St. James Hotel — Hotel in Cimarron

The hotel IS haunted! But NOT in the way you think! No ghost-activity! But we got EVPs!! You have to be sensitive to Spirit to get the experience! I am a Medium! So we got the experience!

We got the Spirits of Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Annie Oakley, and Buffalo Bill! But they did not do any physical things! Just talked to us!

We just stayed there. The owner needs to update the bathrooms! You can still keep the integrity of the history of the hotel without sacrificing modernizing the bathrooms!

We stayed in room 23 - the only room that would accommodate a family of 3. I hated the old-fashioned tub! We did not use it! The owner needs to update that tub to a shower!

They had two twin beds and a full-sized bed. I had not slept in a twin bed since I was young! Ugh! Our son took the bigger bed!

Jason, my partner took 10-15-minutes trying to find the room!

Another family apparently also had trouble finding their room as well! They kept rattling our door! Thinking that that was their room! It was not!

The owner needs to put in an elevator for us older folks! I am 60! The railing was rickety and the stairs were steep!

The owner needs to make the rooms larger to accommodate bigger families! Otherwise, bigger families cannot stay there!

The owner needs to put in skits, have seances, have other activities associated with the haunted factor - if she is promoting the haunted factor!

She needs to retrain front office staff! The short-haired blonde woman with the glasses was rude to us - me! I am Chinese. I stick out like a sore thumb in small towns like this!

She was only nice to Jason - when he was paying the.bill! And because he’s Caucasian!

If you want to make your hotel more profitable, you need to change things!

I did not realize at the time that I had gotten Billy the Kid’s Spirit to come forward! And Jesse James, Annie Oakley, and Buffalo Bill. I am a Medium!

If you are not sensitive to Spirit, you will get no haunted activity!

There are no apparitions walking around! You cannot feel them! You cannot see them! Unless you are a Medium! To go there expecting things to happen is unrealistic! If you are NOT a Medium!

Nothing physical happened when we were there!

The staff needs to help visitors find their rooms!

The owner needs to take away the shared bathrooms and make every room have their own bathrooms!

We will not go there again!

We were going to the Chicago concert at Treasure Island and booked a room to stay at the St. James. The concert was a nice surprise gift for my wife, as this is one of her favorite bands. After I made the reservation, I called the hotel and asked if we could get one of the nicer rooms in the price range I paid, as this was kind of a special night. I didn't ask for an upgrade, just a nice room. The lady I spoke with told me she would book us in one of their river view rooms, and also she was putting a note in the reservation of "Do Not Move" so we would be assured of getting a nice room. We got to Red Wing around 1:30 and stopped at the hotel to see if we could check in early. Check in was listed as 4PM. Our room was ready and we were able to check in. That was very nice. When we got to our room and opened the door, we were staring at a brick wall out the window. Not the river view room we were promised. I called the front desk and talked with a lady named Angie or Andie. She apologized, said there were no notes in the reservation, and the hotel was full so she couldn't move us. I knew the hotel wasn't full, as the couple checking in next to us had a lost reservation, and the lady was booking a room for them while we were checking in. Also, with check in being 4 PM, and us being early, she certainly could have moved us into another room. I was very disappointed and hung up. The concert was great and we got back to our room around midnight. Sunday morning, we were awakened at 8 AM by hammering going either on our floor or above us. I called the front desk and asked if they could stop the hammering. The front desk lady didn't know anything about any work going on but would check it out. After about 10 minutes, we heard talking and the hammering stopped. However, we just got up, packed, and left. The overall hotel is very nice and would warrant a 4 or 5. However, the service or lack of service we received and the Sunday morning construction, rates this overall a 2. Red Wing is a great city to visit, but I would probably pick someplace...

Charming, rustic, historic and Beautiful! The entire staff is friendly and accommodating, the rooms are very clean and neat and comfortable. We stayed in the modern annex as I was traveling with my 13 yr old son. He was not as excited about the history as I was, but he was excited that there was Wireless internet and it worked in our room. Next time I come, I would prefer to stay in the gorgeous historic rooms in the main hotel. They let us explore the historic rooms that were vacant and they were beautiful!! No tvs, as they are kept in traditional 1800s style but they were incredible, some with adorable bathrooms. The modern rooms had TV, microwave, all the typical hotel/motel accommodations. The restaurant had great food, I had the Cimarron chicken which was a large grilled breast covered in raspberry sauce and sprinkled with chopped candied walnuts. Most everything about the hotel was traditional and historic and that is the charm. Huge patio with two fireplaces a waterfall and incredible murals. I couldn't put my camera down.
