This was a terrible experience from start to finish. The room had major water damage and what appeared to be black mold. The walls were dirty, with visible damage and holes around the outlets. When I arrived, one of the rooms even had the toilet water shut off, and I quickly discovered it was because the toilet would not stop running. There was also no hand soap provided in the bathroom.||||The overall cleanliness and appearance of the hotel were extremely poor. The carpets were dirty and stained, and in the middle of the entryway there was a large Rubbermaid bucket set out to catch water leaking from the air duct above. The container had water and trash in it, creating a very unwelcoming first impression. The guest rooms were no better, with dirty walls, water damage, and fixtures in disrepair. Some areas showed possible signs of mold, which was very concerning. The bathrooms were not properly stocked, and the furniture and bedding were old, worn, and poorly maintained. It was clear from both the common areas and guest rooms that cleanliness and upkeep are not a priority at this location.||||The breakfast was also extremely disappointing. The food was not covered at any point and had no option to be covered. It was cold and poorly maintained in the chafing dishes, the coffee was empty the entire morning, and the ice machine did not work. When I asked for more coffee at 7:30 in the morning, the staff acted as though it was a burden.||||The staff overall was unhelpful and rude. At one point, a man behind the desk just sat and stared at my daughter, which was very unsettling. Upon check-in, there was no one at the front desk, and I had to go into the convenience store in the front of the building to find someone to call for assistance. I felt like I was inconveniencing them just by asking for help. During checkout, the woman at the desk huffed when I asked if I should simply place the keys in the basket labeled “return keys here.” When I asked if there was anything else I needed to do, she sighed again before answering.||||For the price paid, the value was extremely disappointing. The parking lot was poorly maintained with uneven surfaces, adding to the overall neglected appearance of the property. The convenience store in the front did not feel like a typical hotel shop offering necessities or quick items. Instead, it came across more like a head shop, with pipes and paraphernalia as the main focus, which added to the uncomfortable and unprofessional atmosphere.||||As a Wyndham Rewards account holder, my experience at this location was especially disappointing. I was not greeted or acknowledged as a rewards member at check-in, and at no point during my stay did I feel valued or recognized for my membership. It was also very embarrassing, as I had recommended staying at a Wyndham property to other family members who were in town for a wedding while I was visiting from out of state. Based on my past positive experiences, I expected the same level of quality and service, but this stay fell far short and left me regretting that recommendation.||||I did not report these problems to the hotel staff because they were already aware of issues from my family members’ rooms that had been previously reported, yet no action was taken. It appeared that they were well aware of the problems and simply chose not to address them, which was evident given the overall neglected state of the establishment.||||This was by far the worst Baymont, or hotel in general, that I have ever stayed at. I will not be returning to this location, and I would strongly caution anyone considering staying here to...
Read moreTL:dr – This hotel has bed bugs, and I’m having to fight them to refund my full 2-night stay, even though I was only in the room less than one hour. UPDATE: the hotel refunded me for the two nights.
I booked a two night stay via Expedia this past weekend at Baymont by Wyndham in Delavan WI. Obviously, the rating isn’t great to start with, but I read recent reviews that indicated some renovations had happened and issues had been addressed, so I decided to give it a chance.
I did their online check-in to make the process more efficient, and I got a text message right away welcoming me and inviting me to text if I needed anything. When I showed up to the hotel around 7:15 PM on a Friday night, there wasn’t anyone at the front desk to give me the room key. I waited around for a few minutes, but I was in a hurry to drop off my stuff and get to an event. I noticed that there were documents and key cards lined up on the desk that were easily accessible to anyone. Because I was in a hurry, I grabbed my packet off the desk and got access to my room. I dropped off my stuff and left again within 10-15 minutes. I wasn’t in the room long and it was clear it wasn’t renovated, but I thought it would be fine. I didn’t see anyone at the front desk on my way out.
Around 10:15 PM, I received 3 phone calls from the hotel, but I was unavailable to answer in that moment. I texted back that I was unavailable and letting them know I had picked up my room key from the front desk earlier because no one was there, and it was left out on the desk. They responded immediately thanking me for letting them know.
I didn’t return to the hotel until 11:30 PM or so. Again, there wasn’t anyone at the front desk. I went to my room and got ready for bed.
I was in bed at 11:55 PM, and within 3 minutes I saw a bug crawling towards me on top of the comforter. I had to look up “bed bug” because I’d never seen one before, and my fears were confirmed. At 12:03 AM, I texted the number with a photo of the bed bug, and indicated I was packing up immediately. I got an auto-message that indicated no one was monitoring texts at that time. I used from bag in the ice bucket to contain the bed bug so that I could make sure I didn’t take it with me. After I was completely ready to go, I took a video of the entire state of the room. I was gearing up for the reveal of the bed bug, when I saw another one crawling on the pillow I had just been laying on.
On my way out, I ran into two employees in the lobby. I said, “This place has bed bugs, and I’m leaving." They were not surprised, and they weren’t overly apologetic or anything. One of them told me that because I hadn't booked directly, there wasn’t anything he could do about refunding me, that I would have to contact Expedia. He then said, “The last time this happened, the manager Kevin had to deal with it. Here’s his number.” And gave me a business card with his number listed.
After I got settled in another hotel that night – after waiting for an hour to make sure I didn’t have any bugs on me – I contacted Expedia via chat. They said they would have to contact the hotel first before they could refund me, and that it might take up to 72 hours.
This morning, I got an email saying they had gotten in touch with the hotel and the hotel had denied my request to make an exception to refund my stay.
UPDATE: The hotel manager Kevin called me on the same day I posted this review and agreed to refund both nights. I had to contact Expedia again, but the refund has...
Read moreCan’t rate this hotel poorly enough! So many things went wrong with this hotel- we simply cannot recommend any part of the experience.
Upon arrival for check in, we instantly discovered the air conditioning in the lobby was non-existent. It was a 90° day and the humidity and heat were terrible. We were behind another couple also waiting to check in. There was one clerk at the desk who I think, based on the “now hiring” requests posted outside, was the ONLY staff member that day. She left the desk multiple times to check on things. She left and left the phone off the hook, so it was constantly beeping for the 5 minutes she was gone.
During this time, I used the lobby restroom. Gross. Janky door that didn’t lock properly and other just “icky” elements about the single-stall bathroom.
We did eventually get checked in, and early, I might add. We appreciated the early check in because we had an afternoon wedding to get ready for and needed the rooms.
Our room was ready and rather spacious, but we still felt icky and gross in it. Zero counter space in the bathroom whatsoever because the giant bowl sink takes up the entire vanity. There are exposed pipes and gross caulking all over the place. No part of it made us feel “homey”. In fact, my husband and I both kept shoes on our feet the entire stay.
My in-laws, however, did not fair as well. Their first room had a toilet that didn’t function. Their second room hadn’t been cleaned yet by housekeeping! (Ew!) and their 3rd room finally worked...until my brother-in-law and his wife checked into the hotel and were issued THE SAME ROOM! My in-laws were in their room (still dressed and decent, luckily) and my siblings unlocked the door and walked in expecting to find an unoccupied room! Instead they found my in-laws saying, “What are you doing in our room?!?” Thank goodness the whole mix up involved family and not strangers, but how does a hotel assign the same room to two different parties?
Rooms were finally figured out, but it was not a pleasant stay. We felt grimy and gross the whole time. Door keys didn’t work for any floor in the elevator but your own, so we couldn’t use the elevator to get to the rooms of our family members on other floors. My siblings had to go back to the desk upon returning from the wedding because their room key didn’t let them into their room.
In the morning, we decided to forgo the continental breakfast because we don’t trust this hotel. I attempted sitting on the couches/chairs in the lobby only to find they all had gross stains on them. I think some of the pipes overhead were leaking onto the fabric. A desk clerk wasn’t readily available for checkout as her 10-year-old daughter was the only one behind the counter. We had to wait for the desk clerk to return. The lobby floors were dirty and we couldn’t get out of their fast enough. Yikes.
This place needs a LOT of updates and more staff. This was an incredibly unpleasant stay and we’re just thankful it was only a quick...
