Dinosaur National Monument has a fascinating dinosaur quarry at its west end in Utah and rugged, spectacular canyons at its east end in Colorado. For viewing the rugged canyons from Harpers Corner Road (with the best overlooks), Dinosaur, Colorado, is the closest place for lodging. But the options are few with the Terrace Motel being, perhaps, the only option.||||Certainly not a 3 or 4 star accommodation, and some might question it being even 2 stars. But it is clean and at a great location. The main office has a phone outside the door for you to call the clerk who responds and drives to the motel while you wait (maybe 5 or 10 minutes). Again, this is not the Palace Hotel of San Francisco with room service and smiling faces at a reception desk ready to call you in the morning with a 'wake up' call. In fact, there wasn't a phone in my room. But there was a mini-fridge, a microwave oven, and a coffee maker. Plus, the towels and washcloths were plush, soft, and fluffy (better than at some 2 and 3 star hotels). The bathroom appeared to have been remodeled with new fixtures and was actually quite nice, though it only had a modular shower stall. The shower hose sprayer compensated for my not being able to bend over (which is partly my fault for eating too much over the years ;-).||||Nearby restaurants are few, but a Loaf N Jug, for gas & snacks, is almost within walking distance from the Terrace Motel. Personally, I packed picnic food in an ice chest. With the microwave in the room, I could have nuked food, too.||||Overall, the motel is not being neglected. On the contrary, it is obvious that the owners care and are trying to improve their little motel as best as their income allows. The Terrace Motel is certainly not elegant (LOL), but it IS decent with great access to the eastern canyons of Dinosaur National Monument. It...
Read moreWhile the staff here were very nice I feel it’s only fair to share that it’s well worth driving the extra half hour to Vernal. We stayed here bc of the relatively high google rating and the relative proximity to the park. We weren’t expecting it to be a Ritz but we also weren’t expecting fleas and cockroaches in our room. Let me just say that the bed was so dirty I slept in leggings socks and a long sleeve shirt (on top of the sheets and towels) so that critters couldn’t touch me. To say it was horrific was an understatement but I made the call to stay here bc of the logistics to the park, the late night arrival time and my need to stay on track for our road trip so, I made the best of it. My husband (who could sleep on a bed of rocks in the middle of a Forrest) was traumatized for months and wanted to sleep in our car. Our trip improved exponentially when we made it to Dinosaur National Monument early the following day because we couldn’t really sleep so we left at 5am, the early arrival allowed us to drive the whole park and take in the sites and get back to the visitor center for opening well ahead of anyone else. Despite the close proximity to the park avoid this place...
Read moreI loved our experience at the T-Rex Bedrock Inn, formerly known as the Terrace Motel!
My fiancé and I came to stay for a night during a road trip, and the room was just what we needed. Clean, accessible, with a good bathroom mirror and lighting for morning makeup (most places mess this up!), and not a single pest spotted. The sheets were ultra fresh, and I slept well on the bed.
The family that owns it was super kind over the phone and in person, and didn’t mind us arriving late in the evening thanks to our long journey across the Rockies.
The biggest plus for me was the wire shelves in our room, with a generous amount of storage space that didn’t require any bending or lifting. I was able to put my heavy bags down at waist level — amazing! I’d just had abdominal surgery 3 weeks prior, so this was an awesome addition that helped big time.
Thank you for putting those shelves in, T-Rex Bedrock Inn. You guys rock, and I’m so glad we stayed in Dinosaur instead of Vernal. No Disney-fied nonsense, just a classic American old-school roadside motel.
It’s a cool town and a gorgeous area, and you’ve shown the big chains what being a caring small business...
