Excellent. Tucked away but close to all. Great hosts. Thoughtful and proactive. Amongst one of our top 5 KOA experiences to date for several reasons. Park your RV and enjoy sunset on the hills, while being set up an easy hill with the site tucked away from the 2-lane little highway (yep, not a 4-lane :) to Deadwood and Lead. The 2 baby goats and 1 young donkey rescue are adorable, set aside from the camp but a lovely opportunity for kids (and us big kids) to go say hello. Our kids were not with us for this one, but the playground area looks new, and safe. Very clean grounds, modern tables/chairs at the site. The amenities were clean, and plentiful. I confess, we were going to stay in our RV that we love, but opted instead to stay in the covered luxury wagon. (They have 2, plus various cabins, RV hook up options etc). With no kids on our trip, it was just an on the spot romantic choice we made after a long day on the road. They are decorated like a B&B, with an incredibly comfy king bed, excellent linens, a big TV, gorgeous little table area, excellent air conditioning, all enclosed, but just outside leading to a patio with a tricked out gas grill and fire-ring table, and awesome views. They should be listed on Airbnb as a unique, cool stay option :). If you bring the kids, there is also a great bunk bed in the wagon. Kids would love this space too. Personally, I’d leave this for a couples surprise / night, or as a unique stay option while in the area, but that’s just my view bc I think time with the kiddos is going to be at the pool or playground, whereas this is an R&R vibe. Other campers were friendly, polite, sweet dogs, and it felt like everyone was just doing their thing and enjoying it. The shop had great amenities. Kudos to the new owners (new management since July 2021?). Oh, and try the ‘unisex’ bathrooms/showers at the top of the grounds. There are two of them. They were recently redone and they are akin to a ski chalet! All tiled, skylights, wam, and beautiful fixtures. Breathe, relax and enjoy this...

That being said, this is by far the worst experience we have ever had at a KOA. Upon our arrival the person checking us in said to my husband. You better not have lied about the size of your RV because if you did you will be hit by the trolley and it will be your fault. My husband's response was well I didn't lie but if I did it would be his fault for hitting my parked RV. We have a 21ft bumper pull trailer, and the site was very small that we had to park our Jeep across the back of the RV. We did not have extra chairs at our site but every other site had them, we were told it was because our site was so small... They were ALL small.|We did not get escorted to the site for the first time ever, and figured it was because it was such a small park that maybe that was the reason. But later on in our stay the two ladies parking next to us did so I guess it was because my husband was a male. The sites are so tightly packed that to sit at the picnic table provided, you are practically in the neighbors site, You could almost use their RV as a backrest. When outside we were so worried that to talk above a whisper the neighbors could hear every conversation we were having because we could hear theirs. The sites are cement and gravel and would radiate the heat from the sun so our RV's air-conditioner ran continuously. When we used the laundry facility I asked how long the cycle usually takes so I could set a timer and the guy at the counter told me 25 min so don't be late because we close in at 7pm the time was 6:10 pm. The hot tub was out of order but the pool was open and clean on the plus side to the site. I was so disappointed in this KOA that I would not recommend it to anyone. Stay in Spearfish if you are loyal to KOA and drive you would be better off. Or Whistler Gulch Campground at least they...
