If you’re thinking about booking here, DON’T. RUN. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I checked in around 2 AM and instantly regretted it. The room was disgusting, bugs crawling around, stains everywhere, and a horrible smell. I couldn’t even sleep. By 6 AM, I went to the front desk because I just couldn’t take it anymore. That’s when I met Tom, if that’s even his real name. Instead of apologizing or trying to fix the situation, he got defensive and started shouting at me like I was the one bothering him. He acted like it was totally normal and told me, “You’ll have to wait 2–3 days for my manager.” He even walked me to what he called their “non-smoking superior clean room.” And guess what? It was just as nasty. Bugs, dirt, and more excuses. He looked me in the eye and said, “That’s normal — they come from outside.” Unbelievable. I told him I was going to leave a bad review and warned that the hotel could lose a lot of customers. He replied, “I don’t care. I’ve dealt with thousands of customers.” That’s when I realized — this place just doesn’t care. I also contacted the company I booked through (Stay in America). They told me I needed the hotel to approve a cancellation in order to get a refund. Of course, the hotel refused. I even sent an email with photos showing everything, and got completely ignored. The only good part of this experience was a front desk worker named JB. She was kind, respectful, and honestly deserves a much better job. The way she treated me was the only moment of decency in this whole mess. Don’t fall for the cheap price. That’s the trap. You’ll end up in one of the dirtiest rooms imaginable with no help from the hotel or the booking site. I wouldn’t stay here again even if it were free. Sleep in your car if you have to, at least it’ll be cleaner. Avoid this place at all costs. You’ve been warned.

The hotel recently had renovations, so overall the rooms were of good quality. I stayed a week, which gave me enough time to recognize a some changes they could make. The floors in the rooms are a laminate that looks like wood. There is a rug at the entrance to the room, and another that just borders the bed by a foot. The first night when I arrived I took my shoes off and was just wearing socks while I got myself settled. When I finished putting my things away and got on the bed I found that my white socks were, well, no longer white on the bottom. It appears the floors don’t get swiffered/mopped between guests, just swept with a broom I guess. Because I was going to be there for the week I grabbed myself a cheap pair of slippers from Kmart. The other issue I noted was that while the room overall had been renovated, the ceiling tiles in the bathroom were old, and the fan must have been too. That, or the fan just doesn’t get cleaned. After I first used the shower I noticed fuzzy black “ash” pieces on the toilet. It appeared to be mold that had been pushed out of the ceiling fan when I showered. Kind of grossed me out. So improvements they might want to make are: mopping the floors after a guest stays or every week, replacing water stained ceiling tiles in the bathroom, and cleaning the bathroom fans every couple of months. Overall the aforementioned shortcomings/ problems aren’t too bad. So If you’re just passing through I would recommend the hotel. I’d probably stay again myself because, you can’t beat the price, it’s just off the highway, and the gas station next door was cheap!

Children walk and play here. Think about that. The RED ROOF INN on Donaldson hwy has left FECES AKA POOP out on the open steps for over 6 weeks and haven’t cleaned it up. There is absolutely no excuse for this. The automated response that the “owner” is going to reply with is an insufficient response and insincere. There is no excuse for this. This is disgusting, it is a reflection of how the owner of this motel views their residents. People deserve better and to treat your guests with such neglectful contempt is shameful, and frankly, their business license should be revoked and this building should be shut down until it is deep cleaned from top to bottom. How the hell do you justify treating your guests this way? Get off your ass and clean it up. Absolutely revolting and disgusting. WAKE UP. You didn’t start this business to have it look like this so reach down inside and stop being making excuses to yourself as to why it’s ok to have feces out in the open WHERE CHILDREN WALK AND PLAY and clean it up. Is corporate ok with this? Did they sign off on POOP being left on the stairs or is this your idea of a SICK joke? Again, 6+ weeks this has been like this.

The rooms are nice, but the staff are clueless and unwilling to accept responsibility for their errors. When I arrived they didn't have my reservation anymore, because apparently their system automatically drops them at 6pm if the guest has not checked in and paid yet. Nobody informed me of this. Thankfully this wasn't a big deal since they still had my room available. Then I had to stand there and wait while the receptionist called and had someone baby step her through the check in process because it apparently kept giving error messages.

Finally I paid and I thought all was well until I got a call from the hotel manager requesting that I go to the front and pay because I was unpaid and could not be checked in. I informed him that I had paid, and he asked for some of my credit card information, and I became uncomfortable giving it to him since I knew I had paid and signed already. He told me to just come to the front desk. I looked online and saw a pending charge from the hotel, so I came up front with my computer in hand and had to stand in line and wait just to prove to him that I had already paid.

He then grew irate and defensive, practically shouting at me that it was just an authorization and not an actual charge, and that if I didn't want to give him my credit card information I was welcome to leave. To me a pending charge is a pending charge; one that was just made and so hasn't posted to the account yet. Not wanting to get thrown out of the hotel room that I already paid for, I went ahead and gave him my credit card again hoping that he knew what he was doing and was honest. If I see two charges for my hotel room or a charge for a new TV or something I guess I'll know it was the wrong call.

I will not be going back to this location again. In spite of all the stress and trouble the staff put me to I could barely even wrangle an apology out of him. I finally flat out said that I had not even had an apology for all of that, and he angrily and grudgingly provided one, followed by more excuses and shrugging it off as something that just 'happens from time to time'. Never have I had anything like that happen at ANY hotel I have stayed at. If my system at work messed up and caused that much stress and anxiety to a customer I would be apologizing profusely and doing my best to put them at ease, because that is good customer service.

Also, the water for the shower was tepid/borderline cold. Don't expect a nice warm shower or bath to melt away all that stress. Also, don't expect a warm meal in the morning. It said online that they have free breakfast including waffles, but that is not the case at this location. When I asked about breakfast, I was informed that I could have all the coffee I want. Guess I could...

Unfortunately, the recent one-night stay my boyfriend and I had at this particular motel resulted in a myriad of problems, further complicated by the shockingly rude and insulting behavior of the front desk staff. Please bear with me here ...

When checking in after booking the room via telephone only hours prior, we were informed by the sole individual working at the front desk (despite a high volume of guests waiting patiently) that the room would cost $30 more than the originally advertised $60 due to the fact that they were "nearly at capacity." When we asked if the manager could explain this to us, we were informed that he was "at a carnival," which makes a lot of sense on a very busy Friday night. We bit the bullet and my boyfriend paid in full. I should also mention that, despite my boyfriend paying, I was forced to provide my own driver's license for no explicable reason, which, as a minority, drew the attention of other guests in line and caused undue embarrassment.

The stay itself was adequate: the room was clean with fresh towels and bedding; all of the appliances appeared to be in working order; the wifi and cable television functioned; and the heating and cooling wall unit operated about as well as it could.

Two days after checking out, without any notice whatsoever, we discover that an additional $150 had been charged to my boyfriend's credit card. We called the motel directly to inquire as to how we could have possibly been charged a fee for incidentals when we are both neat freaks and actually tidied up the room before departing.

  • This next part is the kind of thing you just can't make up ... Rude and belligerent from the get-go, the front desk staff member who answered the phone informed us that we had left a can of Mountain Dew lodged in the toilet bowl and they had to call a plumber to get it out. This insinuation is so absurd on its own that it probably doesn't even bear mentioning that neither of us drink soda/pop. Before abruptly hanging up on us, he refused to provide his name or the name of his manager who he said was "not in today." I guess he's still at the carnival.

So, all that said, we have filed a complaint with corporate and are disputing the charges. I will update this review once the situation is...

We reserved two rooms and they didnt have our second room reserved so we were trying to get a second room and the lady said they were sold out for non smoking and we just needed a room and the lady at the front desk was very rude she wouldn't let us get a room for the price we should have originally had and she tried raising the price and then said they had a smoking room for more and we asked to speak to a manager. She then called him on the phone and spoke in a different language and told us the manager said that the price was higher because it's the weekend even though our other room was fine... so we asked to speak to him again. And she told us he was in a very important meeting . We waited and I asked her how long and she told me he is in a meeting. While I was waiting I heard a bunch of staff which I later found out that the manager was one of them talking about coffee and tea and nothing that should be more important then a customer whose been waiting for the manager to get out of his important meeting so that my family and I can rest after driving 13 hours and then I left to inform my family that was waiting in the parking lot that it was going to be a while. When i walked back in the manager was talking to the lady and all the staff had moved to the reception area. We were about to leave to go to another hotel when my husband was finally able to talk to the manager and the lady and she began to change her story and said that there were no more rooms including smoking available. Then the nice manager was able to find a smoking room available five secondsun later but the rooms were dirty. Particularly the smoking room, the bathroom looked like someone peed on the wall right in front of the toilet, the towels had dirt on them and the sheets had a few stains. No bugs, floors looked clean. The ironing board is a piece of metal with no padding. They are not up to red roof inn standards. I wont be...
