I'm surprised there are so many negative reviews here whereas we LOVED the Lodge at Bryce Canyon. I have stayed at several hotels inside western national parks (Sequoia, Grand Canyon), and I have been very pleased with each. Perhaps I am just so glad to be in the park itself that I overlook things that may bother others, but I sincerely loved the Lodge and have very little that's critical to say about it.||We didn't plan our trip until a couple of months before we left, and accommodations inside a park are often hard to get. I wasn't able to reserve at the lodge in Zion National Park, so I was thrilled to get two nights at Bryce. First I must say that, of the five national parks in Utah, both my husband and I liked Bryce the most. There was just something about the peaceful pine forest and beautiful vistas that appealed to us, so to be able to spend all of our time in the park itself and not have to leave at all was a plus. When we first drove up, we instantly loved the architecture of the Lodge. Our check-in was a bit slow but nothing too extreme. Sometimes when traveling, we must be patient, and a little bit of kindness never hurt anyone. One of the staff members checking in guests seemed new and unfamiliar with the computer system, so he kept having to get help from the only other staff member at the desk. She had her hands full with a large party that didn't speak the best English, so the two of them were doing their best. Check-in was seamless if slow, and we were glad to get to our room after a long day of driving right in the middle of a two week road trip. ||The room itself was very large, furnished in rustic style, and reminded us of the Lodge at Sequoia National Park. The bathroom had a heat lamp, which was great as it was really cold (lows in the teens at night) while we were there. The bed was comfy as was the furniture, and the room had all the amenities we needed (fridge, microwave, coffee pot, hair dryer, etc.) There were only two minor issues with the room. The first was the sink drain was a bit slow. The other was that our porch had a pile of snow over three feet high on it, so it was completely unusable. The roof of the building slopes in a few areas for snow to fall off, but it falls right onto the porches of two of the rooms on each side of the building, and ours was one. Now, it was so cold while we were there I doubt we would have used it, so I didn't fret. But I was a bit disappointed that we didn't end up in one of the rooms with snow-free porches.||We stayed two nights, enjoyed the restaurant for two meals, and picked up food in the general store for breakfast that we ate in the room (pastries, milk, instant oatmeal). We really liked that there is a multi-use path in the park that allows you to walk (or bike) around the rim of the canyon and goes to all of the buildings as well. It was a convenient walk to the restaurant, gift shop, and the canyon itself. As I said before, Bryce Canyon was our favorite place on a two week trip out west where we visited a total of six national parks, and we were truly sad to leave. The hotel was clean, comfortable, quiet, and had a location that was impossible to beat. If we ever get the opportunity, we would want to stay here again, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting...
Read moreThis is purely a winter evaluation... It is no fault to the hotel or the lodge regarding the conditions.. With that said:
Check in: The check is is done through a vacant room.. It was hard to find with the snow at night however, we did locate it with a little help from a phone call to the desk.
The young lady that checked us in was extremely nice and friendly. She was very helpful with information regarding things to do with the extreme weather they experienced. For this reason the review gets 3 stars! If it wasn't for the below info I would have given this a higher star rating.
(again no fault of the lodge a large winter storm came and dumped 3 feet of snow)
Rooms: 2 stars -- Remember this is $131 a night which is expensive for winter rates- The rooms are outdated but clean.. This may be to keep the old style alive. Beds were comfortable and the pillows we actually very nice. (for us older folk 50 and over pillows are very important lol) Bathroom fan was extremely noisy and sounded like a dang airplane lol.
We arrived at 6pm.. so not much to do so we decided to watch some TV for the night... NO Tv in the rooms... No worry they have wifi so logged on to my dish to watch some shows... WIFI was very spotty and not suitable to stream.. REMEMBER we are in here in the winter so almost everything is closed. So this was pretty much our only option... Well unless we wanted to suit up and walk in 7 degrees in the dark in an area we had no clue about lol. This is what lowers the level of this resort..
In the morning there was piping hot fresh coffee!! OK that is 5 frikn stars right there...
WE decided to sleep early to leave early so we can explore Bryce Canyons views.. I am sure this place is super cool.. I really just wanted to rate the hotel..
Things that can help:
CLEAR winter markings to show where check in is!
Updated rooms with better accommodations.. If your charging $250 a night you can update the rooms to the 1990's at least..
Find a way to keep your employee at the front desk... again she is why you got a decent rating from me. Otherwise very low on the winter escape rating!
Hope this helps others with their choice... call the hotel and ask conditions before you make the trip.. They are VERY helpful so you wont be...
Read moreMy room was excellent. I stayed in 307, and you literally walked out the door and walked down a dirt path, which was less than a quarter mile to the rim. When I read the reviews on the room, I anticipated no air conditioning. As well as new TV. However, checking in, I felt very unwelcomed by the young white lady she had shorter blondish hair, maybe to her shoulders. There are two older gentlemen helping other guests, and I took note of how good their customer service was. As a young lady finished with the customer I looked in her Direction and she stared right at me turned around grabbed her water bottle took turn back around took a couple drinks as she was staring at me standing there. After she was finished hydrating herself, she turned back around, setting it down, then stared back at me with no acknowledgment of calling me to the counter. I then walk up to the counter, I let her know I'm here to be checked in and give her my full name. She was very fidgety and all over the place. She then asked me the name again, and I repeated it to her, even spelling it out ... she then asked me for ID, and then I had to show her my confirmation from Expedia . She tried to explain it to me that it didn't show last name, which is very confusing because it's hard to make a reservation without a last name . Coming from a family of nurse practitioners, I figured she had a little type of ADHD. Then she asked me how I would be paying it, and I said credit card. She then asked what kind of car it was, and I explained it to American Express. Stihl fidgeting back and forth as if she was irritated to help me. I've never had so much trouble checking in and asking so many questions. Bryce Canyon Lodge was very amazing. I just didn't like the checking in process. I felt unwelcome. I guess when you're paying roughly $2,000 for a cab and you would expect a little more decency. I checked in on the 19th, and it was roughly around 3:00 p.m. so if the company cares to even check who is on duty. I've just given you the date and time. I suggest when checking in check in with the older gentleman. They seem to be...
