The KOA its self was nice. We stayed in a tent. The location of tent camping was ok but your neighbors tent was only ten feet away. The light on the power box is like a spot light in your tent after dark. The younger staff that work in the afternoon were very nice. Everything was good until quite hours hit 10PM. The Campers next to us were so close we could hear everything they said and did. After asking them to keep it down they continued to be loud. When I called the after hours number for service (which is the owner’s number) to report them. The owner told me he come to the camp and take care of the issue. This was at 11PM. I waited till midnight and called again. He told me he was driving from the springs and going through Pueblo (Pueblo is only 25 minutes away) and would be there soon to take care of it. I waited again till 12:45 in the morning and called again. Then he told me he had to stop at the gas station. When I called him a liar he finally just called the police to come to tell the camper to be quit. The police came around 1AM. The whole time we waited my family (I have kids under 11) had to listen to the camper being loud, causing, shining flash light everywhere, getting in and out of their vehicle, and making noises. The next morning when the office opened at 8AM I went to the office and asked for my money back and canceled the rest of my stay. The office lady was very inhospitable and unaccommodating (putting it nicely) acting like it was our issue and it was putting her out to do some thing about it (just like the owner) and they did not care. Stating we stayed the night so had to pay and would not give me my money back. Even after calling the owner (that never showed up) to check or claims of the issues. I guess they wanted me to pack up my family and our camp site in the middle of the night and just leave. So if you’re looking for a tent location to camp with a family that has morals do not stay here. If you want to do what you want and stay up all night and no one to tell you not to. Then it’s perfect for you. There is no staff there after 8PM and no one that works there will care what happens to you. I will never stay there or...
Read moreRead moreWe came and stayed at this KOA for 9 days using as a base camp for side excursions. I would give it 4.5 stars but for one issue, i'll mention later. Overall it is an excellent facility, well maintained with friendly and helpful staff. It is well worth a stay and is reasonably close to various attractions. It has a small number of what appear to be full-time residents, as many facilities have, but they are pretty much confined to one lane and are pretty much indistinguisable from other campers. Store is adequately stocked, there is a group meeting/use building and a small, but nice pool. It's billed as a "Holiday" camp and i think that might be a bit of a stretch, but that did not detract from the overall impression. There are two nearby diesel and gas stations (0.5 miles) and a really nice BBQ joint, Obies Filling Station (a converted gas station motif that really worked) with great food at reasonable prices. The staff puts a lot of effort into a good appearance and have some of the nicer cabins (exterior and location) that we've seen at a KOA. They were installing new gas BBQ's at all cabins that i could see. USER ALERT: This camp has some of the BEST WiFI i've seen so far! Good enough to stream video (didn't try HD) and do big up/downloads. Great reception, strong signal and for me, great up/d'load speeds. There is tent camping but less that most KOA's i think and they were less segregated from the RV's i saw. My only quibble is that they seem to have an area where they allow LIMITED storage of RV's and other trailer type rigs (about 6 while we were there). Not a problem in itself, but the choice of location was awful, in that it blocked one of the major attractions of the facility...that being the Southern view, which i've shown and we spent a lot of time just...sitting, watching the changing Colorado...
This review is based on the average of our last two stays - one last week and the other the week before. For both stays (as well as all of our previous stays), the staff were all friendly, helpful and professional. We love the location and the grounds and have stayed here more than a half-dozen times.
The first stay was phenomenal. We stayed in camping cabin #5. It was clean and in good repair with a great porch swing as well as a screen door so we could get good airflow. The cabin faces west, so there is a great sunset view as well as good airflow. It is located close to the social hall, which has very nice accessible bathrooms.
For the second visit, we stayed in camping cabin #2, and I would have to say this was our least favorite camping cabin of the dozens we have stayed in all across the country. There is no porch swing, and the bench that is there is small and uncomfortable. There is no screen door, and the cabin faces north, so it does not benefit from the cooling breeze in the evening. It is located across the road from the playground. While that was not obnoxious, it did not lend itself to the quiet, peaceful experience we seek. While the mattress was thick, it was fitted in so tightly that making the bed was a huge struggle. The bed felt very short, probably because the wood at the foot of the bed stuck up so far. It was challenging to get comfortable. The cabin is only about 4 feet from the cabin next door, so it felt quite crowded. The air conditioning worked well. However, it is placed behind the door and under the one peg available for hanging clothing or bags. Naturally, we did not use the peg. The bathrooms in the front building are rather small, as are the showers.
Will we stay here again? Absolutely! However, if the only cabins available are #1 & #2, we will...
