Butterfield Inn was a gem!
Possibly the cleanest hotel room in all of west Texas, our cottage was a definite highlight on our week-long trip to Fort Davis. We made our selection based on numerous good reviews, and I am so happy we did. Front desk receptionist, was kind and cheerful over the phone and helped us to find just the room we needed. Upon arriving, Maggie politely checked us in and helped us to our room, which was sparkling and remarkably comfortable. The mattress was comfortable and the sheets were so soft we had to ask where we could buy our own. The room had everything we needed during our extended stay. Dish network, wi-fi, mini fridge, microwave, a great coffee maker that either makes a whole pot or a single serving. We even had our own in room ice maker!, Our mornings were spent with hot coffee in the courtyard, kept beautiful by Sherry - the colorful gardener who will not easily be forgotten. There is plenty of outdoor seating, a couple of outdoor games for the kids, a watering station for the puppy, and even a propane grill for guests to use. Jennifer, the owner, spent some time giving us some insider secrets on where to eat and hang out like a local. Turns out most people use Fort Davis as a hub to daytrip to neighboring towns like Marfa, Balmorhea, and Terlingua. Originally we had only planned to stay for two nights, but quickly asked to extend once we figured out just exactly what there was to do in the surrounding area. It was a little bit of a drive but it was worth it to come "home" to Butterfield every night. One night, it rained, and the desert cooled off so much that we were able to light a fire in the fireplace. So unexpectedly cozy. And the stars? Bedazzling. On our way out, we stopped in to the gift shop to pick up a couple of souvenir shirts with original artwork designed by Jennifer, and Brenda, the gift shop clerk, smiled and laughed with us the whole time. The entire experience at Butterfield Inn was pleasant from start to finish and we will definitely be back. Might even become a family tradition. If you're ever passing through Fort Davis, or if you plan a trip out that way, seriously consider Butterfield Inn. It will easily become one of your...
Read moreWe stayed at the Butterfield Inn in early June and had an outstanding experience. We were in Unit 3, which couldn’t have been cuter or cleaner. It had a beautiful fireplace (yes, we used it!) and was incredibly accommodating for our two large Labradors. The entire property is peaceful, well-kept, and clearly run with care.||The hospitality here goes above and beyond. I accidentally left my credit card behind, and the owner personally brought it to us after we had already left town—unbelievable kindness. When we got a flat tire shortly after, she even helped us find someone to get it fixed quickly. Truly some of the nicest people we’ve ever encountered while traveling.||The new gift shop is adorable—I absolutely loved it. It’s filled with local treasures, and I especially enjoyed the Texas Hummingbird book I purchased. It’s a great stop for thoughtful souvenirs or just something special to take home.||If you’re heading through Fort Davis—especially with dogs—do not miss this place. It’s a true gem that combines small-town charm with five-star service.||Let me know if you...
Read moreI stayed in the adorable, well decorated cottage 2 at the Butterfield Inn in Ft. Davis, TX. Check-in instructions were clear and the parking was right in front of the entrance gate. Welcoming courtyard and great outdoor space. The bed was comfortable and the location quiet. Quiet because there isn't much around in terms of restaurants or shops. The reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars were simple maintenance and hospitality details. Easily fixed, but overlooked. The first being the basket for coffee, etc was empty. The coffee maker and mugs do me little good with no coffee. (I saw in photos on the website that the basket should have coffee packets, etc.) The second being the soap and shampoo in the shower. The shampoo pump was totally broken off and missing and the body wash was so low, none would come out. These are simple details that could've made my stay 5 stars. I appreciate the details in decor I know work went into it, but those simple issues either show a lack of caring or were simply overlooked and either way, for the price paid, it was...
