The Island, community, restaurants, seafood shop and retail shops are very nice. The pier fishing was wonderful! The rental unit has a beautiful view and was fairly clean. On the flip side, the enterior was very outdated with old cabinets, appliances, furnishings and decor. We had to wash anything before using it for meal prep because everything was dirty. The beds weren't comfortable. There were no comforters or bedspreads and I went and bought a blanket and used towels since it was unseasonably cold and rainy while we were there. No how to or instructions for use of TV or anything within the unit for that matter, so be ready to waste some of your vacation figuring out how to operate stuff. I never understood all the mismatched, puzzled rugs in the balcony that were nasty when we arrived and stayed soaking wet all week long, so you couldn't go out without shoes. The clutter of chairs and toys allowed tight quarters for enjoying the balcony. The low flow shower head was a pain! It has never taken me so long to shower! Why would there be a sink in the second bedroom with no light above it to see what you are doing? We finally located the dumpsters mid-week which were not conveniently located. The previous renters linens bag remained outside of the door until the a day or two before we left. The entrance of the catwalk from the parking lot to the beach remained under mid chin deep water all but the last day we were there, so it wasn't too nice going to stroll the beach after returning from dinner. We struggled with the temperamental, push button door lock that needs to be replaced! There is no assigned parking so even though you pay for ocean front units you aren't going to get to park real close to them, much less underneath! The pool was closed the entire week of our vacation and no one had the decency to tell us which is sad that I specifically rented and paid more for a condo with that eminity. We drove to tour the forts to find they were closed the entire week because of a school camp - something else I think should have been shared since it is a main attraction on Oak Island. The beach is very crowded! Surprisingly clean since there isn't a single trash reception anywhere on the beach, which would have been nice. Dogs are to be leashed but few abide by the rule and it isn't enforced. I learned you must ask many questions to prevent being...

Read moreWe just returned from Oak Island and stayed in OIBV 203. It is referred to as "Amazing View" . Indeed, it does have an amazing view but in my opinion that is all it offers. When you arrive the outside looks well kept and updated. Our particular unit (203) was more expensive than some of the others so I was expecting a really nice condo. It was a total disappointment. The LR furniture was so worn and unclean appearing that we spent our entire trip either sitting in kitchen chairs or chairs outside on deck. The bed was questionable. I did not see anything obvious but there was a mattress protector and I was so uncomfortable, not only did I leave my pillows there but I washed everything before leaving and again upon coming home. Everything was dusty and felt dirty!!!!! Bathroom floor had hairs from previous owners. If I were the owners to this particular unit I would be furious or embarrassed. We spent over $800.00 for 4 nights (the same rate for a week rental this time of year). It was our first trip to OI and hoping to save someone else the disappointment. Last note the view and proximity to...
