OMG where do I begin. Depak/sixpack was a pleasant and conversational. He did offer to cook breakfast. But that is where it ends. Based on the reviews in 2019, I did not expect much. And I did not get much. Had I been in a position to change hotels I would have, but my schedule was so tight, I could not afford the time to search for better accommodations.||||In the case of this hotel, not only is the owner willfully neglectful, but he does not care. If you stay here do so at your own risk.||I am a health and safety inspector so the following as been well documented.||||1) There was no hot water, I do not mean that it ran out, but it was non existent.||2) There were large gaps around the doors which allowed critters and bugs to enter the room at night.||3) The room had not be vacuumed in God only knows how long. I personally made sure that my feet had coverings. I am including a photo of the dirt on my socks from the dirty carpet.||4) The sofa was covered with stains, dirt, human hair, and had distinct odor.||5) The bed, well 1970s wants their pillows back ! The linens were worn out at best.... and then||5.1) under the circumstances, you can understand why I unmade the bed.... once the blanket (below) was removed, there was blood stains, not old ones .... fresh ones on the top sheet. LOL I called old depak and told him that I would like fresh sheets, he said "why?". LOL I told him there were blood stains on the sheets.... he said "which one?" WTF .. what do mean which one? He tried to give me 1 sheet, I explained that under the circumstances I did not trust his bed was clean.||5.2) I kept the "clean?" sheet and used it cover the sofa. He actually asked me why?||6) There was human hair on the blanket, so God (and depak) only knows when the last time it was washed.||7) There was filth and dirt on every surface from the remote control to the counters and appliances. Pictures included.||8) The tub/shower was an absolute freeking nightmare. The tub had soap scum ring around it. I mean one you could write your name in. Based on the reviews I came prepared for uncleanliness, but this was horrific. The pictures you will see will show the dirt running down the side of the tub. After cleaning the tub with disinfectant I realized that the drain did not properly work and the water backed up in to the tub...hence the soap ring. So imagine standing in the ankle deep water oozing from the drain in the tub.... oh no way! ||9) The pool had a green tinge to the sides and ring around the edge. I was without my water sample kit or I would have documented that too.||10) NO ICE !! Really?||11) No Coffee, that is just cheap ass.||||I spent 2 miserable nights in this hell hole. on the first night at 2 am, I woke to crickets crawling from out of the bath sink drain (which by the way was broken). It was like something for a horror movie. I stuffed Kleenex tissues in the drain, to try and keep them out. pictures included.||||An owner who does not provide a clean and sanitary hotel does not deserve (1*), Perhaps these folks who left (5 *) have a different tolerance to cleanliness or perhaps they were simply...
Read moreLike several people noted in other reviews, my wife (Mindah) and I stayed at Calipatria Inn without first reading reviews. I do not like to give bad reviews and really need to be compelled to do so.
Well, I am compelled now. I have travelled and stayed in many places as varied as South Sudan, Nepal, Tunisia, and Peru. Even in remote places in simple motels or inns, I've noted when an earnest effort has been made to keep a place clean.
This place was not clean. We checked into a room upstairs. The carpet was stained, did not look as though it had been vacuumed in a very long time. The mirror had a patina of dust. The couch in the room had stains. I made the mistake of opening the mini fridge which had dried brown stains in it. I went to ask the manager to come look at the fridge. He said it was dirty because I'd requested an upstairs room, that if I'd asked for a room downstairs, I'd find those cleaner. He said the difference in cleanliness was due to being unable to find sufficient staff to clean rooms. So we moved downstairs.
Maybe he meant the basement because the room to which we moved was also unclean. To the manager's credit, he went, got a rag and wiped down the inside of the minifridge in the downstairs room to which we moved. I wish I'd thought to check the freezer before we left. I opened it and quickly shut it so that the mold in the freezer could not invade the room. Not that it mattered, as this room was also grimy. People, I am not easily disgusted but this room had smears and stains in various places.
I went to get ice from an ice machine outside. I approached it. It was covered in dust and honestly, if HAD been working, probably would not have been safe to take ice from. The manager said the ice machine wasn't working right now. To me, it looked like it had not worked for several years. Approximately 5 minutes later, the manager knocked on the door with a full ice cube tray which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the ice bucket was smeared with fingerprints. Kind of disgusting.
Admittedly, the sheets appeared clean but we avoided looking at the underlying mattress given the state of the rest of the room.
I give the manager (owner?) three stars for his attempt at service. He moved us promptly (although to an equally dirty room), brought us ice, and even showed up at our door in the morning with a coffee pot full of coffee. Sadly, none of this makes up for a night spent feeling uncomfortable and disgusted in our unclean room. We also were bemused by the manager's initial suggestion that the initial dirtiness of the room was our fault for choosing an upstairs room, as though it was obvious that if we'd wanted a cleaner room, we should have chosen one downstairs, WHICH WAS STILL UNCLEAN.
What I don't understand is why the owner hasn't made adjustments and tried to address the problems that are noted in so many reviews below, especially the complaints about cleanliness. For what he is charging, this place should be much cleaner and in a better...
Read moreTerrible experience. Decided we wanted to try out a new motel for fun. When we drove up at 9pm the whole place was deserted, besides one lonely truck. The manager gave us a room on the first floor and it was absolutely disgusting. The whole room reeked of cigarette smoke, there were stains on the carpets and bedding. The bedding wasn’t washed and had dirt and hair in it. The floor wasn’t vacuumed either, so giant clumps of dust and dirt were built up everywhere. It seemed like someone had been living in there for a long time. We decided to give him the benefit of the doubt (our mistake) and change rooms, he gave us one upstairs. That room was in identical condition, short of it not smelling like a casino full of farts and cigarettes. It was dirty as well, I found the previous tenants eyeglasses behind the nightstand as well as tons of dirt, hair and grime. It was just so gross, I don’t mind dealing with uncomfortable motels at times but this was by far the worst motel/hotel I have ever stayed at. We called him at the front desk again and explained the situation and asked for a refund. He said no because “he doesn’t know what we did in there” and couldn’t justify that the room was “clean” even though it was disgusting when we walked in, and we were in there only for 20 minutes contemplating what to do or where to go, or to just sleep in the car because we are in the middle of nowhere. The room was the exact way we left it and yet he still denied full refund and argued with us continually that “he runs a business” and that “you get what you pay for”. We mentioned these reviews to him that sadly we saw afterwards of being there, and he said “then you should’ve known better.” We were in shock obviously because this grumpy old man just scammed the eyeballs out of us with the photos and supposed charm and then blamed us for the fact he is a terrible manager and can’t keep his own hotel clean. I’m sure years ago in the way distant past it was decent but now I can tell you all for certain, NEVER GO HERE. Unless you like to be disgusted, degraded and robbed lol. -10000/10 would never stay again. We decided to drive to Brawley and stayed at the Brawley Inn. Same price, clean rooms...
