I will start with the pros: the cabin was thoroughly clean when we arrived, which was a plus. The layout was perfect for a family of four, with one king bed upstairs and one downstairs, two bathrooms, and plenty of space. The furnishings were modern and completely functional, and there were board games in the living room which was a nice extra. The kitchen was fully operational and you could seriously cook for your entire stay if you needed, which considering the hit or miss quality of food in Estes, you might want to consider. The location was great in terms of being close enough to grocery stores and restaurants while only needing 10 mins or so to drive to RMNP, and the cabins were directly across from the lake, which was nice. The property had every amenity that we needed, including bathroom/kitchen supplies and toiletries, and there were extra towels in the linen closet. We did not use the washer and dryer, so no comments there, but I am sure they would have worked in a pinch. Beds were comfortable and I did not notice any sort of plastic on the mattress as mentioned by a previous reviewer, not sure what that was about. We had two decks, one larger off of the kitchen and a smaller off the upstairs bedroom. TVs located in every bedroom and in the living room with cable, also wifi. I did have two preteen boys who complained that the wifi was not very good, but they were trying to use multiple gaming devices simultaneously at night, so I wouldn't necessarily say the wifi was weak, just normal perhaps. As for the cons, there was no A/C, and given that it was a crazy hot weekend in Estes, the cabin did become stuffy from 4 to 8 pm each day. Not terrible, but we did notice. We used the attic fan once the sun went down, and it's doable, but if you are extremely sensitive to heat, this might not work for you. The other issue we had was our cabin's specific location in the complex. We were concerned that we would be facing the road and the high school parking lot, and that was (kind of) the case. We did have a view of the mountains, but the high school and buses are a part of that view, so it's not perfect (perhaps nothing is, really). We did not see any wildlife nearby, which was disappointing for our kiddos. I think it was also an extremely busy weekend in town which made the animals shy away, but I feel like being so close to the road made it less likely that we would get the random elk or deer visit as others have mentioned. Lastly, and this is a minor quibble, the owners may want to consider replacing the dishwasher, as it seems to be at the end of its life cycle, and we would have preferred a fridge that dispensed filtered water (though it did have an ice maker). All of the applicances worked though, which is more than I can say for a lot of other rentals out there! Overall, we were really pleased with the cabin and would recommend, especially for those who need more space than a traditional hotel room...
Read moreThis was an amazing cabin…the cabin was clean, cozy and decorated tastefully. The amenities for the kitchen was wonderful having all the utensils and cookware available. We enjoyed grilling and enjoying a meal on the beautiful deck. It’s location is just on the outside edge of Estes park and getting to it using main roads made it quicker getting to and from places by avoiding in town stop lights etc. the beds were comfortable and if you have a significant other that snores and it’s just you and your significant other staying you can kick them out to the other king bedroom 😉😂 the management at the front desk was wonderful. We drove straight through the night from our home town just south of Lincoln Nebraska for a friends wedding and hadn’t had a place to stay booked before leaving because we were unsure if we would be traveling to the wedding after a death in the family and just about everywhere was booked for the dates we needed. We left a message after hours and the a wonderful woman named Kay I believe called us the moment the office opened and to our relief was able to book us in and check us in two hours earlier than expected which was a great relief since we were exhausted from traveling! The other cabins are close in proximity BUT the way they situated them your deck views still give you a stunning view that the cabins actually make a nice addition to the view bc they’re well kept and beautifully built! You don’t even mind the neighbors b/c it’s so quiet and parking is ample! If we make the trip back to Estes Park I would be more than happy to stay again! Also the management was so informative about giving you the best information on things to do and informed us that you need time reservations to enter Rocky Mountain national park and to do so online and which passes were the best to get. Had she not told us that we wouldn’t have been able to enter the park for our friends wedding! And when there was anything wrong with our cabin they were more than helpful! The light bulb in our refrigerator was burnt out and she got us a new one as soon as she could! We left notes about other things like a burnt out sconce light on the ceiling (there are several of the sconce lights so one out of 4 being burnt out wasn’t an issue for us at all but we just wanted to leave as much info we could for them so they could fix it for the next guest ❤️) just overall a wonderful management staff, beautiful, clean, comfortable place to stay! Be sure to sign the guest books in each cabin! And check out the binder in the cabins with useful tidbits about everything from wildlife, park rules, cabin rules, check out process etc. It even gave info on cooking tips since cooking is different at higher elevations! Just overall WONDERFUL! Thank you for such a great...
Read moreWe recently hosted a family reunion at Solitude. Due to the nature of a big family event we had some shifting of attendees and therefore number of needed cabins. Ultimately we didn't need a couple of the cabins we had reserved. Some of the deposit money from the cabins we let go of was refunded and some of it applied to the cabins we were keeping. Although the cabins were all being paid with one credit card, each cabins' charge and refund was charged to the credit card company separately. This created some confusion for me as to what had been paid, and what was still owed. I called and spoke with Kay three weeks before our arrival to make sure I understood the charges and exactly what we still owed. I found doing this with Kay to be quite challenging although we did come up with a number that we both agreed was correct.
Unfortunately, during our stay when I went it to sign the credit card receipts they did not add up to the agreed amount. In fact they were significantly more! Frustrating!
Kay pulled me out of our main family event to discuss the payment issue with her. We had rented their pavilion, so I was onsite. During this discussion I was scolded for being angry that the bill was not what we had agreed upon, Kay made a very big fuss because I had discarded the credit card slips I was contesting, she insinuated that I was lying to her about the whereabouts of another family member, in addition to being generally condescending. As you might imagine this interaction with Kay put a huge damper on the family event for myself and a number of my family members.
On Kay's notes from the day of our conversation three weeks earlier, she had the amount we had agreed upon circled with the word DUE next to it. Yet, she was unable to explain why she was charging us more. I had to figure that out on my own after I had returned home and had access to the credit card statements. What I didn't know and what Kay had been unable to explain to me was that Kay had refunded some of the deposit money a few days after our conversation effectively negating the agreed upon amount due on arrival.
There are great places to stay in Estes where agreements are kept, you are treated with respect and their accounting staff can have an intelligent conversation with you about your bill. I would suggest you look elsewhere for your...
