Not good - I'm the buyer. My wife's meal (grouper) was fine but the sides we're cold. My daughter's meal was fine but the side cheese grits came at the end of the meal. My fried flounder was on the verge of being rotten if not rotten. When I spoke to our server, all I received was an apology. That doesn't help my $40 meal when I can't eat it. We did order the raw oysters (2 dozen) and they were pretty good. The service was okay but we had to wait a long time to get our meal and the food wasn't worth the wait. I had driven 2 1/2 hours to visit a friend and wanted a great seafood meal on my return trip home. I don't do this very often but after reading the great reviews, I thought this was the place. Well $175.00 later I knew I had made a mistake. My expectations were ruined and this wasn't my best experience with seafood. I grew up in Apalachicola, FL and I know good seafood and they surely missed it. If the restaurant replies back to this review stating that I should have spoken about this at the restaurant, I DID. I will not be back. I'm so totally disappointed. 4/28 (Monday) - sicker than 4 billy goats - I'm on the pot numerous times and very nauseous. I'm sorry for writing such awful things but I'm very upset about my experience. 4/29 (Tuesday) - I'm better but still on the pot and wondering if there is anything left in my body.... it's not as bad as yesterday- WHEW but the good news is that I got to eat today!! 4/30 (Wednesday) I'm better than Tuesday but still having to sit on the pot but just a few less times (explosive & inhumane) but I can tell I'm on the mend. YAY As you can tell, I'm still not happy... having been sick for 3 days is no fun but I'm trying to make the best of the worst of times. Hey guys I'm back again. This will be my last post. Thursday 5/1 was an Okay day but still recovering even with gut hurt and Friday makes almost a SOLID day if you get my gist. Overall and as you can tell, my experience here was not good and as a matter of fact, it was awful. A week later and I'm very close to being 100%. I spent $175 for the entire meal for 3 people which would have been fine if only our meal and experience had been better. Still disappointed and sad about my mistake of eating here. Regret regret and regret....Good luck and carry...
Read moreMy family and I love Brunswick. We live 3 hours away, and was on Jekyll/St. Simon the weekend prior to this one, for the weekend. Due to a late lunch, we didn't make it to Skipper's as planned. Therefore, this trip was mainly to try Skipper's, as it was recommended by a friend. This was my family's 1st visit to this restaurant. Needless to say, we were disappointed. We had a party of 5. The atmosphere and everything was nice. They were really busy. There were 3 of us that ordered hot meals. I had the captain's platter with fries, and onion rings. 2 had the fried oysters, fries, Mac n cheese, and onion rings. As soon as our server put the fries down, I grabbed 1. They were cold. The server replaced them. I begin eating off my plate, and it was cold as well. I went to the fish at the very bottom, and the fish was hot. Apparently, the calamari, shrimp, and oysters were cooked 1st, and I'm guessing 15-20 minutes before the fish, because there was no warmth to it at all. The fish was cooked last, then everything else placed on top. The 2 with the oysters, theirs were cold as well. I mentioned this to our server, Brandon, who is super nice, and friendly, but he didn't offer to get hot food, or to make any adjustments to the ticket. If I go back, I will probably order the peel n eat shrimp, as the other 2 in our group did, or be sure my food is delivered fresh out the grease, the way I like it, and the way it should be served. It shouldn't be served when everyone's order at the table is ready. Seafood is not cheap. Therefore, I expect my food to be hot when I receive it,...
Read moreMy wife and I have eaten at Skippers a couple of times several years ago and it was ok but not great. We decided to try it again as it has been several years. We went on her birthday and she got the crab cake combo with broiled scallops and I got the seafood platter that had fried scallops, shrimp, oysters, calamari and a piece of fried fish. She got a baked potato and fried okra and I got fried okra and Mac and cheese. She said the crab cake and scallops were good although the scallops were like warm. I liked the oysters and scallops and the Mac and cheese was not bad.
Now the bad. Her baked potato was cold and looked like it was cooked last week, both of our okra sides were over cooked and cold. My okra was so bad I tried to stick a fork in a piece and it shot across the table. My shrimp did not taste fresh and had an odd off flavor, the fish had a muddy taste when I am not sure was there fault as I have experienced this on fresh fish I have caught and cooked. The calamari was flavorless. And to cap off a perfect visit my wife told the waitress the potato was cold and she said she would get a new one. When the potato left the table to go back it had foil on it and when the same potato came back no warmer, it no longer had the foil on it... Go figure a new potato is actual the same. I believe this is the last time I will drive from the other side of Brunswick to Darrian to spend 80 plus dollars for 2 people. And the potato just puts it...
