The Walls of Palo Duro
Purple haze turns scarlet in the morning sun, The air is still as silence when the day is young. Wildlife stirs as Auodad climb and white-tail run, And the new day paints the walls of Palo Duro.
She’s the spawn of the ice of another age, The Prairie Dog Town Branch her muddy waters braid A tapestry where the mesquite and juniper stage. And the panhandle wind shapes the walls of Palo Duro
We crossed the muddy lace on our way to Doves Rest, O’er Devils Tombstone and up Timber Mesa to the West. There to be greeted by coyotes’ call and Skyhouse crest, And you can see the rain coming toward the stately walls...
