We surprised my girls with a trip to the Chesapeake Bay @Hyatt and had a blast. Its our favorite local resort for a weekend getaway and has SO much for kids. Not explicitly autism friendly but we find the size to be perfect and not so overwhelming and the staff are so wonderful. Highly recommend to my DMV or East Coasters! #travelplanner #hyatt #chesapeakebay #autismfamily #familytravels #dmvlife #familyadventure

Overall, rated this “resort” a 3 stars because of the location and service (although inconsistent). Location: if you go and stay on property then the hotel location is beautiful with stunning views of the Chesapeake Bay. Also due to its location, there isn’t much around. We had to venture off property for dining and to visit neighboring towns for more things to do.

Pool: torn because the pools were great for our families with young ones. The upkeep of the pool area is lacking as there was garbage and broken chairs when we stayed. Also concerned that the life guards weren’t actually watching guests. I had to pull a child out of the water who was struggling to stay afloat. This was right in front of the lifeguard station and there was no reaction or even care to the child who was is distress. The management of chairs is also lacking as there were not enough chairs for guest and clearly many that were held with towels and no one there. There should be stricter enforcement of policy for the enjoyment of all guests and especially since it was July 4th it was needed even more so. The drinks at the pool bar were great! This was the highlight of our pool day however the lines were really long and many times you spent more time on line than enjoying the pool. There is also no pool service for drinks so the only option is to wait in line.

Beach: the beach is really tiny and needs maintenance. The sand is dirty and there is an area that should be banned because it looks like sewage runoff with a foul smell. This should be looked at as kids were playing in this area. Because it was so small there was no lounge chairs available and really is a launch area for water sports activities.

Food: huge area of opportunity here. I would give the food 1 star. The pool food was the worst I’ve experienced, we ordered chicken tenders and fries and on both occasions the food came out cold and inedible. Not sure how you can mess up on tenders and fries. The nachos were stale and options on the menu were limited. You’re better off ordering from the fast food spots around and picking up or Uber eats. We also had breakfast at Water Edge Grill and disappointed in the food however ate there since we had credits to use. The food again was cold even on the hot plate stations and the ala carte took over 30mins whichever hour you go down. I don’t understand. The stations also were left empty on busy mornings and weren’t refilled until it was flagged for the attendants attention. There are areas of opportunities for this restaurant including proper training and etiquette for hostesses and how to interact with guests.

Rooms: we had an upgrade to the water view and sadly this wasn’t considered an upgrade and afraid of what the non upgraded rooms looked like. When we arrived to the room there was a metal wedge stuck into the door joining the other room which we asked to have removed as it was a safety hazard to the young children. The engineers who they sent up had taken over 2 hours to take the door completely apart with major tools and a crowbar to remove this metal device. Why wasn’t this addressed or flagged prior to our checkin?! Management did not follow up post this event to see how things were going which I was surprised as I’ve stayed at many other Hyatt properties which would have remedied the inconvenience. The view from the room was amazing however the room itself was in need of a spruce up. The head boards were tattered and the side draws were coming out of the wall and angled downward. The bathroom was super concerning as the wall paper was dirty and the grout needed a good cleaning. Honestly we should have switched rooms but were there with a large group and opted to stay so that not everyone had to relocate. We had to call down to have the room serviced a few times and many times we were not given fresh towels and floors were not cleaned. We made the most of our trip as a group but would consider other Hyatt properties to...

Lots of ground to cover. We booked a stay here for a two night short weekend getaway this past weekend. The resort has all the makings to present a magnificent experience and we’ve been to Hyatt Regency’s before so I’ll admit past experience expectations definitely existed. I’ll highlight the positives first - the pool, movie night and game room for children (thought we did not have ours with us) were fantastic. The Spa - also fantastic. The grounds look like they’d be lovely “in season” and the concierge I spoke with was an absolute asset as she truly offered the experience I expect from a resort like this. The valet service was appreciated and not overly priced - also nice.

Our check in process seemed smooth and easy until we arrived in our room and this is where, sadly, a downhill spiral began. We were double charged for our stay and to date - this remains unresolved (2 days now since checkout). We had made our reservation online and naturally a hold was put on our card for the stay. We arrived to check in and another identical hold was placed on our card by the registration staff. We called the front desk - they apologized and said, with little concern but very fast explanation, that one hold would drop off eventually. Mind you this erroneously locked up approximately $800 of our otherwise available funds while we were at this resort. For some, that error could be financially debilitating - not an acceptable accidental overcharge / hold; especially because no effort to correct it was made. I went to use the bathroom in our room, the toilet had not been cleaned. I’ll not detail how that was obvious. The hotel carpet had not been vacuumed so I stepped barefoot on a plastic price tag attachment and crumbs left in our room from the previous patron. So very Frustrating as this of course leaves you wondering what else wasn’t properly cleaned? The sheets??? Fortunately it did appear we had clean linens. The front desk offered apologies and a change of rooms for these discoveries though. Not convenient, but at least a solution.

On to the hotel amenities - The full service hotel restaurant had a lovely menu (the Brussels sprouts were awesome and I mean this!) but the ambiance looks like an 80’s cafeteria which absolutely didn’t match the menu cuisine or price point. Table cloths draped to the floor would go a long way to making the space more upscale to match its menu and replacement of the cracked vinyl chairs would help too. We spent slightly more than $200 on 2 people for mid tier, casual dining. 2 seafood Appetizers, Steak, Rockfish and wine were our selections. The food was good. The service matched the cafeteria ambiance but tried hard to be more and that counts for something. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and provided a good experience.

We ordered breakfast delivered to our room the first morning & actually laughed when it arrived in “to go” containers in a brown paper shopping bag. We laughed because at this point - we had made a “choice” to have a great weekend and not expect this to be a nice resort experience but rather a budget based weekend getaway. But we did ponder, why wouldn’t the Hyatt deliver the room service on plates with real utensils? Again - we laughed out loud. The breakfast was on par with McDonalds but that was ok, we are absolutely comfortable in admitting we are fans of McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches and coffee and it was nice to be able to enjoy something like it via room service in the comfort of our Hyatt Regency Resort room. Ha ha

Overall we’d say this resort needs updating but where they really need to focus is on what we are choosing to assume was their “off season” foot forward presentation, as it seemed to be quite below par.

We realize we may have just landed on fluke scenarios this weekend but we happened upon other guests (2 other couples) who were experiencing a number of frustrations as well and that collective added up to the hotel not earning the best reviews...

We went here and used a day pass on June 13, 2024. I traveled with my 3 children and my bestfriend and her kids. During this visit we decided to get lunch from the outside pool restaurant. After we ordered we were told it would be 20-30 minutes for our food. After 35 min we went up to the counter to find out if our food was almost ready. The manager came back and said something was wrong with the outside kitchen so our food was having to be made in another part of the hotel and would be out within another 10-15 min. That time passed and we still had no food. My kids were very hungry at this point so I went up the the counter again… once I got there I saw a bunch of other people standing around asking if there food was ready as well. There were probably 8 other people waiting for food. We were all told once again it would be another 10-15 minutes. Still no food. The manager realized everyone was getting grouchy as we had reached the hour mark of waiting.. the manager had the girl who was taking the orders print out everyones check that was waiting that long for food and told we would be receiving a full refund. Finally at an hour and 45 min we finally had gotten our food and noticed we were missing items, had gotten items that weren’t even ours and had to wait another 15 min for the correct items to come out. Fast forward to two weeks after our visit I still had no refund in my account. I tried to get ahold of a manager for WEEKS. I called every few days leaving voicemails, getting transferred to multiple different people being told I’d get a call back or I could leave a voicemail. I did all the things and I still have yet to receive a call back from this property. Mind you we are now past the two month mark of this visit. I have emailed corporate who takes WEEKS to get back to you. I have a case number and had been told I’d receive a call back in a day or two.. never happened. I finally got a hold of the kitchen manager this past Thursday (at the 2 month mark) and was told they would reach out to me in an hour .. NEVER HEARD FROM THEM. It’s now Monday.. I have called the property yet again and was bounced all over the place, but still never got to talk to anyone. I can not believe a company that holds themselves so high standards wise can’t seem to contact anyone back over a food refund. It’s absolutely ridiculous that I have to chase down a company for my $112.60 refund for over two months now!! On top of that I called back 10 min ago to try and get ahold of someone once again, explained my situation and she said to me in a very rude tone “well that doesn’t sound like the Hyatt, we don’t just ignore our guests” .. EXCEPT THATS EXACTLY WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING. So now she’s calling me a liar at this point because not ONE SINGLE EMPLOYEE at this location OR corporate has ever given me a call back!!! She also started yelling at me that I needed to calm down when I in fact was calm, the only time my voice escalated when explaining to her what happened was when she started getting loud and ignorant with me. While I was trying to explain to her that it has in fact been two months that I’ve been trying to get this done and over with she continued to say “you’re gonna hang up aren’t you, you’re gonna haanngggg up aren’t you?!?” I said NO IM NOT HANGING UP I WANT THIS FIGURED OUT!! I dont know why they have someone like her answering phones if she isn’t going to be helpful and try to make guests out to be liars. Poor service all around!

Edit: I am not editing this two weeks after my original review to say I got to speak with a wonderful women named Alison, not even really sure what department she is in, but she was super helpful and expedited this to financial and they have now given me my refund as of yesterday. Thank you Alison for being the ONLY one to help me...
