Crystal Ballroom — Attraction in Somerville

My birthday is January 17, 2001, and I'm 21 years old. I went to the Machine Girl show l last night. It was all ages, but drinks were 21+ of course. I moved from CA in January, and renewed my CA license with my Boston address when it expired. Look it up. You can do this. It's legal. I did it, and the DMV let me. It scans on scanners, I've used it plenty of times, this is the Only place that has ever denied me service cause they thought I had a fake ID. The guy at the door even called his coworker and manager over, and they were both wrong. Validating this guy's wrong opinion. He had the nerve to tell me he'd been in the business 10+ years, and he'd never seen this. So I must be lying, right? Wrong. Maybe it's time for a career change. Mad embarrassing, especially in front of everyone else in line. They didn't even have a scanner. They still let me in but they marked me as underage and lost my future business.

Bought 2 tickets to see Beth Orton a few weeks back. Cute, relatively small venue. Main issue was that the tickets we bought had seat numbers on them and nowhere was it mentioned when buying them that it was standing room only. We were stunned when we arrived and overheard many 60+ people complaining that they didn’t know this would be standing only. Saw one 80 year old who said he had to leave because he didn’t know he would have to stand all night. The staff also repeatedly yelled at anyone who leaned against a wall or tried to sit on any ledges. They said it was a fire hazard issue but it’s a big problem accessibility wise if you don’t advertise a concert as standing only. Venue was very clean and the staff was incredibly nice. Unfortunately, actually trying to hear music from a concert here was terrible. I am unclear if this was an issue with the speaker equipment or simply poor attention from the technicians. Despite multiple requests from the band and multiple mic feedback sounds, the sound continued to be damn near impossible to make out with the exception of some of the string instruments. The vocals where completely distorted and with everything sounding a bit like listening to the radio one number off from the right channel. Really love the band, but ended up leaving early. Save yourself the money and just buy a hifi album from the bands you like rather than seeing them here. Such a...
