First I'd like to say Mary in house keeping is such a sweetheart. She has a true calling for customer service. Too bad the rest of the staff didn't follow suit. I can't speak for the entire staff but for Sarah and the night time receptionist I can say they really need to reconsider the type of employment they have chosen. We are the type of people who like to be left alone when traveling. They were persistent on coming into our room for house keeping just after the 1st night of our stay. At one point and time they tried bargging in without knocking. They weren't successful due to the inside lock being latched. We decided to extend our stay and that's when Sarah the receptionist was unreasonably rude to us. She was insisting that we move to another room. Sarah had told us our room was already booked by someone else. We told her that it makes no sense for us to pack all of our belongings move to another room and then unpack everything again. Unwillingly she finally agreed but not until after our friend (who we were visiting) called and returned the same attitude to her. All the huffing and puffing unexceptable. After all this we discovered our room keys were deactivated. I go downstairs to have them reactivate our key and also get information on the spa next door. While activating the key card she tells me she had a list but to give her a second to find it. I told her to go ahead and help the lady behind me. As she finishes helping that lady a few more people walk in and the receptionist starts to help them. A 2nd lady came to the desk and started helping others. I stepped back thinking once she wasn't busy I'd get that list. But no she kept her head down avoiding eye contact with me. I found the spa's services online and went back to my room. Later I went to the spa and when I came back my husband informed me he was holding our room door so it wouldn't slam behind him and he got white paint on his sleeve. The staff was repainting doors and had no signs and didn't give out any warning. I go to the front desk extremely upset. I ask the receptionist (not Sarah) what can be done about this paint. She throws her arms up and says "Hold on, wait a minute what room number are you in?" I tell her and she then gets the general manager Rob Sipel. He comes out and asks me when this happened. I told him that I'm not exactly sure why it matters on when but I was just told about it cause I've been next door at the spa. He fumbles on his words and then offers dry cleaning. I asked him when should I expect this coat back and he tells me tomorrow. Now it's 8pm on a Friday I was curious to see if this jacket would be returned to us on Saturday in a timely manner. Saturday came and a little after 1pm I call down to the front desk and ask about the jacket. The same receptionist that threw her arms up is who I'm speaking with. She tells me well I was here when you came down with the jacket so what day are you checking out. I told her tomorrow and she says we'll call you when it's done. I said well what is my husband going to do for tonight if it's not done. The weather was supposed to be cooling off and calling for snow. She tells me she will look into it. Come to find out the jacket was never sent out. They had a house keeping employee use some stuff they were hoping would remove the paint from the jacket. After a couple hours the jacket was returned to us still wet. This showed me how important it was to get this done. I don't care that they were lucky in getting the paint off the coat I'm upset that it took me asking about the jacket the next day and pretty much forcing their hand in getting this cleaned so my husband had a jacket. I've stayed with Hamptons many times in the past with never having issues. I've never had any issues with any hotel I've ever stayed at. But I will never stay at this hotel again. Unbelievably...
Read moreWe came up to PA for a friend's wedding and had a TERRIBLE first night stay at this hotel! Friday night, there was a DJ playing until 11:30PM at the neighboring (nearly connected) golf club for some Glow Golf event - I can only assuming it was for the special event and not every weekend. It was so loud and obnoxious, making it impossible to put our 2 year old to sleep. Dreading the exhausted toddler mood (and tired parents) the next day, I called the front desk asking when the DJ was supposed to end and they couldn't give me any information. Nor could they move us to a different room at the opposite side of the hotel (& noise).
I understand it is not the hotels "fault", but they should be aware of and prepare their customers for the sound disturbance they will be experiencing. They should have asked us if we were aware of the event and okay with the noise level. And good customer service would have offered to set us up on the opposite end of the hotel knowing we had a small child.
I paid to stay in a nice hotel to get a good nights rest, and we had anything but that. We would have made reservations elsewhere had we known. As a result we had a very rough weekend with a very grouchy and tired flowergirl. Very disappointed. Would have expected this out of a hip hotel/club in Miami, not the middle of PA next to a golf club & resort. As a loyal Hilton Honors customer, I would have expected more from a Hampton Inn.
I don't know whether the DJ was for this special Glow Golf event or a regular Friday night thing, so I recommend confirming in advance what events are going on and if there is any expected before making a reservation here.
Otherwise, service was OK. The staff wasn't very pleasant or courteous, but they weren't rude either. Just an Eh! experience out of a...
Read moreThis is the best place to stay in a very small and a bit remote part of PA. It was easy to find and close to the downtown area. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The front office staff were remarkably kind; as an example, I arrived after a nine hour car trip, and was in need of some decaf coffee. There was caffeinated coffee, several choices, but no decaf in the late afternoon. I asked at the desk if there might be decaf somewhere, and he immediately offered to make me some, which he did post haste. Very much appreciated. ||The room was clean and the TV got a remarkable number of stations, including Turner Classic Movies, which I have never seen on a hotel channel list. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was excellent, with strong water pressure, and while there was no fan in the bathroom the circulation was such that the mirror never steamed up. ||The breakfast was typical for Hampton, on the higher end. The dining tables were constantly being cleaned by staff during breakfast. Overall a very nice stay, quiet, pleasant surroundings, responsive staff and clean rooms with attractive amenities. I...
