Th Houmas House Plantation was an amazing place for our anniversary trip. We were there Friday through Monday. We ate at all of the restaurants and the food is 5 star! Our dinner meal at Latils Landing was a culinary experience we will not soon forget. Well worth the cost. We were able to eat in one of the rooms of the Mansion and the ambiance is very Anne Rice! Which we loved. The cafe on grounds has a wonderful breakfast buffet and the staff are so friendly. The gift shop has a very eclectic offering for souvenirs....which we spent plenty on..lol. The Carriage house restaurant had local cuisine that we crave when in Louisiana. The Gumbo and the oyster po boy were some of the best we have had. Again the staff was excellent and so helpful. We stayed on grounds in the king suite with a private porch and two large rocking chairs. We did have to go to the store and buy some yard guard for mosquitos and a small fan but after that is was very comfortable and private from the other bungalows. Our suite was very comfortable and had the decor of the late 19th century. The golf cart boys were great providing a relaxing way to get to dinner after dressing up and Coby gave us a little tour of the property with some of the history. The grounds are impeccable and have gorgeous foliage and fauna with a very extensive bronze statuary collection. There are 500 to 700 yr old live oaks on the property and pictures do not do them justice. The unexpected is the Japanese garden walk and the pet cemetery. Must sees. Last but not least is the Great River Road Museum, all I can say is WOW! I have lived in The South all of my life and I learned so much from the exhibits. We will definitely return here at sometime in the future. The owner Mr. Kelly has done an amazing job in preserving our southern history, the good and the bad, everyone that lives close by should go through this museum. We were sad to leave. Wish we could have stayed a...
Read moreI should have read all the tips! As many others have noted, the rooms fronting the River Road are noisy! The road is only about 30 feet away and with the levy rising immediately on the other side, the sound is amplified. The road is traveled by large trucks so from at least 4:30 AM when I was awakened until 7:30 or 8 AM, it’s pretty constant. Another issue was really, really strong air freshener smell in the room. Had to leave the door open and open the windows for a couple hours to get it tolerable. The decor is a little frou frou for my taste but nice. Comfortable bed and good toiletries. Only a small paper cup for coffee though there were glass goblets and tumblers. This is my new “luxury“ hotel pet peeve. It makes me wonder if they don’t mind giving you glass for the other stuff because they just rinse it in the bathroom sink. Anyway there is cognitive dissonance in this place. Seems like they’re trying to simulate a Southern manor vibe but in that case they should’ve situated these buildings farther back among the trees and away from the road. At the very least, by late afternoon, you could give a complementary upgrade to someone who is already concerned about the noise. When you’re already cranky about your room you don’t want to be told you have to pay another $125 Plus tax for the quiet that should be included with all the...
Read moreWe chose to come for Thanksgiving which we loved at the plantation. The stay overnight was not as great though. We chose a king suite but was under impressed by it. The room was much smaller than expected, had marks on the wall and had the smell of damp mildew. ||We had eaten the Thanksgiving meal at 12:30 which was fantastic however by dinner we were hungry again. When trying to eat on sight we were told that there was no room for us to eat anywhere on property. This was very disappointing because no one at anytime told us that this would be an issue. We would have booked far in advance if we were told that this was needed. Management completely didn’t plan properly and did a poor job at trying to accommodate anything. This is extremely disappointing and ruined our stay at the property. Due to rain we were not able to enjoy the grounds during the stay and while tying to simply get out of the room were told that there were no common areas that we could use to play a game or something. We ended up sitting in the small room during the rain. Overall the stay could have been amazing if proper planning by management was put in place to anticipate and be Sympathetic to guests staying on property during rainy days and holidays when nothing is open...
