I only stay in Holiday Inns as you have large spacious and comfortable rooms. The breakfast is also a good perk. I was very disappointed in the way that the one in Exmore is run. We stayed over the Easter holiday weekend, and I understand that spring break can be a busy time, however, I only ever saw one person on the front desk, and it was the same person for all the days that we stayed. Several times I went to the front desk and there wasn't anyone there, and had to wait awhile until someone came.
The first night we were there my grandchildren were anxious to go into the pool. The water was actually pretty warm. It started to get dark and there were no lights on. We thought maybe they were on a timer. It was getting darker and darker outside and we were thinking of getting out when the person who had checked us in finally came in and turned on the lights. That was the last time the pool was warm, the remainder of the time the water was freezing cold. The next day I was in the pool with my son and two small grandchildren and the water was like ice water, no heat at all. My son happened to notice that there was one of the pool lights floating in the water with the wires exposed. We have a pool so know that pools have ground fault interrupters which will kick the breaker as soon as there is a problem. So when the light came out, the breaker kicked and the heater also stopped. I made everyone get out of the pool and went to the front desk and reported it. They looked at me like I was crazy. We all went back to our rooms and then out. When we came back, was about an hour later, people were back in the pool. I went down the next morning to see if it was fixed and it was, however the water was still cold. I feel that management was not checking or having someone check the pool area thoroughly.
The breakfast area was a disaster. There was very little fresh fruit on Friday, and none on Saturday and Sunday. The hotel was very busy on Saturday and Sunday. There was only one person working the breakfast, and they were not able to keep up with the amount of people coming down to eat, even though they tried. Here again I feel that management should have been checking regularly on this.
In the other Holiday Inns where I have stayed, there seemed to be more of a management presence, which kept things running smoothly. I did not see that at this hotel. Truthfully, I only ever saw one person, and wasn't sure if she was the manger or not. I will not stay at the Holiday Inn Express again. I stayed at the Pocomoke Holiday Inn express the month before and it was excellent. I will always stay there now when we visit family even though it is farther from there to...
Read moreI was on a short road trip with my 2 children and my dog. I got sleepy, so we agreed that for safety we would just get a hotel room. I am a nurse traveler, and I have stayed in Holiday Inn's across the U.S. I am a gold member. I used my last points to pay for the room. The front desk woman was very nice, and funny. I asked to use the side door, because my dog is big and it's just easier to avoid crowds. The side entrace didn't work, unless you "propped it open" with a piece of wood. After we got into the room, we all showered. The bathroom, good lord, it was dirty. The bath mat in the tub was rolling up, and had black matter under it. The toilet bowl had rust stains. Once we had showered, we tried to watch tv but it needed an HDMI CORD. The front desk lady brought one and fixed it right up. Around midnight the dog finally settled down from strange surroundings and we all tried to sleep. That's when the air conditioning unit began making strange humming noises. LOUD humming noises. The noise would come on for a few minutes, then cut off. I'd think to myself, "Now maybe I'll sleep", and here it'd start AGAIN!! I was just too exhausted to have to change rooms, pack up, settle the dog again. So I was literally up and down ALL NIGHT. At 10 a.m. I finally made myself crawl out of bed. I called the front desk, and asked for a late check out, due to the fact that my poor kids and I were up all night. She (and it was not the same woman from the day before) acted like I was begging for a free night!! I reported the air unit problem, so that the next unsuspecting customer wouldn't suffer. She stated "Oh,I'll tell someone"... NO apology, no offer for my points refunded, not even half! It was supposed to be a night of good rest, so I could safely finish my drive. But instead, I felt even worse that morning, AND was out my points, plus the pet deposit. I might just be done visiting Holiday Inn's. We also missed the hotel's wonderful breakfast that I had promised the kids. Highly disappointed. A remodel needs to be done, or at least remove those...
Read moreThis was our first stay at this location on the Eastern Shore. We have passed by it many times on our way to Atlantic City NJ. Every time we passed it on our travels, we saw the progress of the building from the ground, up to the finished building. We decided to spend a couple of days looking around this area and of course being a IHG Rewards Club member, this property was our first choice.
The building itself is standard Holiday Inn Express issue, so everything seemed vary familiar and we both like that concept very much.
The exterior of the property is of course beautiful. Great visibility from the highway, but set back far enough where road noise is not a issue. The grounds are keep up perfectly and has great curb appeal.
Check-In was fast and easy. Parking was convenient, right in the front. The staff was friendly and was very helpful by suggesting a great place for dinner. The restaurant gave us a 10% discount for being a guest, this was a pleasant surprise.
The room we were assigned was large, clean and spacious.
The bathroom floor needed some TLC...the tile grout looked dirty and there was a build-up behind the bathroom door that need to be cleaned.
Two other minor issues:
#1-the desk lamp would not work, it was plugged in, it just didn't work.
#2 the cover with the filter on the HVAC unit, was just laying on the floor, so the unit was running with no filter. I tried to put it back in place, but it would not stay.
This just shows that housekeeping is lacking in respect to making sure everything is working and in it's proper place.
The room rates at this property are very reasonable.
I am sure we will return to this location often when we are at the...
