Beautiful modern hotel. Very friendly desk staff and room service. Clean rooms and facilitiees. Quality soaps.
Stayed their last year as part of my surprise marriage proposal. The hotel new of my plans and put free chocolate strawberries in the room as a surprise. Nice touch!
Went back this year for another Duke game and to relive the fun of getting engaged.
We stayed in a corner king suite. Spacious room. Bed was comfortable. Pillows sucked (too poofy) but that's normal in hotels.
HVAC unit was extremely loud and had a huge vent opening that blew cold air near the desk (unseasonably warm December night). An improved HVAC opening or unit would be more on par with the overall quality of the hotel.
Chicken sandwich room service was delicious. Ordered 2 eggs for breakfast that were scrambled to order with only egg whites. Promptly delivered by upbeat, friendly servers.
We also ate in the restaurant by the large fireplace. Service is somewhat slow but it's the same solid quality food that's available at room service. We got the hummus. Delicious.
My fiancee took advantage of the small gym. Decent equipment.
EXTREMELY convenient if you're attending any sports event at Duke. They validate parking at a garage that's about 50 yards from the hotel.
Overall vibe is wonderful. I look forward to my next stay at...
Read moreI am actually amending my review for the JB Duke Hotel since I make a mistake in my initial review and said that the hotel charged for parking, which was incorrect and that was my mistake. The Director of the Rooms Division, Laura, was kind enough to call me to make sure that I wasn't charged (which I wasn't) and to go over my bill with me.|So kudos to the JB Duke for excellent customer service and my apologies for misstating their policy - they do not charge any guests for parking.|As for the hotel itself, it is perfectly situated for any Duke sporting event since it is right next to Cameron Indoor Stadium and Wallace Wade, and all of the other fields. The hotel has a nice large lobby with a restaurant/bar, sitting area, couches and several large screen TV's for sports viewing. The food and service are very nice. |The rooms are nicely appointed and quiet, mostly facing out to a wooded area. I had an Executive King and it was comfortable and had a good sized work area. The JB Duke is directly on campus and so you are near everything, which makes it a perfect place in which to stay, no matter what you are doing at Duke. I would recommend the JB Duke as a premier place to stay while...
Read moreNice place but curiously lacking some basic amenities for a four star hotel. Has a refrigerator, but no microwave. No stockpile of plasticware or anything like that, just the mini fridge (empty) and a coffee maker and the usual ice bucket with a couple glasses and some coffee stirrers.
I'm told the fitness room was decent. The restaurant sent food up to the room at our request, which was nice, but there are no options to get food from the hotel that we were aware of after 9:30 pm other than going out to get food or call for delivery from somewhere. Breakfast is pricey, as is pretty much everything on the menu, though the selection was good. I did not see an in-room local restaurant/attraction/shopping guide anywhere.
Very clean, well kept room in general, however, with a nice big screen TV and comfortable sitting chair. Cold air on the floor though, so I sat on the bed or with my feet tucked under me on one of the chairs most of the time for decent room temp overall.
Would stay again for convenience and peace of mind, but it's rather overpriced in all areas for what is...
