Visited on a Wednesday morning (around 9am) in July and was able to get a private tour as no one else had arrived at this time. I found this tour to be quite interesting as I've never been in a gold mine and hearing about the stories of what life was like for miners back in time. I really enjoyed the part when you get to experience complete darkness in the mine. The tour lasts about 30 mins, and my tour guide Nathan was really informative and lively. Because I was the only one on the tour, I was able to ask specific questions about the mine and the surrounding Deadwood area, as the tour is scripted to cover all the key topics in 30 mins. Definitely worth visiting if you're looking for a quick activity.

Fun underground guided tour of historical mine. Nice cool temperatures (not freezing) for a break on a hot day. Friendly tour guides provide history of the former mine and point out different mineral deposits during the tour. Recommend to arrive early for your tour time and stay close to the guide to hear full narrated tour. Some spaces during the tour have lower ceilings and require crouching to 5-foot height through tunnels. Tour includes uneven walkways underground and some stairs to enter and exit the tour path. Family friendly location and tour content.

My family and I went all out and did everything available at the mine. We did the basic tour, the candle lit ghost tour, we panned for gold and we each purchased a pan for future prospecting and as a great souvenir. The prices here are excellent and your money is being spent to maintain history and is a non-profit. Great story behind the mine. We recommend doing the 2nd to last tour of the day, then panning for a little gold as a souvenir and then doing the candle lit ghost tour. The staff made the tour fun and educational.

This was an awesome tour through an old gold mine. The tour was around 30 minutes and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and added some humor. Lots of neat things to look at on the inside such as different types of rocks, entrances, large rooms, etc. It was a very reasonable price and is great for kids. We also did the panning for gold and were instructed on the proper method of panning. Our whole family had a blast at the Broken Boot mine!

While visiting Deadwood SD on July 4th weekend this year, we stopped by Broken Boot Gold Mine for one of the tours. Our tour guide was very informative and funny. If you are claustrophobic, you might not want to take this tour. Also, warning for those who are tall... there are places in the mine that you have to duck quite a bit to get through. My husband hit his head more than once and joked that miners must not have been very tall :)

YOU WON'T REGRET THIS ONE! The tour was both fun & informative. Our guide was knowledgeable & was able to give a good lesson in local history as well as about the rocks & minerals. She kept our group, including children, engaged throughout. The price was lower than others in the area. My kids did the gold panning lesson as well & each were excited to have their little vial of riches. Definitely recommend giving this stop a go!
