with the best place to camp closer to time. Then the end of June beginning of july I tried many times to contact them same way with no response for almost a week with me trying over and over. When I called the girl couldn't answer any questions I had and gave me outlandish prices. It was too late to book anywhere else so I had to pay. I did try online but it would let me kept saying they were full. So I paid an outrageous price for 2 campsites to get there and find nothing of what the pictures showed. When I called about details before the trip the lady on the phone couldn't tell us anything she didn't know she didn't know she didn't know. Although we were on the river the grass was grown up there is nowhere to park without worrying about your car getting hit or taking up camp space. There was 2 picnic table for 3 sites and one fire pit ring that the guy told us we could use until the new campers came the next day. So we had a very rocky small tall grass camping spot that people walked thru to get to the river that after we put up tents and parked our 2 trucks and 2 cars there wasn't room for us or chairs. I told them how many and I asked for a spot to accommodate. there was no information for where to put trash so 2 days trash in the heat made for a fly infestation. And when we found the dumpster it was so full and over flowing we decided to just take it with us. The mess around the dumpster hasn't been maintained for some days you could tell there were maggots on the bags everywhere. There was nothing about showers and when we did finally find them they were either locked or gross. We camp every year and don't expect 5 star hotel experiences but this was not cleaned for a while. The bathrooms were mostly out of order and the ones that weren't were dirty even late at night and had no toilet paper Port a potties were well let's just say we're full. The brush was grown up around the stairs to the front and was dark dark dark at night. So unless you knew to take a flashlight then u just hoped for the best. It says family friendly and kids too so I took my kids and grandkids one which drove 6 hours to have a horrible stay. The young ones needed bathrooms in the middle of the night but we're to scared to walk there. The float trip I waited almost 35 mins for my raft to show and when it did it was tossed off the top of the van trailer and the seats that are supposed to be glued to them or attached came flying out to the ground. Then half way thru the supposed posted sign trip, btw we saw one that said 100 yards that is more like 300 yds to the pick up , the raft started to deflate and take on water, The seat kept coming loose rolling in the raft and it made it impossible to row. When I informed the workers at the end they dismissed it and tossed it on the top with others they didn't mark it or tag it. The oars were bent and defiantly not checked over for cracks or wear and tear. Not to mention it was like sorting thru the salvation army bin to find a life jacket for the kids that wasn't worn or tore. And then they didn't say at the beginning or the end we would have to walk down another trail to call for a ride. We walked around aimlessly till we found a sign that said to do so. Needless to say I went there cuz it was highly recommended! I'm sure it was once a great place but the new owners need to par up. You are ruining the old owners reputation and if you can't give it a new name at least! So I paid $668.00 for a horrible weekend that even with the heat should have been a family reunion. I'm very upset with this it. I only get my children together 2 times a year and we didn't get to spend anytime together because of this. It was a spent trying to organize a small space to gather & visit. Other than that my family and other campers were friendly and it was...
Read more2 friends and I booked a Friday to Monday stay at a riverside campsite (site #11). We arrived to find a huge pile of trash on our site that appeared to have been there for a while. Animals had chewed holes in the bag and it smelled terrible. I found this strange since they require a $10 trash deposit fee at check in. We reported this to the office and the staff did come immediately and remove the trash which was appreciated. Friday night the campground "on site manager" made his rounds on the golf cart and said if we had any problems after hours to call or text his cell. He noted the gate to the campground was locked at 11 and if for any reason we needed to get in or out after that time let him know. He did agree to leave it open til 12 Friday night for one of our group who was arriving later. Saturday afternoon the problems started. A very large group of people set up on the adjacent site. They were rowdy and loud and already drinking heavily at 2pm. They walked back and forth through our campsite to get to the river and we had to tell them to walk around and not under our hammocks, which they did. That night they continued to party and got louder by the hour. There was a fight between a few of them and punches were thrown. Unfortunately after quiet hours they did not settle down even though we asked them to several times. By 3:30am they were still going strong and I confronted them. They did not stop and another fight broke out. I attempted to call the on-site manager but he did not respond to texts or phone calls so we were stuck listening to these derelicts all night. The next day we decided to cancel our tubing trip and go back home. The site manager texted me back and apologized that he did not hear his phone. The staff at the office was apologetic and did immediately refund the entire trip costs, which I did appreciate. I would not recommend camping here unless some changes are made. The person responsible for managing the campsite after-hours needs to be awake and responsive overnight, not asleep in his apartment. The fights could have ended with injury, not to mention the entire campground was subjected to a group of people who had total disregard for those around them. The locked gate is a safety issue too if access to emergency care is needed. I cannot review the canoe/kayak/tubing adventure as after this miserable night of camping we...
Read moreI've been here a few times and honestly, i've never had a problem. I recommend reserving a slot ahead of time as you'll save a little bit of money. And the Old Time canoes are the way to go, and easier to handle.
It's under $40 a couple to canoe here. You can pack and take a cooler and whatever else you want with you. It has its perks to going here rather than Ohio (wink wink, nudge nudge). The river really depends on the weather. During dry periods you may need to get out and kind of lift you're canoe over the low areas, but it's pretty simple to do. And after a rain storm you might encounter a few more "rapids" than normal.
They make sure they brief you on trouble spots before you go out, and tell you where to look for arrows that will point you in the right direction of which way to stay of an obstacle. There are also big yellow mile markers on the banks in the trees, so you know how much farther you have to go (roughly). There are lots of banks and islands to pull off on and have a picnic or get in the water. Some places the current can be a little strong so use you're judgement. There is an area with a rope swing that is at a pretty surprisingly deep part of the river, that I've never seen anyone have issues with. But use your judgement and be smart. Play at your own risk.
They have a huge sign on a hill that warns you you're stop is coming up. Just pull off, unload, and take care of things. You leave your canoe on the beach. Paddles and life vests go to the trailer and there's a dumpster for trash and a bin for can recycling. Follow the path up behind the trailer and there's an area with benches and a port a pot (use at your own risk) and to the left there's a building with a phone that will connect you to the center and signal for a ride. a bus is normally around within 20 minutes tops, and you're in the shade so it's not bad.
There is camping available on site but haven't tried that out yet. The restrooms have changing areas, but I've only ever found one outdoor shower spicket. They will keep your keys at the desk before you go out, so be prepared. 1. no danger of losing them and 2. they know if you're still out. And if Mr. Morgan is around say hi! He really is awesome and enjoys talking to people. All the staff are pretty decent for the...
