My wife and I, who are from Georgia, have stayed at numerous B&B's in the South, the U.S. and abroad. The Morrison House B&B is very different from other B&B's that we have stayed at in one important respect: the owners of other B&Bs are very friendly, helpful, and talkative The owners of the Morrison House are definitely not. They never offered to help us with our luggage up a steep stairway. They never interacted with us over a period of three days. They were standoffish and unfriendly. They did not act as that we were guests in their home. Rather we felt that they could care less if we ever came back to stay there. This is very atypical for B&B owners.
Another sore spot for us was breakfast. At every B&B that we have stayed the owners serve a full breakfast - an assortment of hot and cold items including eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, and other goodies. At the Morrison House it is self-service. In other words, breakfast items such as several cold cererals, bananas, a fruit bowl with two types of fruits, boiled eggs, one or two types of bread, milk and yougurt are placed on a table and stored in a refrigerator and your serve yoruself. This breakfast format was quite disappointing to us. Additionally, many B&B owners provide a happy hour with free beer or wine and appetizers in the early evening. Not at the Morrison House. And our cost for staying at other B&Bs with a full breakfast and happy hour is less than what it cost at the Morrison House.
On the plus side, the rooms at the Morrison House are clean. The downstairs is decorated. There is house cat. The bed and pillows in the room are relatively comfortable. There is ample space to hang up coats, jackets, and other items. There are drawers for clothes. The air conditioning was suitable given that the temps in Boston during our stay were in the 90's. The bathroom was quite small but serviceable. The Morrison House is located only a five minute walk to the subway. A bit further is the main street with a good assortment of restaurants and shops to explore. The Morrison House is in a nice residential neighborhood.
If you want the experience of staying at a B&B with owners who are friendly and helpful and you enjoy meeting other guests during breakfast and/or happy hour then I would not recommend the Morrison House. But if you just need a nice room with a good location for your visit to Boston, then the Morrison House may be...
Read moreGenerally enjoyed our stay here, although the place has a few quirks. The location is great (quiet neighborhood, 5 min walk to the T and Davis Sq) and we enjoyed the outdoor seating areas. Breakfast was fairly basic but did the job. We hardly saw the hosts, and it didn't seem to be the kind of B&B where you receive a personal welcome or make lots of small talk with the owners. It seemed to be easier to reach them via email (which was answered promptly) than to find them in person.||The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed being able to open the windows for fresh air. Internet worked well and we enjoyed meeting the resident cat. Our room was fairly tidy but despite the b&b being described as "ultra-clean" we found long hairs on the shower wall and a dried up cookie on the carpet by the nightstand. Not deal breakers, but the room could've been cleaned better. The website could also be updated to show more current images and room descriptions. For example. there was no "antique secretary" in our room, just a basic desk, and less floor space than depicted in the photos due to other furniture now being in the room (larger chair, fridge, etc). The closet now had a curtain rather than a door. We heard quite a bit of noise from the neighboring room (talking, coughing, child crying) but guess that is to be expected in a house. ||Overall, a convenient and comfortable place to stay, but could use a little freshening up and may not be to...
Read moreMy wife and I have been fortunate to have visited dozens of b and bs through the years. We prefer them over hotels to experience local hospitality. We like the feeling of being greeted like long lost family. Unfortunately, this was not our experience at Morrison House. We felt as if we were more an unwanted solicitor when the host came to the door. He did not introduce himself but instead commented on how we didn't park properly in the driveway. His second statement was to ask how were we going to pay for our stay. There was little communication after that for the 4 nights we stayed there. He did give a brusque tutorial on how to use the french press for the coffee. Frankly, it would be nice for the hosts to prepare the coffee. While we are on the subject of breakfast, I must disagree with prior reviews as to its quality. For all 4 days, it consisted of hard boiled eggs and dry cereal. The muffins were good as was the fruit. At best, I would describe it as spartan. The table would be set up 8 am and the host would stop in briefly to ask if everything was ok. Lest I only focus on the negatives, I concur with the prior reviews that the location was good as was the shower. A large in room refrigerator was also a plus. Unfortunately, this did not outweigh the...
