Enjoying the second night of our three-night stay, as we’re in town to visit family in the Pittston area.
Check-in was easy. Having never before stayed in a top floor room at a hotel I requested one, and, to my surprise, they were actually able to accommodate the request.
The hotel’s interior decor is clean, modern, and crisp-looking. The elevator is efficient. The complimentary WiFi is fast and reliable.
Breakfast was good—scrambled eggs, sausage patties, a waffle station, toast, bagels, milk, juice, fresh fruit, and (my savior) COFFEE!!!
I haven’t interacted much with staff, but of those I’ve met I’ve found them to be polite. Just purchased a snack and beverage from the front desk and appreciate the conveniences they have available.
There is a shuttle that will take you within a 2-mile radius (basically airport, Dupont, and Avoca).
The restaurant across the parking lot (Tipsy Turtle) is not affiliated with the hotel but has great food in a casual atmosphere. Their “turtle bites” (boneless chicken bites) can be tossed in a variety of sauces and are delicious! Having grown up in the area I’d also recommend Bobby-O’s in Dupont (burgers and shakes) or Colarusso’s in Avoca (pasta and pizza). I’d imagine the shuttle could take you to either restaurant.
The shower’s water pressure is good. We appreciate that this hotel has black-out curtains—we are used to sleeping in a big city with lots of streetlights shining into our bedroom. The room had a TV and mini-fridge. There is also a Keurig with K-cups. The bed and pillows aren’t the most comfortable I’ve experienced, but they’re better than what we have at home.
There is also a nice in-ground outdoor pool that we obviously haven’t been using since it’s December.
This isn’t the Four Seasons or the Ritz-Carlton nor does it profess itself to be; however, when compared to other hotels in the immediate area I think this one is a notch above the rest.
Be advised the adjacent roundabouts can be a bit tricky at first—we ended up back on I-81 instead of Navy Way Road on our first attempt to access the hotel!
We would definitely stay here again the next time we’re in town to...
Read moreHotel has a horrible, I mean HORRIBLE mildew stench that made my stomach churn. I roughed it out and stayed here for a few days back in March, since I really didn't have a choice and ended up with bronchitis and a sinus infection. (which I've never had in my entire life) This place needs to update its carpets and curtains and frankly, maybe knock the entire building down and start over. There was a stain running down the wall, wall peeling up. I have stayed at tons of hotels and if I didn't need to stay here, I wouldn't. Now when we get past the smell and the outdated, atrocious building, the management there obviously has no concern about staff professionalism. The woman at the counter had such unsightly tattoos covering her arm. Most professional companies do not allow this sort of thing. It looks disgusting and gave me a bad vibe about the place. The staff I seen does not seem to care about their appearance and staying here was like being in a third world country. No actually, scratch that, more like I felt I was in the middle of the projects. Other than a couple of the van drivers seemed very kind and friendly. Maybe if they renovated the place and made employees cover their tattoos and not dress and look like slobs, I would stay here again. For a hotel on an airport, they should get a nice Hilton, Marriott or Hyatt property like other airports have and not some shabby Holiday Inn Express. I will NOT stay here again and I recommend you...
Read moreIt is a decent hotel. The rooms are large. If you get a suite, the rooms are very nicely large. The bathrooms are big. We stayed for a total of 4 nights in two separate stays. There were no bathtubs in either room we stayed in. The shower head in the shower was nice and had many different settings. We requested extra towels and linens for the pull out bed couch, and staff seemed happy to provide it. The rooms seemed fairly clean since they recently remodeled.
I would give it a higher rating if the breakfast was a little bit better. The breakfast was slightly depressing. I may have been spoiled by Best Western Pluses in other locations and other hotel brands. If you love sugar this is a breakfast for you. They have oatmeal cups which are available in cinnamon/apple and maple/brown sugar flavors which are both loaded with sugar. They also had little packets of flavored oatmeal full of sugar. They had yogurt with lots of sugar. It would be wonderful if they were able to provide plain oatmeal and plain yogurt to their customers even if they kept it in the backroom and gave out 'at request' only. Other hotels are able to do that.
In short, this is a decent airport hotel with typical continental breakfast. Next time I do business in the area, I would consider looking at other hotels with better breakfasts in the area. However, it is nice how close this hotel is to the...
