Thanks to you our trip to Kings National Park was a NIGHTMARE. We had family visiting from Spain, we thought it would be nice a night at King Canyon bc we stayed at John Muir in the past and it was OK . I called before making the reservation and spoke to someone at their reservation department who assured me that we can get a rollaway for the cabin because it showed it was for 4 people and it was the only one that was available at that moment but it turned out this information was wrong. The lady at the front desk said everything was ok when we arrived but told us that we needed to check back-in at 4pm. but when we came back another lady named Jessica told us that we can't have a rollaway at the cabin bc that was the rule and it was NOT allowed. She just said that there was no way to accommodate 5 people... at the beginning she started talking about investigating how it happened and that she needed to find out who told me that instead of helping and finding a solution, she even asked me what number did I call for reservation like we were not telling the true, then she found out the note about the "extra bed" and confirmed the reservation dept. made the mistake, at that moment she changed her attitude a little. They did not show any consideration and no one care that one of us did not have a bed to sleep. At the end, after insisting that they need to do something since one of us did not have a bed to sleep in, she said they will send a mattress and if we had any trouble she will be there till 11pm which was not true because she left. That night when we went back to our cabin, we found a "mattress" bended on the floor (if it can be call mattress), it was dirty, old and had no cushion AT ALL so we went back to the front desk and there was another lady who told us that Jessica left and there was nothing she could do, she only kept saying " I am so sorry but we dont have a mattress" really??? so were I suppose to sleep??? The hotel don't care about their guest at all. NO one called to apologized or to offer any kind of discount, or another room or try to help us in any way, even the manager Susan (next morning) was cold and did not care for the horrible weekend we had because of the wrong information they gave us when making a reservation. I had to sleep in the CAR, which mean, I could not sleep or enjoy the next day because it was impossible to rest at night inside the CAR. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. CABINS ARE ALL, DIRTY, THE STAFF DID NOT CARE AT ALL EVEN IT WAS THEIR MISTAKE AND NO ONE CONTACTED ME AS THEY SAID THEY WILL. DISAPPOINTED AT 200% We felt they did not treat us with any respect, they did not care that one of us had no place to sleep. Maybe they are use to treat "visitors" this way but it is sad that all the the staff including Susan (their manager)NEVER try to find a solution or say something to make things better. A "sorry" does not fix this BIG mistake. We been in another hotel in the Sequoia National Park and it was a perfect stay, The treatment they give you at these Cabins is definitely NOT the way a guest...
Read moreWe arrived in the early morning to Sequoia and immediately started exploring attractions. After a day of fun and adventure, we made our way to Grant Grove where we checked in at the John Muir Lodge. The lady at the front desk was super helpful in giving us our room key and room number. My kids were delighted to see all the games and snacks the lobby had to offer. They were reluctant to leave but I assured them we had packed plenty of snacks and games for ourselves to play in the cabin. We were staying in the tent cabins so after checking in we drove to the parking lot next to the cabins and started unpacking our car. There were plenty of wagons available so we didn't have to carry all our things by ourselves. We packed two wagons full of stuff and the kids had fun lugging them to our tent cabin while my wife and I pulled a wagon with the massive cooler we brought. The tent cabin itself was pretty nice. Our family is used to tent camping so this was a step-up for us. There were two beds nicely made with 4 pillows to each bed, a dresser, two bedside stands, an open closet along with some hangers, and a safe. The tent cabin itself is pretty nice as well. The whole thing was made out of wood, with no roof of course. There was a canopy type situation being held up by wooden beams. There were two windows on either side of the cabin with curtains. Although it was a little warm at first, we had the windows open, and it ventilated amazingly. We really liked Grant Grove Cabins because it's not like a lodge where your REALLY indoors, here your living in the wilderness. You step outside your cabin and you see sequoia trees all around you. There is also tables outside each of the cabins, which we found very helpful for preparing and eating meals. The shower and bathroom situations were just the topper. The bathrooms were awfully clean and had several mirrors. The showers were amazing! The water heated up so quickly and actually STAYED hot. Everything was perfectly clean too. My son did wake up with several bug bites but no matter where we're staying that always seems to occur. Waking up to the sequoia trees around you and the birds and chipmunks is just magical. On our evening walks we even saw a couple deer. One was right in front of us and my son followed it all the way to the cabins. But overall I loved this experience, my family loved this experience and we would definitely recommend to anyone who...
Read moreThis review is for the Duplex Cabins only:||Pros: Heat! Electricity! Private Bathroom! Flush toilet! Hot Water! Plentiful clean linens! Right in the park within walking distance of the Village. We checked in at the Lodge, where there was free wi-fi, games and puzzles, and free ice. Friendly staff. Cabin room has carpeting, lots of pillows, a luggage rack, closet and personal safe. Small shared deck has a little table and 2 outdoor chairs. All food services that we encountered used compostable containers, and recycling is available at the Lodge.||Cons: The building is really, really old, and most of it is original (doors, windows and knobs). Pretty drafty, so we were glad the heaters worked. The bathroom was in bad shape, with peeling paint, cracked and split linoleum, rust-stained tub and sink; and it felt like perhaps there was dry rot under the floor, as the tub felt like it was tilting. Does not look like it was well-maintained and caulking was obviously done by unskilled person. Also, bring extra blankets if you don't like a heater at night. And note that this is a duplex and the walls are thin - we could hear our neighbors coughing.||The other con (also mentioned by other reviewers) was that it was not very clean. The housekeeping team does not vacuum around the edges of walls and furniture, the dust and cobwebs were quite thick around the ceiling and curtain rods, and because the porch and welcome mat were not swept, we kept tracking in dirt and water from outside (note: don't do yoga on this floor, as it probably is filthy).||We stayed 4 nights, and brought our own tea kettle and Instant Pot. Small 1-cup coffee maker is provided, and if you run out of coffee, you can get more at the Lodge.||Don't expect 5 star accommodations, but this is much nicer than staying (during cold season) in a soft-sided tent cabin with no heat. And being in the center of the park was...
