This hotel was well priced compared with other options in Boston and really quite easy to access. We would just hop on the red line train in the morning, explore Boston and our activities for the day, then catch the same train back. The cost of the ticket each way daily was much less that the double prices of other hotels located centrally! It had a quite a charm about it and was clean and tidy. It was a little small compared to other places we’ve stayed (it didn’t bother us though, but you do need to squeeze a bit if you have 2 suitcases and accept you’ll probably trip over the end of the bed a few times)! Also, not sure if it’s the room we booked by accident or if it’s standard, but the room came with 2 singles rather than a Queen for my husband and I. Note though that they now don’t automatically do a room clean option, you need to have requested it by 11am for the following day. We had no issues getting extra amenities though when we needed them like more coffee pods (as there’s a coffee machine in the room). There’s no fridge in the room though which was a bit of a shame, we like to keep our water cold for the next day and stock up on some staples (like yoghurt and the milk we like) but need a fridge to do that. The hotel doesn’t offer any breakfast options but there is a restaurant downstairs (I didn’t see it open for breakfast but we were out and about most mornings quite early). It’s very convenient though to pop across the road for your standard takeaway places (Dunkin Donuts, Panera, etc) and there’s a Target and CVS for grocery needs. Overall we had a very...
Read morePorter Square Hotel? NO THANK YOU!! To give 1 star seems extreme you might be asking. Why so harsh? Well let's detail it:
Incredibly rude front desk staff, particularly an absolutely obnoxious and aggressive employee named Danny. I stay at about 2 hotels a month or around 20+ a year and don't think I've ever encountered someone so rude, honestly ever. Add very tiny closet like rooms with rigid hard mattresses so uncomfortable sleeping is difficult, very cheap and ugly Ikea like furniture throughout, a restaurant and bar that still is not open well over I don't know 2 years after the hotel opening, loud ice machines, no gym/pool or any amenities at all, the room smelled awful, one wall was covered in holes and scratches (see photo), the shower is very difficult to maneuver in and out of due to design, no bedside table, the maid left dirty used cleaning rags in the room and frankly the list goes on and on. For the price this place sucks. Sure there are worse hotels but for the money you could stay somewhere much better, or spend less and get the same garbage accommodations. And for $28 valet parking you'd think you could at least get a hit from the joint the valet tossed the moment we pulled up. Other than the convenient location this place offers very, very little. I will without a doubt stay somewhere else next time, and I highly...
Read moreHotel is close to main university campuses and it is a good area. The hotel rooms are ok but the cleanliness was not up acceptable standards. However the hotel staff is really needs to learn what hospitality means. Hotel staff not at all supportive at all. I was with a group that organized events with the universities in the area at the hotel. We were a groups of guests from all over. I found hotel staff’s specifically Miguel; behavior was extremely biased and racist towards some of our guests. Our group had old people and hotel staff chose not to help with the bags whereas they were helping other customers. Over the course of 3 night stay and 2 events at the hotel we experienced it multiple times. At times the hotel staff would talk amongst themselves in Spanish abusing some of the guests and my wife very well understood Spanish. This was happening frequently. Additionally the day we were leaving we asked to get a print out of the cocos test and the reception guy Miguel and her colleague told we do not have the print out facility where as they rooted bulls right away.
In a city that is academically inclined and having students and expats from all over , it is disappointing to have experienced this. Real...
