I did some speaking in Cabool over a long weekend, and my host had lined up a room at this hotel for me. Typically, I stay in folks homes, as I have friends in many places and it’s often congregations that are hosting me, and there’s a bed to be found somewhere. But this time, they needed to arrange a hotel for several of my nights. The manager was very friendly, and we had several good conversations. The room was clean, the place was quiet. It was handily located within walking distance – a mile or less – have a couple of restaurants. ||||The price included a continental breakfast – With some fruit, pastries, Juice and coffee and instant oatmeal- and thank goodness some raisin bran, as all the other items were white flour and sugar basically, and I’m looking for a whole-grain whenever possible. Of course it was all served on Styrofoam – so I had to scrounge around and find some non-disposable cups and dishes in my own stuff to avoid generating more trash for beleaguered earth.|||| So all was well until the last day. Wanting to pitch in towards the cost—My host was a congregation, and I run a nonprofit, so neither of us are rolling in the cash – but I wanted to share the burden, so decided to pay for last night myself. The manager rearranged the bill, I handed her my credit card to pay for the last night, she printed out the bill for me to sign – $96! The first thing that went through my mind was: did she charge me for all three nights? But I didn’t say anything as I liked her and wanted to also be sure I wasn’t complaining inappropriately without taking a closer look at the bill back in my room. Sure enough, that seemed to be the price for one night – a quick web search ||found that I could’ve gotten it for $10 less online if I had reserved a day in advance. Plus I’m sure it wasn’t a high demand issue – best I could tell, there were one or two other rooms occupied on any of the nights I was there.||||This may not seem like a big bill to others, but for me in my line of work it seemed like a lot, and now I’m trying to figure out how I can make up for having spent that much for one nights lodging. ||||And then as I was leaving the next morning, I took my reused bowl out to get some raisin bran and they were out of milk. I rang the service bell - no response. Not a huge deal – and no use crying over spilled milk – if there had been some...
Read more08/27/2021 through 08/29/2021 My family stayed here for a last visit with my grandfather. Room was clean, beds were good. The entire area has "hard water", so be advised about the in-room coffeemaker and other ideas. Be aware that they count anyone over "11" as an adult for room bookings. This is not clear when booking on their site. Booking policies are on a separate link that must be clicked on when booking. That being said, given the area that this is in, this was a great hotel. Access is through the lobby and not direct to the rooms, but that worked out ok. Be aware that Cabool is a very small rural town. Do NOT expect anything to be open after 9pm. Walmart is 10 miles west and they close at 11. If you have a middle-of-the-night issue, your only bet is the Love's 12 miles east. This is NOT the hotel's fault, I mean, it's a small town after all. Again, for what it is, it's a great hotel. Not a lot of the more common amenities available in chain hotels or more populous areas, but still good for a couple of...
Read moreClean, Not a bad place to stay if you don't have anywhere else to go. I drove 30 miles to get here after being up 24 hours straight for work, all of the hotels were booked in West Plains. I checked the online price, with no discounts, and I was exhausted so I just called ahead, rather than typing in all of the information in my truck. After the 35 minute drive, I check in and look at the receipt, and it was almost $15 more than the undiscounted online price. On top of that, ABVI gives a veteran discount normally. I had handed her my VA card while checking in, no discount. Almost $95 for what should basically be a $50-$60 room, $60 is being generous, but the rooms are clean, and the lady at the desk was very sweet while she was over charging me. The bed was slightly more soft than the floor and the heat didn't work until morning. I kept cranking it during the night, nothing. The next morning it starts roasting at about time for check out. Next time, no matter how tired, I'm driving right...
