Our family hosted a wedding in early November at Open Gates Bed & Breakfast. From the very beginning, we knew we were in great hands with Zach and Carrie. They provided us with recommendations on vendors and set-up, recommended location activities and were very responsive with communication.
As the week of the wedding arrived, they allowed us to drop off items early and even modify our reservation to arrive a day earlier than we had initially anticipated.
On the day of the wedding, they setup tables, the cake station, bar, music, dancefloor, lights, place settings, and more. The evening ambiance was like a movie. Everything was absolutely beautiful and, as many people described it, like being in a movie.
The location is walkable from everywhere in downtown Darien, the park across the way is filled with live-oaks covered in Spanish moss along with a fountain, and across the street is a not-to-be-missed chocolatier!
The beds are heavenly, the common spaces are beautiful, and Zach's breakfast is worth the stay. If you are considering an event or just a weekend away, we could not recommend Open Gates Bed & Breakfast any higher. Thank you, Zach and Carrie, for everything...
Read moreThis was our 4th stay here over the past 10 years. Lovely, well-appointed historic home adjacent to a picturesque square with live oaks. The bluebird room is bright, quiet, very comfortable bed, several chairs and loveseat, with sufficient lighting for reading, and luggage racks available. Also a good sized closet area for bags and hanging clothes. All the rooms are quite large, fine for multiple nights. Bluebird bathroom is on the small side but has shelving for toiletries. Zach met us on arrival and served a fantastic and beautifully presented breakfast. Next time hope to spend longer to visit nearby Sapelo and other islands. For a small town, Darien has a surprising number of restaurants as well as a great wine shop with sizable wine bar in the back overlooking the river, where you get...
Read moreThird time over the last ten years visiting Darien and staying at this wonderful B&B. Although we have stayed at many US B&B's all over the East Coast ( and many in Europe as well) - we have never experienced such a beautiful and carefully crafted breakfast. Host Zach is a professional chef and Carey, his wife, provides excellent service. They have an interesting history and the people who stay here are looking for (and finding) a more unique experience in travel. Within walking distance to the center of Historic Darien and several restaurants - the B&B is a welcome respite from I-95 traffic. Come enjoy a slowed-down, coastal experience, close to shrimp boats, beautiful marshes and a charming, historic downtown. I'd call this...
