We rented 3 cabins at Legion Lake for our annual family vacation. This was the first time staying at Custer State Park. I will say the staff is warm and friendly. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. The service is a little slow, so don't be in a hurry. We were on vacation so that was not a problem. The food is very good. We ate here 3 times! And with 10 pp I think we tried almost everything on the menu. The store is more of a gift shop, so don't look for milk, s'mores kits, bread or forgotten items here. The Lodge itself is well maintained and clean. (note many flies when eating-wish they could do something about those both inside and outside).|Now to the cabins-the setting is lovely and the views beautiful overlooking Legion Lake. All are in walking distance to the lake down hill there, uphill back. Unfortunately, they are not well maintained. Galena Cabin at check in, the closet door was off, the one of the toilet seats was broke and several lights did not work. Also, of note we could not check in on time because the cabin was still being cleaned. At 4:40p it was "ready". One of the bathrooms was not clean, the floors not sweep or vacuumed. Also, with the view you think they would clean the windows at some point. How did it pass inspection to be turned over to new arrivals is beyond us. We cleaned the bathroom ourselves. We did ask for the items to be fixed and they never were during our stay. One of our cabins #5 had an outlet in the kids room with exposed wires, and the hot water knob didn't work in the shower. My son, fixed the outlet and shower knob so they could shower each day. Over all the cabins are nicely furnished, roomy, they supply all the towels, soap, dish soap, trash bags, and pick up your trash as needed, but in need of much maintenance. |Legion Lake had great amenities that we all enjoyed-fire pit, hike around the lake, kayak rentals, fishing, swimming, lovely...

Read moreLegion Lake Lodge is a little hidden little gem that’s great for families. It feels like a less crowded version of the more popular Sylvan Lake. The kayak rentals are open from 10am to 5pm ,do a half hour or up to 3 hours (rentals close during storms). People were enjoying fishing at various spots around the lake. Beginner level lake trail about 1 mile which is good for kids. Our cabin was very clean and seemed updated, with plenty of GFC outlets. I was surprised to see past reviews about dirty, moth infested, outdated cabins because ours was immaculate. We stayed in Pike cabin #8 a short walk down hill to the beach, trail and lodge. We had a queen size bed in the main room of the cabin and it had a separate bedroom with 2 comfy oversized chairs and a chessboard table along with bunk beds (queen bed on bottom and upper bunk was a twin. The shower had good water pressure, with lots of towels, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. The main room had a kitchenette stocked with dishes, pans, flatware, toaster, stove top, coffee pot, fridge and microwave along with a small round kitchen table and 4 chairs. There was a tv, closet shelf area, and cabins have good AC/heat. Easy pull up parking with a picnic table and fire pit with some fire wood provided. A buck walked by our cabin twice. They sell s’mores supplies at the lodge store along with snacks and beer (but no ice machine). The Lodge restaurant had a coffee shop counter and picnic items to go. The lodge restaurant has beautiful lake views with indoor outdoor seating along with tasty menu items. We enjoyed the walleye tacos and the bison sausage...
