If I could give this hotel a zero I would. My wife and I got married in June and decided to go with Cambria Calabasas as our wedding room block. We were hesitant because they had just opened in December, but their Director of Sales assured us they were more than capable of handing our wedding room block. Over the magical weekend that was our wedding there was one area that was a complete disaster, our hotel experience. It is disappointing because it is a beautiful hotel, unfortunately, the hotel and team we're not ready to accommodate two large wedding blocks. In addition to the things outlined below our room's ac (and many other guests) was not working properly. We set our ac to 68 degrees but it never dropped below 78 degrees. Someone had to bring us a portable ac unit but then he didn't even set it up correctly where the hot air should be blowing out the window. Instead the hose was just pointing behind our couch blowing hot air into the room and my wife and I had to set it up correctly ourselves. In addition, while there was a heat wave, ac not working in the rooms properly, and the restaurant not serving refreshing beverages due to power outages, the pool was closed all of Thursday and Friday to the guest so they could not even enjoy the pool. I wasn't until Saturday (half way through our stay) that guests finally got to use the pool.
Thursday, June 9th Multiple power outages that lasted hours when our wedding guests were checking in so they were delayed in getting into their rooms after hours of traveling and being tired. We had many guest come from overseas.
Due to the team trying to deal with the power outages and handle check-ins with systems down, many of our guests did not receive their welcome bags.
Guests we're able to order food and drinks at the restaurant/patio. We felt extremely embarrassed and took it upon ourselves to order pizzas for our guests, which is not a cost we had budgeted for but felt obligated to take care of our guests. Then later once the food arrived and the hotel power return and the kitchen opened back up, some of the servers were rude when we said we didn't want to order any food because we already had some delivered.
Friday, June 10th Another power outage in the morning, which delayed our guests getting ready for the wedding.
Saturday, June 11th There was a bar mitzvah taking place in the restaurant and our guest could not even get waters or coffees from the bar
Sunday, June 12th Fire alarm went off at approximately 8:04am waking up many of our guests and young kids.
The entire weekend turned into one big joke with our guests constantly making cracks about "what else could go wrong at this hotel" and commenting on staff being rude. Many of the hotel staff had attitudes the entire weekend. Guests were clearly upset and rightfully so and it seemed Cambria employees took that personally. As someone who worked in the hospitality industry for years when guests are upset and asking for basic needs to be met hotel employees should not get upset back and instead should provide good customer service.
I would not recommend this hotel and do not plan to ever stay at a Cambria...
Read moreMixed experience… ended on a high note. But a spoiled mood night one due to very bad experience with their night staff personnel. ——
By the end of the stay, I was happy! Glycel, the front manager, helped me get a better room and plans to discipline the man who checked me in.
My arrival time brought me in later than expected and tired. I even called Cambria hotel twice to share that I would be late and also requested the book me into a quiet room. At my arrival, there was a confusing incident about an extra charge in addition to the 200 incidental hold which I already knew about. It was 30 dollars. I simply asked why it said 230 dollars instead of 200?!
The young man working had “an attitude” from the get go and said he didn’t make the rules. I kept say I understand this and I am not even disputing this but I do need to know what I am being charged. He went on and on never answering me then went on to check in the next person and told me to wait right there? I then overhear him explaining to the man checking in after me about a parking fee that was 15 a night!
I said “OH thats why!” When he came back over to me, I said oh ok so this makes sense since I am staying two nights and then you all charge 15 a night parking. I then asked why he didn't just explain that?
He then got a TERRIBLE ATTITUDE again and said “look I will just cancel your reservation and you can find another hotel”
!What? I actually was the one figuring out why a charge was there and was now satisfied with what the charge was and he perceived me as arguing the charge?? He then said it AGAIN and threatened to have me escorted out (for nothing!)
I really cannot understand how someone can escalate that quickly and what made him pick on me for simply asking details about my own credit card charges!
There ISNT MORE TO THE STORY THAT I AL LEAVING OUT. This is exactly what he said to me? All when I was just trying to analyze and understand what was going on.
I think it may have been an isolated situation. But it’s a sign that MORE TRAINING is needed for their NIGHT STAFF’s soft skills and communication with customer.
Good news, the front desk managers apologized many times thankfully and helped me get a new room and even “comped” parking as a courtesy apology. The hotel is beautiful. The stay was excellent other than that. Hard to shake , as I could have been left in a very...
