This was the absolute best hotel experience I've had ever. We came to stay here by accident. When I called at 11pm that evening, the family and I were exhausted. Biggest plus is that this hotel allowed dogs (ofcourse with a pet fee). The 2 women on the phone that worked overnight were the most patient individuals. Also knowing and seeing that I wasn't the only one checking in or evening getting into their rooms. (This hotel was seriously bumping that evening.) When we got to the hotel room, we were AMAZED at the condition of the space. It was SPARKLY clean. Shower pressure was EXCELLENT. The hygiene bottles were the cutest things. We had the best overnight sleep and totally beat having to slum it at the campground we were supposed to be at.
When we woke up the next morning the breakfast area was good! I want to say it does need to replace that little pancake maker thing, but the choices were better than we even thought! I was so exhausted the night before I didn't even know the hotel provided the breakfast and coffee. A big relief for me. The family was excited to wake up and find breakfast and cool entertainment with checkers, building blocks, pool, corn hole, television, cute egg swing chairs, an outdoor seating area, a pool, gym, laundry room, etc. We literally felt at home here within the overnight stay up until the checkout time.
The WHOLE TEAM including Ms. JO are tip notch and should all be recognized. I wish I knew ALL of their names to thank them all (from the cleaners who maintained a beautiful room for the family to the front desk and to the designers who thought of how to keep a family entertained) because they all worked together to make this experience so much less stressful for a hungry and exhausted mom. Never had I felt so taken care of in a hotel before. This will MOST DEFINITELY be the hotel I will be going to again when I come back to Farmville. (I'm sure a really good place to stay for Heart of Virginia Festival coming up in September that Ms. JO mentioned during our talk.) 100 out of 10 recommend staying in this hotel! Don't miss out on this experience. Thanks Tru team!!!
Ms. Jo has a beautiful soul and a wonderful welcoming heart. She reminded me of my mom - easy to talk to with a very warm smile!
The overnight team on Aug 11 and morning shift until check out time were all so amazing I need to recognize them all (I only was able to take time to actually speak with Ms. Jo, but with the limited time I had with the greeters last night, they were very patient and kind and the cleaners who maintain the building do a phenomenal job keeping the place in top...
Read moreOverall it was fairly decent given the scaled down expectations in contrast with the typical Hampton Inn we are more familiar with. It was clean and neat overall, and a bit cheaper than Hampton Inns, also "by Hilton". Tru seems to be a new downscale version of the typical Hampton by Hilton. It takes the approach of keeping the core essentials while scaling back on the room "luxuries" such as square footage, closet, desk, and carpeting. Watch out not to stub your toes getting around the bed!. It does seem to attempt some compensation in having a spacious commons space in the lobby area with features like "pods" (?) for cozy little individual work spaces, and (I believe) some small group workspaces(?), along with a pool table for "recreation". Also, the food and drink offerings (outside of breakfast) have many more choices, including some common beers. More specific annoyances: The hardness of the room flooring on our old feet. [update: suggesting carpet runners for a bit if relief without full carpeting expense?] The TV would not allow viewing until its "clock" was set for local time - too much trouble to bother with late at night. No secure wifi (as usual with Hampton, so no surprise), so used our phone data instead. Chair was not very comfortable, nor adjustable. [Update: wife liked it, just not a good fit for me I guess] Room AC/heat "control" was difficult to set accurately (if even possible?). Breakfast was definitely a step down from usual Hampton fare (only 1 flavor of yogurt, no pastries or nuts, or much of a selection for jelly/jam/honey to put on toast), but OJ was excellent. [update: it was adequate with "Hearty" oatmeal (would have liked bigger actual bowls such as Hampton has so I could have eaten the high protein instant oatmeal I brought along; a few cold cereal options (child-centric?); filling warm sausage and scrambled egg patties]
Also, not a fan of loading yet another app on my phone to "take advantage" of all the Hilton services, but I gave it a go. However, the supposed "feature" of using it to check in and pick our room seemed to come and go while I was driving there, so missed out. I deleted it after we left.
[What does the "Rooms 4" mean, Google? Only had 1...
Read moreIt is VERY RARE that I leave a negative review for anywhere, however this warrants it. For $173 for one night and no sleep ... we aren't happy.
We were assigned room 418, which is immediately across the elevator access. No big deal. We didn't even care until we heard every single ding and button push throughout the night. The door seemed as though it was as thin as a curtain. Yet, a nearby room door would open/close and it would make me jump thinking it was OUR ROOM door.
We first checked into the room. Very clean but quite warm. It was 77 degrees in there so we immediately lowered the air conditioner seeing as how it is a hot mid June day.
Shortly after arriving we left to drive through town and find a place to eat dinner. When we returned the room was back up to 76 degrees. Annoying but whatever.
Throughout the entire night the AC would reset. Every single hour one of us would wake up very hot and turn the AC back down. Each time the room read anywhere between 74 and 77 degrees. We would lower to 68. It would cool down quickly, shut off and never go back on again until we woke up to force it.
When trying to fall back asleep one can't help but also get quite bothered by the THREE BRIGHT blinking lights in the room. Two green and one red. Nothing you do but watch them blink every 3-5 seconds in opposite corners of the room.
Between the temperature war, noise, lights ... it was by far the WORST night's sleep I have had since I had newborns.
I stay in hotels about 15+ times a year from 1-8 nights each time and I have stayed at a Tru by Hilton a few times before. However, after this experience I will NEVER risk this bad of a night's sleep again.
Wasn't worth $50 for the night, especially not the $173 they charged for a single Saturday night. Should have stayed the very decent competitor hotel down the...
