This B&B is located about five minutes from the red line train, which makes it very convenient to get anywhere you need to go via the train system. It’s located on a side street off Main Street. |There are many places to eat on the Main Street of Somerville. There’s also a grocery store and a CVS. The bus has several stops on the Main Street also if you want to take that mode of transportation. |The accommodations were acceptable, however the king room we stayed in required walking through the front hall of the house to get to the bathroom. Only about 10 steps, but that means you probably want to be dressed on the way to your shower and afterwards to go back to the room. A little inconvenient, but doable. Apparently the other rooms have bathrooms in the room. We’ll book one of those next time. 😉|The common area has a desk and computer (although not sure it’s for guest use, we didn’t ask to use it), and comfortable furniture. The kitchen has a full sized side by side fridge, which you can use for leftovers, etc. Also a microwave and Keurig. There’s a table that seats 6. |Breakfast is more of a continental type, there is nothing cooked. It consists of bagels, croissants, bread, muffins, cold cereals & instant oatmeals, Greek yogurt in several|flavors, fruit, cream cheese, butter, jams. Several coffees & teas are provided for the Keurig. Also, OJ, apple juice, milk and 1/2&1/2 are available. |Christina & Steven are the owners. They are very attentive and full of information. We were greeted by Christina when we arrived. She asked our plans and if we needed any help with transportation or visitor info. She presented us with some really good tips for our sight seeing experiences, and a great guide which had maps of Boston and maps of the train lines and other transit options. Very helpful. She recommended the Red Bones BBQ when she learned we were from Texas. That place didn’t disappoint. And it’s about 2 blocks from the B&B. |We also met and conversed with Steven at breakfast the next morning. Owners live on site and are available if there is a need for something, but are not hovering or overbearing. |We enjoyed our stay at Bowers House and...
Read moreBooking accommodation in Boston for a reasonable price is not an easy task but I stumbled on this little gem of a place. I am glad I did….||Arriving by the ‘T’ after figuring that out, the B&B is a 5-10 minute walk from Davis Square station. We arrived late but communication with Christina was excellent and there were no issues regarding entry.||Our room was presented nipping clean for our stay. It was a comfortable room with everything you need for a stay. At this moment in time daily housekeeping is on hold but if you speak to Steven or Christina, they will assist on a refresher or extra towels etc.||Breakfast was a simple continental affair but with enough to start your day. We had a very early start on our last morning as our flight was a ‘early bird’ back to the UK. Steven said we could use the kitchen and help ourselves to breakfast which was much appreciated and helped make the early start easier. I wish all places could assist their guests this way…..||By the way of hosts, Steven and Christina were absolutely superb. Steven was extremely helpful with tips and was a pleasure to chat with on a morning. What he doesn’t know about the Boston area, isn’t worth knowing. If you are arriving by car, parking is straightforward and free. The B&B is an easy walk from Davis ‘T’ station if you are arriving by public transport. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby which is a big help. Sadly the Davis Square area felt a bit sketchy and has few homeless people wandering around but they don’t really bother you. Bowers Avenue did feel safe though and the only thing was the occasional noise from Elm Street sometimes woke you up. Overall though it was a great place to stay and would return again with no...
Read moreWe stayed here as a family (two teenagers) over Presidents' Day weekend on a weekend tour of Boston and some local universities - two rooms. ||||Christina and Steven were excellent hosts - Christina called a week before our arrival to ensure everything was in order and to coordinate our arrival time so that she could meet us, and Steven was there both mornings to catch up and was able to give us some local insights and tips.||||Location is very good - close to Davis Square, and convenient to shops, restaurants, and the T for getting around. There is also parking on Bowers Ave directly in front of the property, which is nice. If you've never had the pleasure of driving around Boston and trying to park, it's a bit challenging - leave your car on Bowers Ave and walk or take the T or a bus.||||The rooms are nice and very clean - we stayed in two kings, which each have private baths that are across the respective hallways. Not a problem, just a bit different. The queens have baths en suite - I peeked into a queen room and it looked like a good setup - both room types are nice, but I will probably stay in a queen next time. There's a nice lounge on each floor with books and local information, and each floor also has a kitchen with coffee, tea, snacks in the afternoon, and continental breakfast in the morning. There's also a large fridge if you need to keep a few things in there.||||And last but not least - good value for money in the area considering the room rate, no parking charges, and breakfast. Thanks to Steven and Christina for a nice visit, and we look forward to...
