5 experiences, 4 bad. I visited the general store, took a trail ride, had 2 showers at the bathhouse, and did laundry. The only good experience was the trail ride. 4 stars. Unfortunately, everything else (and everyone else) was awful. RUBY'S seems to be (by their own account) a family who settled the area and has a pretty solid lock on business near the park entrance. Camping. Store. Recreation, etc. If you like a little, Hello? How are you? Please, Thank You or Have a nice day, RUBY'S is not the place for you. The staff is a sour bunch. You could chalk that up to one person or one bad day, but everyone (except the trail ride staff) was preoccupied, frowning, and curt. The unhappiness felt... systemic. The campground desk staff (awful) handles the check-ins, laundry, and shower, so there is a wait, even if you just need quarters or a restroom (which has to be opened with a code). On my first shower, I arrived at 1230. The showers ARE CLOSED from 130 to 3 daily for cleaning. This seems like a terrible time to clean, as it's when a lot of morning hikers are in need of a shower, but okay. I waited in line 15 minutes to pay, and the girl behind the counter asked me to WAIT UNTIL 3 TO TAKE THE SHOWER because it was now 1245, and if I stayed in the shower until 130, "she'd get yelled at." I had to convince her I'd be quick. I had to convince her to allow me to pay for their service. Speaking of quick showers, I went back again 2 days later. I got there at 250 and bought a couple of groceries and another shower (because remember, the shower is closed every day until 3). After I paid, the staff argued over how I would gain access. Should I come back? Did I need a receipt? Who's job was it anyway? We don't give out the code. You would think their grungy little showers held the nuclear codes. [RUBYS: get a self-serve shower pay station. Stop worrying about getting scammed. You'll save more money in staff redundancies.] Finally, a staffer said, "Go on, it should be open about now," without looking up. I walk over, and 2 different staffers are hanging by the shower door. I couldn't get in, I asked for help, and they looked ... legitimately irritated. Then, you guessed it, they said I needed a receipt. FML. I finally get into 90s, dank, dark little shower, and again, you guessed it ... NO HOT WATER. FML. I redressed, packed up, and went to another stall, which worked. I didn't bother reporting it. They know and don't care. Remember that shower had just been cleaned with ice cold water. They know and don't care. As for the laundromat, it was okay, except one of my three dryers ended up breaking DURING the load. The staff was so busy I gave up, moved my wet clothes, and paid again. If you like machines that work, hot showers, or a well managed staff, RUBY'S is not the place for you. So, overall? I do not recommend. And here's the rub - I'm a travel writer literally doing a piece on RV travel into Bryce and the editor of an RV travel map. They could have gotten so much business from that. Instead, I leave my...
Read moreWe stayed here in August of 2021 for a week. We enjoyed our stay and the campground overall. The site we stayed in was large, which is good since our truck and fifth wheel is 65 ft. connected, and 80 ft. fully deployed with the patio down. At our size, I immediately noticed a red flag when pulling in: the "check-in lanes" were definitely not designed for big rigs, if we had pulled into those and attempted to make the turn onto the interior road, with trees and a building as obstacles, it would have been very tight and we would have been forced to pivot 90 degrees, so not good. The young girls in the office said "we've never had a problem" despite obvious visible damage from RVs on the building itself and on the trees, so clearly that statement was false. They really need to have a semi come drive all through the park, and all the "big rig" sites, and tell them what to trim and what trees to take out, to ensure there is enough room for all RVs. The pine limbs in our site were rubbing our roof and AC units, so they needed to be trimmed. Some of the tent campers were a bit rowdy and loud and their dogs were running around off leash for days. All of that said, the campground has a nice atmosphere, what looks like a nice pool, though since it was cool outside, we used the indoor pool in the hotel instead, so it's great that is included. The smell of pine trees is nice, though that's obviously balanced by the sap dripping on your rig, so that's neither a positive or negative, it is what it is. The picnic tables and fire pits were a nice touch. Power and water worked great, as did sewer but the sewer connection was elevated so you will definitely need something to elevate your sewer line. Overall, we were satisfied, but for the very high rates charged here, there should be greater attention paid to details to keep everything in the best condition and ensure there is enough space for all rigs...
Read moreYou staff charged me $50 to fill a water tank, while advertised price is $10. I called 3 times before my arrival to confirm the price. Every time I told them that my 5th wheel takes 150 gallons of water. Every time I was told $10 per fill up regardless of volume.
I first stopped at the Pines campground to take on water. It was closer to our camping spot which we changed due to wildfire in the area. They also promised a $10 fill up for 150 gallons on the phone. When I got there, they told me they will have to charge me $40. I told them I'm buying $150 worth of fuel from them. They reduced the price to $35. I told them to forget it and that I would drive to Ruby's to take on water there for the promised $10. It's a principal thing.
When I got to Ruby's, Jone was on the phone with Pines Campground/gas station. They told her to expect me, and to not sell me water for $10. I could tell, because she was saying: "...yep, he just walked in...OK," hung up and informed me that she was warned that I was coming and that the price for me is $50. She said that she confirmed it with the owner - some kid who was sitting in a side room playing on his phone.
You cornered the water market that day. Congrats!
And this is considering that I have been a guest of Ryby's Campground in the past and stayed there multiple times, for multiple days each. I warned the staff that I post my RV adventures on YouTube and people will know about this encounter. "Have a nice day, Sir" was their reply. I was only able to take on 100 gallons as your dump/fill station is not level and water started pouring out of overflow valve before the tank was full. After I got home, as always, I posted a video of our trip on my YouTube channel, detailing my experience at Ruby's. So far in one week 155,000 people saw the video. I will continue to remind my viewers about ethics of staff at Ruby's campground. I hope it was worth...
